It is clear from this ad that this computer was so far ahead of its time that the average person probably had no clue what was going on. People just weren't "there" yet. It is almost like the machine was too good for the era. Really, it was that brilliant.
Where are the Commodores of today? PC and Macs sucked like shit back then. What would we have today if that suck-cool ratio was the same???? I even have a 80`s slogan ready. "With commodore 64, the future is next door"
So far ahead of its time. I loved these machines. I feel so old. I still remember walking into the mall and being blown away by the power and abilities of this computer. Years before the PC industry could even visualize the potential of PC's. The fact that it was used so heavily in TV and motion pictures is testimony to that.
I've still got my miggy 500+ and it still provides tons of fun! Not bad for a 20 year old computer. I really wish Commodore had not gone bust. The computer business can be so cruel at times :(
LOL!!, no I am afraid not, it will however run Syndicate, Elite, Project X and UFO Enemy Unknown or UFO Defence (as it was also known for you American miggy fans out there) ;)
Where did C= "hide" this kind of promo? It's a bit controversial to watch this now, knowing that the revolution AMIGA could have brought in business productivity (MANY,MANY years before the "abominable" pc's :-) ) was never adopted by society, and AMIGA was mainly treated as a "GAME" machine. If C= could only invest a little bit in the right advertisement, maybe today no one would know words like "Microsoft"or "windows". Too bad for the world, that possibility never happened :-(
Half the problem with Amiga's failure lies on Microsoft themselves. They were so scared of this machine beating the PC's who they have contracted with to use Windows and DOS that they bribed business users to use PC's only. The business market runs the computer industry so hence why it failed.
Man, all this stuff sounds so fancy, and all the Amiga 500 was ever used for was gaming, gaming and utter gaming, and how we all loved it, and still do! :oD
Yes, the Amiga was a fantastic machine in its day, but that day has now long past gone! I had 5 Amiga conputers back in the 90's and I loved every one of them (I still own an Amiga 1200, but I havent plugged it in for about 2 years.) Now I have a PC i can't see the point of going back in time to an old fashioned nachine. The Amiga will never match the ease of use and ability of a PC (mainly cause its dead!) Long live the Amiga, yes, but, please, remember that this is a now dead machine.Pc's rock!
True enough but the Amiga had a functional and reliable (as of 3.1 anyways) operating system that could work in under 1 MB of RAM...think about it. Even WIndows 98 wasn't happy unless you had 32MB of RAM and current OS's will use up to 512 MB JUST FOR THEMSELVES. Sometimes to 1 GB. More than 1000 times more memory needed...is there 1000 times more functionality? Not really...
Don't get me wrong what windows machines are doing today is, on the whole, way cooler than the old amiga...
I would like to see what an AMIGA type computer would be doing TODAY. Don't forget that in the same generation as the other machines these guys were at least 10 years ahead of the PC. Heck, PC's have only JUST gotten fast enough to emulate an amiga properly.
The PC vs Amiga battle is a tribute to how well you can do with a good marketing department even if your eng. dept is (comparatively) retarded.
Commodore got Dumb.
"Sure we loose a little on each one but we make up for it in volume!"
It's kind of ironic that the Amiga 500 was often viewed as (only) a games machine because all the cool hardware was integrated on the mainboard. These days PC's have almost the same stuff integrated. The PC's strength used to be that it was modular like the big box Amiga models. So in many ways the A500 was underestimated (as always - sigh -)
I know its not the same, but there Are emulators out there for amiga, i use it quite a lot to play games like flimbos quest, turrican 2 and to just fiddle around with wb. A word of warning: if you didnt own or have little knowledge of the amiga, then the emu can be difficult to use, as certain games require different os, ram, ocs ecs and aga, etc, can be confusing at first. All in all i loved my a1200, i gave it to my uncle a few years ago, when he moved house, he threw it away (the bastard).
I have always loved them, I remember I was 7 when my father brought it home. We had a large game collection; but that amiga broke when i was about 15 (and of course, we had other computers by then) but I saved up some money and after i moved out it was probably the first thing of MINE that i bought. My parents saved ALL our old games, and to this day I happily play my amiga just for the nostalgia. :)
I think they should absolutely bring this one out again.
My dad got one of these on August 19, 1989, and got Sword of Sodan a few weeks later. In 1995 I got to have it for myself and made some cool programs in AmigaBasic. I also liked the speech synthesizer (it was cool even as late as 1995, and was awesome in 1989). If you've got a swap disc for your Playstation 2, you can run an Amiga 500, but at 1/3 speed.
damn, i get extremely nostalgic watching stuff like this.. no matter how good the gfx look these days, i'll never enjoy my games as much as i did back then. even a tape looked high-tech.

@Lambonights Commodore didnt went bust.
they working under different names and with different compagnies.
i thought they stopped with the Amiga team people.
because the Dos computer was a better future plan.
so the old Amiga processor was finally getting a thing of the past.
it was almost an ATARI AMIGA in the beginning, but Commodore offered team Amiga a better deal when they started.

you dont need to do that, the Amiga traveled with you in the future.
everything you need is still for sale , on ebay or other sites.
Amiga is ALIVE.
and with PC software ,you can now easy store games and make backups and create floppy disks.
you can use a serial cable for connection and a program called amiga explorer for fast tranfer.
