  • 240p, we meet again...

  • I want to ask....

what you use the motor to rotate the ball mill?

please reply, because I want to make it

  • @triden55 Agreed

  • @DavidRothe You will never get the same quality of BP from a coffee grinder, and you can't make AL powder either.

  • I use a stainless stell electric coffe blender. Around 35 gramms BP in three minutes, so around 700g/hour, in three hours 2,1kg BP. Way better than a loud ballmill...

  • Comment removed

  • @UTubeisSHIT523441 Black powder does NOT ignite because of friction. The stainless-steel-inner parts of the grinder does NOT provocate electrical discharges(by the way: BP doesn´t even ignite well with electrical sparks of that short time).

Try it. Take a small amount of BP, and hammer on it as often as you can. It will not ignite. Take a little piezo-igniter(7.000 Volts out of an electric lighter), and try to ignite it. Have fun.

  • @DavidRothe There is no way you can coffee grind the BP SAFE, and even if you succeed the coffe-grinded BP will burn like shit, unless you transfer it to BP to balll-mill for another hour, or two..

  • @UTubeisSHIT523441 Well, not really. My BP out of the mill burns very great, although I granulate it anyway. I use it as liftpowder for mortars and it works as fine as ballmilled or handmade BP, so I don´t think, it´s bad. And when you think, I got my fingers on the grinder while working - don´t be stupid.

  • wonderful, you do realise you now have small amounts of aluminium in your mix because it does shave away, trust me, i learned that one the hard way -_-

  • what not to do

  • looks like its going too fast to effectively mill

  • ive worked on a huge ball mill , trust me they are really shit

  • where the hell can i get some steel balls?

i cant rip off my own this is shit

  • Comment removed

  • What's with the Fluke? Do you have to monitor voltage?

  • @mrshzzit1 Well aren't you just the hobbeyestest?

  • 0:39 RACE OF BALLS :D

  • Song?

  • I'm selling a 3 pound ball mill for $30. Please message me if you are interest

  • more fuggin rock shite STOP usin it in vids cuz we all hate it

and if u like it it meanz we HATE u

  • This is dumb as hell comon sense dictates that a ball mill should not be made with metal of any kind

  • @bmxjnky5300 go liston to your butt pounding techno music anal p0under. and leave this stuff to hobbeyests

  • Name of song: Blindspott: Mind Dependency

  • one of your balls dropped

  • Fucking hate the music.

  • does anyone know what this is called in dutch...?

  • its not the same as real one asshole!!! mamaguebo eres tu , por si acaso!!!! por palomo!!!!

  • Good song.

  • jaka chujnia

  • why?..

  • you need to gear the motor

  • so after i read the comments, i see this is for milling gunpowder. hmmm, maby steel bearings, and a steel can are not such a good combination for powder. i see sparks from that which is not real good. brass balls and a ridgid plastic container might save an arm or eye. great concept though.

  • Cool - do you do BP wet (or damp) when you mill it?

  • Nice balls, man.

  • After about 10 times I realized you didn't mean the second hand of the worlds biggest clock.

  • a bit to fast, but VERY NICE!

  • Good work! But wasn't just easier to connect motor directly to that can (of course making it removable) rather then doing something like you did.Of course, here you can put almost any can you want but is that really needed (unless you are chemist and need 100% clean cans).I am planning to build mine and I was thinking about just making part that holds can and then attaching drill when I want to use it.

  • @boomkaE The way i see it is if you apply the torque on the outside of the can, as done in the video, the force will be applied farther from the rotation axis resulting in a larger torque thus making it easier to turn. It's the same idea as trying to turn a wheel from the centre as opposed to the outer rim. Perhaps on a ball mill this size it won't make that much of a difference but on larger devices it will.

  • хорошаааа

  • Who is the artist? What is the name of that song?

  • @rbw19800 song: Blindspott_-_Mind_Dependency

  • HI FRM OAMARU, "HOLY SCHITT!" N-ZED CRAFTYNESS AT IT FINEST...G'ONYA M8T!.

  • anyone knows the name of the song?

