That Duffy's guitar melody at minute 4 and Ian's moaning 'LOOOOOOve LOOOOOve LOOOOOOve'.. bring goose bumps in the skin, and a tear to the eyes exactly the same as it did to me in the 90's
Al principio no le haces mucho caso pero cuando oyes el disco 3 o 4 veces te das cuenta de la obra maestra que Mr. Astbury y Mr.Duffy plasman en el. 27 años despues y cada vez me gusta mas.
remember listenin to this in the late 80's and just getting the feeling like i'm so lucky and above all the other kids because they don't know or would even understand this music lol there were over 1200 kids in our hs and i bet a the time only a handful even heard of them until sonic temple came out! They instantly became one of my very favorite bands and still are!!
It's funny how every decade had a defining sound to its music. The 50's, 60's, 70's, 80's and 90's all had a certain sound. Without knowing a song you could play a tune and most people could say "yes, that's an 80's tune" or "That's 60's all the way." But something odd happened about ten years ago and the 2000's + 2010's seem to have lost any definition to it's music. No sound....no epic bands like the Cult or Van Halen. What happened??
Few albums are timeless. Where you can pick it up and listen to it start to finish and note feel it dated. Love is one of those few albums, that can stand the test of time.
The Cult just plain Rocks! In the 80's there was great music but there was also crappy hair metal like Poison, in the 90's the was Nirvana but there was also Limp Bizkit. We all suffer from selective memories and tend to think the music we listened to at 17 MUST be the greatest music ever made. There is good music out there today and there is shitty music too, just like there has always been.
@ilikenofx22 If you watch the she sells sanctuary video, it's pretty hard to defend the cult against poison on the degree of 'glam' for Ian was very, very glam, and actually has a much more, yet subtle femininity on stage vs Bret, who is very macho, even in drag. I LOVE the Cult, but technically, musically, C. C. Deville would school em all. LISTEN TO POISONS LOVE ON THE ROCKS (particularly the solo) and try to defend your statement.
@drogheda1966 Dude, it can't be a better way to put it, same here, this tune along with Nirvana my favourite songs in Love Album, it was in the mid 90's when I got a hold of it though.
@drogheda1966 Agree entirely. I used to go running whilst listening to The Cult, Hendrix, Led Zeppelin etc. I used to put in some epic times which I largely attribute to this potent rock music. 5 miles in 30 mins dead was a breeze! The Cult must surely be THE most underrated rock band of the last 25 years. Everybody raved about Guns & Roses-who were very good, but were they better than The Cult? I think NOT. The Cult were extremely creative, original & innovative. 80's Led Zep??
goes back to my teen years also, first rock band got into ,see them at wembely arena at 15,been playing guitar 20 years now, nearly 40, and my mates still say a riff or two sounds lke the cult,no offence to these but listening back after such time and still with great memories and still like it ,its not as this all consuming as the young lad filled with hunger which you embrace.love removal was first track i heard and now feel its a bit corny but still has a place of the rebel school days
@gcdailey317 you aint kiddin what a track it has everything riffs and those drums brill.this album blew me away when it came out all those years ago absolute classic
25 years old and still going strong. I'd put this up against any do-hickie songs we have today. My fellow 40 somethings - we (and our music Back in 'da Day) knew how to Throw Down! Thanks INMOR4L - Long Live Ian and Billy ~~!
do you?...after the incredible energy of the 70's the 80's was a souless , bland era when it comes to music
[excluding The Cult!]- Music is now more experimental and more interesting than its ever been [Master Musicians of Bukkake, Black Sheep, Sun ((O}}, Grinderman, Eels, Lemon Jelly, Go Team.....]. It might not be in the music charts but it's out there......Happy hunting!.H.Hx.
@jas22 Lady Gag-gag is today's wanna be Madonna, except she's not original, and has no talent other than trying to be abrasive so that she stay's relevant. Good for you to be listening to The Cult.
@vicesgotme well, im old, vice. i remember when i first saw "she sells sanctuary" on either Night Flight or Radio 1990. i immediately got "Love" and found, well, love.
i think they are touring, or some semblance of The Cult is. maybe just billy and ian, not sure.
@jas22 HA..Im old as well, pushing 40 is 'old' these days! Funny I remember night flight. damn, that's goin back. I saw The Cult in '01-'02 on the Beyond good and evil tour, with Matt Sorum still on drums and the shows were incredible. I'd imagine they are just as good today.
@vicesgotme I'm a 70's-80's child and I see GaGa as one of the bright spots in modern music. Yeah she stands on Madonna's shoulders, but she def talented and she took her name from a great Queen song :)
@vicesgotme I wasn't even a teenager...... I had the likes of Nirvana et. al. and I still reckon these guys kick ass! I guess the two aren't too far removed..... But, yeah, I pity the youth of these days as I don't think they have anything comparable..... My tastes have grown but I still rate these guys! I think this album in particular stands the test of time :-)

a. picked up a guitar or any instrument?
b. seen either band live?
i have seen both bands a minimum of a dozen times each, and I promise you even CC would say that Billy Duffy schools him on the guitar.....
