Impossible though as in Linux unfortunately the graphical environment is just "set on top" on the console (like Win 3.1 on DOS) and so this fluent integration is impossible.
any one have used ubuntu 9.10 ? let me know how is it. Because I tried to installed it from upgrade from ubuntu 9.04, it kind of screwed up my laptop over such as like not working touchpad, slow performing
Obviously neither of you have ever seen a bootloader. It's super low-res. Plus Although my Mac could probably do that, not every computer could, and if that is the case, then it would look really laggy. Plus this is way it is 11 seconds. If you can find and OS this fast send it my way. Otherwise...
:) you should really provide animation with login window :) but with this current mockup it's rather easy to just slip in another sideway stop for login...
Hey I really love the idea!! It looks wonderful and very simple, BTW what I am concerned is the 3d usage when computer is starting up, something that not many of the computers will be able to pull up...
Instead of slide the boot screen, why don't just use only fade in and fade out effects instead??
Awesome stuff! It would be even more cool if the desktop itself faded in and out to make it even more seamless, but I'm not certain if that's even possible ;)
thats actually in versions 9.04 and lower.

Computers can't do animation that fast. (really like going from desktop to shutdown in 2 seconds would be REALLY glitchy)

Uh... what kind of computer are you using? Something from the 90's?
My Karmic install boots in 20 seconds and shuts down instantly.

I like the idea of desktop sliding from the right.

I liked the simplicity

Looks great, I LOVE it because there isn't too much shadow and glow on the text, I love just the simple colours and no gradients in a boot screen.
Anyway I'm offf to try and write this for my latest arrival, my beautiful Dell Vostro 1000 for £350