  • @kamil1024 blindspott mind dependency

    found it with TrackID XD

  • @FMxFireworks good job :)

  • so thats how they make balls!!!!!!!

  • @flyinbryan1619 that's a joke, yes?

  • hey i live in nz and i am wanting to get some visco fuse do u no where i can get some chrz.

  • At that high speed I would really use it to get pottasium nitrate finer... but I wouldn't ball mill BP in that one..

  • good to mix black powder :)

  • whats the name of the song? nice ball mill

  • what are those ball things made of?

  • toooo fast!!! steel balls sparkling!!! sorry for my english ;)

  • it's a ball roller not a ball mill. To make good ball mill you need to use plexiglass lid and set rotation speed at level that milled material will fall of the tin walls a little in front of balls. Allso usage of metal tin is not a good idea. It will degrade reaaaaaaly fast. Every plastic is alot better and safer.

Cheers. btw. good job tough ;)

  • very nice ;)

  • what song is this it sounds good

  • what song is this?

  • crazy kiwi's, alwaysmaking cool things, like the Sea Legs boat, or electric fence

  • lol I love it ....epic ball mill is epic

  • is that a milo can?

  • @jedster009 looks like it

  • what song??

  • This is far too fast for milling black powder. You are playing with danger.

  • what's dis thing for? more than rolling balls?

  • @teddy555tothe666 It is for crushing rock found in gold bearing areas; oftentimes quartz will have gold veins running through them.

  • im a noob???

    4 What u need this ?

  • @Crashmaster2K grinding black powder

  • 80rpm is about right for a jar that diameter but you do need a lot more media to create the cascading effect for efficient grinding.

  • To everyone saying its turning to fast, also watch the last couple seconds of the clip :)

  • Are those metal balls? if so LOL.

  • lol is that a wheelchair motor??? i used the same;)

  • too fast, if that thing was loaded with 100grams the ball will just roll around full circle instead of dropping down half way.

  • @zakamooza ball mill flash if you wanna blow your dumbass up. Flash is only to be mixed by screening, paper, or non static bag. You shouldn't be making any in the first place

  • what does a ball mill do?

  • @johndeereboy508 well, you put your black powder in,or flash powder , what ever you use ,and it makes the grains smaller, it burns faster ,its realy good

  • @zakamooza but what do u do with the balls?

  • @johndeereboy508if you dont use the balls its completely useless, the balls grind the powder,it make the powder thiner

  • where'd you get the bearings?

  • Is there a specific type of lead balls that are non-spark or is it all lead balls?

  • Holy shit! That is way WAY WAY too fast. At that speed some materials are going to ignite.

  • Comment removed

  • @9DragonMaster

you do not need expensive milling equipment you only need $2 in nickels

  • good old kiwi ingenuity

  • my ball mill is popping off the lid to the can im using, what should i use to keep the lid on? someone suggested tape, what about aluminum foil or plastic wrap?

  • 0:39 ROFL

  • so what exactly do you use these things for???

  • @marine2553 Safely grinding explosive or non explosive material. Mainly used for explosive purposes, such as black powder, so that you don't blow your hands off while you grind it into fine powder from a solid.

  • @marine2553

grinding solids into powders, or making black powder gunpowder

  • nice, i'm planning to make one and i'm confused how the rods are set up in the wood, do i just make a hole?

  • what rpm 12v motor should i use

  • Ball mills are used for grinding up bone pieces left over from cremated bodies.

  • If you are using this speed use more media, like x3 more.

  • isn't it a bit too fast ??

  • BALLS OF STEEL

  • @raxredneck actaully balls of lead and antimony

  • Wow that thing is fast! I would advise you to use some more media at that speed wow.. :P

  • Me thinks a wee bit of gear reduction is in order.

  • Hey what does a ball mill do? You put like chunks of led in it and it turns them into balls?

  • what the hell is this for? whats the whole point?

  • Mixing stuff, such as powders or crushing stuff ie. gun powder.

  • hey my ball mill keeps acting up it runs like a champ then out of nowhere the media and bp get stuck and it starts spinning off balance and no grinding happens all the stuff on the inside just stops spinnin! please help if you know what to do!

