It must really suck to drive the aerial ladders up those streets most of the time. They should invest in something like what Seattle has- tandem axle tillers
Having tandems spreads the weight over more area which reduces road damage.
But i'm wondering how much weight is on the seattle tillers that they would be concerned with road damage????
If the point of the tandems is for more traction then i can see that but the overall weight in a tiller truck doesn't even come close to the weight carried on a freeway big rig.
@25mfd Washington state law applies to all trucks of certain axles and of certain weights tht force them to have extra axles, not just fire rigs. If you've ever been there you'll see a big difference in their trucks as opposed to the ones in California. This is to reduce wear on all highways and roads. I5 is a lot nicer up north than down in Cali. lol
that q sounds fuckin NICE!!!

If they got tandem axle tillers, it's more horsepower to pull the aerial up those streets more

@HighOnLife1985 Tandem axles will give more TRACTION.
A bigger engine will give more HORSEPOWER.
But i see your point.

Notice that the back part of the truck skids slightly just before the vehicle turns.

@ECgod77 More traction.

@25mfd True, but the only reason they have tandem axles is due to Washington state law dealing with weight distribution of vehicles

@ECgod77 A valid point.

Maybe washington st has softer roads perhaps?????
Anyway,thanks for the info
