Perhaps love is like a resting place A shelter from the storm It exists to give you comfort It is there to keep you warm And in those times of trouble When you are most alone The memory of love will bring you home Perhaps love is like a window Perhaps an open door It invites you to come closer It wants to show you more And even if you lose yourself And don`t know what to do The memory of love will see you through Oh, love to some is like a cloud To some as strong as steel For some a way of li
I prefer this with John Denver. Villazon seems more concerned with perfecting the notes and loses the emotion. I love this song and would love to hear Il divo sing it.
Superb version, I plan to copy both of them for an audition where I jump from each of them to share the song. The John Denver version at the Met with Placido is a bit too tough for me since Denver is unique and my Opera can't jump that fast. These two have unique accents and split up the Tenor range until the final verse so I'm choosing to do this performance first and maybe do Denver with the real Placido once he sees I am serious. I started impression near 50 years ago,and stage 40 yrs ago
I miss John Denver´s voice. He gave the song an air of intimacy. When singing pop song, opera singers put their powerfull voices above the melody, making it almost "invisible". Here you hear two voices above anything else. Great voices, by the way. Thanks for posting
I loved the original by Denver & Domingo so much that when I was married 26 yrs ago, I had it sung at my wedding. I still believe the lyrics are the best definitive of Love that I have ever known! I had the honor of meeting John Denver on the night his daughter Jesse Belle was born in Aspen. He was indeed a national treasure!
The art song or lieder is NOT the exclusive domain of the German, French and Italian composers and poets.
America has produced some of the finest art songs ever and especially of the 20th century.
Those who criticise opera singers for singing this music really do not understand the close relationship singers of opera have always had with great art songs regardless where they were written.
Domingo singing in his normal range. In some moments he singing more high than Villazon.
Usually, Villazon's voice is more high (he is a pure tenor, Domingo now is a baritenor), but in this song Domingo play his original part (in 80s Domingo's voice was more high) and Villazon the Denver's part (as a light baritone)
Both tenors are dramatic tenors who also sing a s lyrico-sprintos. They have quite different voices and not just because Domingo is older. Their voices are focussed differently. Both are lovely singers.
I hear Rolando is having voice trouble which I hope he overcomes soon.
i like the minute at 2:21, when the orchestra starts to play louder :) it sound so majestic

They are singing here with the same technique. I like when it is a mix of pop and classic.

As far as I found out originally this is a country song.