  • where did you get the motor?

  • like here watch?v=O2-gg0C2Asw

anyhow, good idea to show the inside of it, most videos show nothing of the inside

  • the milling media has to crush the material by falling onto it rather than rolling it over. the speed of rotation is key. the container has to rotate fast enough so that the balls travel along it's wall almost up the ceiling where they fall down because centrifugal force cannot keep them up anymore.

if the container rotates too fast, the balls stick to the walls like water to a bucket when spinning it over your head.

search wikipedia for ball mill for more info.

  • dupolod powiedzial o tak

  • what is the song???

  • would brass balls be ok too?

  • can i use a motor from a small fan or medium table fan

  • I would be cautious, those lead sinkers contain steel loops for attaching the fishing line, and if 2 of them hit, it might cause a spark. Not to freak you out, but I would remove them before I felt safe.

  • how did u do that?

  • i want to ask you a question. when can I find the engine to make it? and the balls inside? thanks

  • too fast

  • It does appear to be too fast, However he is using LEAD balls. No Sparks from them. Although Al might be too soft for just about any other type of material.

    ..X..

  • @elliotmotoX i wouldn't say TOO fast, he just needs more media if he uses that speed

  • Would it be ok to use stainless steel balls for the medium? Im sure they dont produce sparks

  • use lead or aluminium, stainless steel can spark

  • no worries thanks!

  • It depends on the alloy

  • @AxelTiger no its not okay lead on the other hand would be fine, and lead plated doesn't cut it solid lead will do

  • @MacsCanfly im using ones from wallmart that just say they contain lead, but there were other ones called chrome and another one that was a lead imitate. i ended up getting egg lead weights, which have holes thru the center i plan on using some hot glue to fill the holes before i mix any bp. so far i've been just milling the items seperately even though they are all a decent powder, its the little things in this craft that make it ignite. should i mill b4 or after granulation? or both?

  • @9DragonMaster before granulation

  • i second wsdiablo213 -- great song! who's the artist?

  • @EasternBodyTherapy:

    See my comment below.

  • What is The Name Of the Song Plz?

  • @WSdiablo213:

    Song is:

    Blindspott - Mind Dependancy

  • Ok, I am considering making one of these. I have two obstacles: One, were do I get the motor specifically, and what kind do I ask for? I.E. Fan blower motor, since 12 volt?? What did you use for traction around the can? How are you sure these are static free materials for safe black powder making? Even the can must be static free.

  • It would be better for you to use a motor off of old Microwave or similar house hold appliance since you would known the voltage and easier for you to work with. SPEED and strength of motor are secondary to durability and the motor NOT using carbons contacts, as these provide arc-spark and big safety hazards.

He used rubber bands around the can. As far as static goes. USE YOUR HEAD. I suggest you slow down and proceed slowly. and let it run outside of your home.

    ..X..

  • So what you gonna blow xD ?

  • Blackpowder is a mixture of KNO3+C+S mixed (in 75:15:10). A ball mill can mix the chemicals and turn them into real fine powder. To make blackpowder you first mill the KNO3 for a couple of hours, then mill the C+S for some hours, then finally put the KNO3+C+S together and mill for some hours. Now you have 'meal powder'. Ad 10%water and 5% alcohol to the meal and form the mixture (wear gloves). Now compress the mixture to 1.7gram/cm³. Let it dry and there ya go; blackpowder.

  • Honestly its in the title "Ball MILL" its refering to grinding. Such as KNO3 with C+S. Or KClO3, or even sugar for black powder.

  • its going to fast, 70rpm is better

  • its better to have a slower ball mill it grinds way better...

  • mmmmn...lead dust..........don't breed......

  • ok so did you have like a cap on the tin?

  • lead dust. health problems.

  • not if you have a face mask and ventilate the area.

  • i wonder what happens when i get inside that barrel lol XD

  • @AndyCAgi then u will be a Andyball only used at Andymons

  • si si mettigli la polvere da sparo poi se una sfera fa una scintilla mi racconti

  • Hello, I was wondering if I could use a ball mill to roll stars? by putting lead shot BB's in and wetting them, then putting D1 mix on them.

