Do you have a video for how to replace that bottom latch? My bottom latches came out in pieces. I have another Macbook Pro junker where the latch does work.
Thanks a lot for this really great how-to. However, I don't seem to be able to do the "push the clips" thing at 3:25. The clip on the right is closed, but the one in the middle isn't. Sadly I don't really see exactly what you are doing. Do you push with your finger? Where exactly? How deep do you insert your tool into the DVD ROM opening? It would be really great to see it in a bit more detail, could you post another video, or link me another resource? But thanks anyway?
Before you dismantle your computer, try the simpler solution. Press the latch in, while holding the computer upside down (i.e., keyboard face down) - then blow canned air into the little rectangular holes to dislodge the obstruction. It worked for me in 30 secs on my Macbook Pro, and no need to perform open-hear surgery.
@cawakahn I just took your advice-- I narrowed the air pipe with some pliers, put the pipe in the slot with the computer first balanced on the left side and then on the right side, blowing in air for maybe 15 seconds. Soon the latch popped out flush and the problem was solved. THANK YOU!! PJTramdack
hi your videos are great and very helpful, i have macbook pro 15' and for some reason when i try to load a cd or software cds it just trows it out again, thanks
how do i fix the bottom thing a that the latches connect to?the left piece fell off not the latch though, now my mac will not close at all can i order that part or...?
(continued from below) it had only been opened once, when I had the store add a second gig of ram. This is a Macbook Pro Core Duo, from the first batch that came with Intel in 2006. But the scary part is when I turned it on. It made a staticky sound while booting. Is it because I made the mistake of blowing on the inside with my mouth? Cause I turned it right off, heart racing, then started it a second time. The sound stopped during that second reboot. Then no sound on third reboot.Seems ok
ok, so I just did this repair. My problem was that my latch was stuck not in, but out. Once the lid was closed I could not open it cause the latch could not be pushed far in enough. I had to tear it open by wiggling it side to side. Turns out there was a lose screw that had lodged itself behind the latch. It was a small black T6 screw, but I could not see where it had come from. So yep, it sounds like a joke, by I actually reassembled it and have one screw remaining in hand. It had only...
so happy now, i was scared my laptop would never latch again. like i'm gonna take it to an apple store so they can empty my wallet. i love you tube... and whoever that apple technician is.
I'd love to see you replace the display on a PowerBook G4 Alum 1.67. Mine has a line across the display and I prob just need to replace the LCD. BTW you are very CUTE!!!!
Love the video. have a faulty latch. Followed your steps (which you made easy). but when I opened the keyboard (top part) and looked inside their was no granuels, anyways i blew into it and made it clean then i noticed that the part that the clips hold onto is broken off (on both sides. Definetly needs replacing. Or can you help me do a DIY jop of making it work. I live in Australia and before i saw your vid i
Taking apart the mouse buttons (Same exact laptop you were working on in this vid.) and fixing/replacing them would we a great "How to Video" for me. Thanks, great easy to follow lesson!
I discovererd after taking mine apart, cause may be debris in 2 hook slots, next to/below the trackpad
Before you take those 23 screws out try:
1. Have someone hold the laptop upside-down with
it opened.
2. Press on the latch button to an open position.
3. Insert a thin toothpick gently into the hook slots and run it back and forth GENTLY to clean it out.
4. Turn the computer back right-side up and try out the latch.
5. Repeat if necessary.
