propane trucks are pressurized oil tanker trucks are not, one of them would shurely leak and explode if filled with propane.

Chyeah, it's startling when you see it and feel the heat of the flames from something so far away, but his reaction time was just fine.. He jumped back no less then a tenth of second after the shock wave sound "started"

Yeah, and a jump is a defensive/evasive kind of thing. Seeing the fireball, his heart probably dropped- but the sound, heat, and physical rumbling (I assume it could be felt) would be what would take longer to reach him and give him the sense of real threat to himself, thus the more physical reaction at that point.