  • Thats perfectly possible but you arent gonna end up with nice round stars.

Also lead shot BB's are usually a bit to large to start a star its easier to start with a small size fishing lead.

I find it easier to just make a dough out of my compo and cut them I usually get longer tails that way.

  • sweet set up man, i am wanting to try and make some black powder for fun, but i was wondering if a slow turning motor would be better?? is there a diffrence between a ball mill and a rock thumbler?

  • Its the same thing only rock tumblers are called that way because they are originally designed to polish rocks and minerals.

  • good idea

  • do you mill the powder in parts or all at once?

  • Now. A number of people here have listed a few home repair stores that carry a stump remover and, yes, I've found the same stuff and used it also, BUT, that was back in the 90's..I haven't seen it in a long time and just looked with in the last week. If there is some at the local wardware store near you, you'd better stock up. It will not be around for long.

  • could you use a glass gar if you could then it would look pretty cool

  • CAN I USE MARBLES IN BALL MILL FOR BLACK POWDER? U KNOW THOSE LITTLE BLUISH GREEN HARD BALLS WITH SWIRLS ON THEM. I NEED TO KNOW CUZ THE 4TH IS COMEING UP SOOn! (;

  • Lead only for BLACK POWDER!

Buy cannonball lead fishing weights at the tackle shop and take the brass off ;)

  • Yes but the problem might be that you get glass splinters in youre black powder. But i wont worry about that to much. So officiale No you cant but i would say no problem you can.

  • oh alrite. well I ended up using lead fishing weights it worked out Spectacular. I just posted the video like half hour ago.

i just found out that YouTube made it suprisingly difficult to do the thumbnail trick now =s

  • is there a sub for the balls like can u use some dead AA batteries? i dont have the metal balls and dont no where to get them

  • go buy some fishing weights the round ones they work well

  • can ball mills make small pebbles ?

i wanna use it to make 1/8in pebbles for my bonsai soil any help plz?

  • tropical fish tank gravel???

  • hmmm better buy something plastic as a box if because the media can spark against the can.....

  • I'd only worry about it if you were trying to mill an explosive powder. you could use this for milling charchol, or anything else like that. But ya, plastic would be a better idea for alot of milling..

  • He is using lead sinkers so it cant spark. If he was using steel balls or another kind of metal then yes I would agree with you. The metal tin is fine provided he sticks to the correct media to mill with. Lead, glass, ceramic and brass wont spark.

  • can u PLEASE tell me where can i buy KNO3, my fathe is a chemistry teacher but he wont give me some beacause the last time he gave it to me i exploded it at school.... :D how can i get a ball mill? is there other way to this that isnt internet?

  • just make KNO3 its really easy just need ash water pot soil and alcohol to purify it

  • amazon

  • my dads a chemisty teacher as well...i wanted some potasium nitrate too and i thought i could get it easy as hell from the fertilizer plant but turns out they use somthing called "ureia" and its only like 50% potasium nitrate so it wouldnt be very good for explosives

  • get some stump remover from lowes boil it down with some water and there you go kno3

  • grant's stump remover is almost pure KNo3. it has a small ammount of pretty much inert binder but it won't do anything.

it's the standard source of KNo3 for the home experimentor. availible at almost any hardware store. ball mills at harbor freight or a rock tumbler from toys r us

  • tat's for blak powder

    scuse my english i'm italian

  • That's definitely impressive, good job. Saw the voltmeter.

  • how do you keep the balls in -_-

  • lol

  • what did you use to keep the pvc pipe still in the wood?? bearings?? where did you get them? how much?

  • what song is that ? I read all the coments but none mentions it.

  • where do you found that balls???

  • He found them at the fishing shop i supose since the coment say's: "I used lead fishing sinkers"

    -Greets DESTROYER-

  • ah thank you!

  • hi there what do thay do to the gun powder can you help me

  • They crush the potassium nitrate in too the charcoals pores the longer you mill the faster your gunpowder burn i suggest you look at my account on their is a website that will help you

  • maltesers:P
