I am extremely impressed, I can fumble through this version from the new real book but have no idea how to produce such a lovely improvised solo as you have done.
You could not have selected a finer composer of melodies than Oscar Levant. You have done a very fine, heartfelt, rendition of his masterpiece: "Blame it on my Youth".
It may be of interest to your fans that Levant was a close friend with George Gershwin. When George died in 1937, it was Oscar Levant who was crowned as the sole interpreter and virtuoso performer of George Gershwin's Music. All of it!!!
You know you are very talented in your musical recreational activity! However, I would recommended that you try and look into a different category of music other than jazz. You seem to be great at playing jazz pieces, but I think you should at least try to expand your creativity in your musical activities!
They're called Real books. And fake books. Google a little and you can find a search engine where you can input the name of a song and it will give you a list of volumes that list it.
Thanks! I get just about all of my sheet music for jazz stuff from real and fake books. There are alots of varieties of them, but try to get the latest ones; I forget their name but look around. They have alot of standards in them, this being on of them!
When playing solo piano there's a common technique to play tenths in the left hand (play a C with the fifth finger and an E (in the next octave) with the thumb. For some people that's a tough stretch. I joked that with your long fingers you could probably reach the Ab in the next octave with your thumb!
Wow, either the video is distorted or you've got some long fingers, and I think it's the latter. You can probably stretch a b13th. Nice, controlled playing and good touch. Keep posting!
love when you ignored your small mistake..so great!

Hi Kim! Great job! :) Where did you get the band? Are they live, or are they prerecorded tracks? If the latter, did you program them yourself?

where did you get the band?
by the way you're so lucky having such fingers. I wish I could stretch mines!!
cosmicwizz 4 years ago
actually I cannot stretch a 10th with my left hand =(. They seem long but my hand/finger stretch is average, that being a 9th.

Ah I see hehe. I'm familiar with that tenths thing but sadly I can't apply it :(
Anywhos, I'm currently trying to fight off an annoying fever since Sunday so recording has slowed down.

hehe, nah I'm just skinny....I think.
What do you mean by stretch a flat 13th? If I were to play C7b9b13 (for example) I'd play C-Bb-Db-E-Ab; but I think that's normal ^^
