@skeefoopanama It probably is low. Patman did some dyno testing on a stock pre-2008 KLR and came out with a peak at 33.9. Remember though that the KLR engine has remained relatively unchanged since 1987.
@Fryinberg The tire that's on the bike is a Dunlop 606. It's a little notchy. You can feel it when you're on a corner and at slow speeds. It's not unusable though. I haven't done much riding on that tire. I actually have two sets of wheels/tires. For the street I run Metzler Tourances.
I don't know that it gets more hp or not (not dyno'd) but if feels better on the low end. The engine hasn't really changed much on the 2009 vs what I have (2004) which is about 34hp.
Yes. Since changing the pipe, rejetting and adjusting the air mixture, it has dropped to about 45. But if I were to control the throttle a little better, I'd be back up to 50.
The tire is a little rougher. I tended to baby it more around corners. Plus it generates a lot of noise. It sounds like a 4x4 truck. Most of the roughness is felt at slower speeds (feels notchy). It also affects handling at higher speeds (a little less sure).
nice vid ^_^ whats the exact name and size of that rear tire?, is it a stock rim? would it fit a 08 klr? thats the exact tire i want! thanks in advance
I just seen some horse power figuers on KLR.net,and was not so happy about them,They have
stock KLR 650,claiming only 23 HP,at the rear wheel,Hell,My 99XR250 was doing 20 at the rear tire stock,23 HP for a klr 650 sounds kinda low.

or a lawnmower. No thanks. The klr will never look or sound good; its not what its about. If you're looking to wake up your neighbors though....

It's not too bad for noise. I've heard much louder. It's definitely quieter with the tip.
As for looks, beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I like the way it looks and sounds. Much better than the stock tweet.

Anybody know where I can get an exhaust insert for a m2 vale slip on for my 2006 ,Blade.Too freakin, loud !!!!

Sorry, I should have posted it with the video.
Without the P4 powertip:
Idle: 89 dB
2000 rpm: 91-92 dB
3000 rpm: 98-100 dB standing next to the bike
With the P4 Tip, and the meter set to A, I get the following:
Idle: 80 dB
2000 rpm: 84 dB
3000 rpm: 93 dB standing next to the bike

So what was the actual dB reading? My 07 with the stock pipe is 86dB at 1300rpm and 99dB at 4000rpm.

It's a Dunlop 606. The size is 130/90-17, which fits the stock KLR 650 rim (older model). I don't know if it's the same rim on the newer KLR,
robrjohnson 3 years ago
thanks so much! i'm going to get a extra set of rims and tires to those specs before i get my new klr, happy riding, ride safe, thanks again ^_^
