people argue that rugby is tougher than the nfl, id like to see a rugby player go against this guy with no pads, lol the rugby player would have a dislocated body after night train was done with him
One of the main reasons why it was called the Black and Blue division.
Think about the defenses in that NFC Central. Lombardi's Packers, the Purple People Eaters, Dick Butkus in Chicago, and Night Train and Alex Karras in Detroit.
wow, night train lane wouldn't last in today's league, he'd be broke and suspended for these hits. thank you roger goddell for ruining a great sport and pretty much undermining this hall of famer and how he played. now this was football!!!! its a pansy league now.
It's because of Daddy Night Train *he was my God Father* they have the Face Mask rule & the Collar bone rule :) He was a BAAAAD ASSSSS!!! :( I miss him so damn much!! RIP Daddy Night Train, ur baby girl is trying hard to keep your memory alive!!
@crlnabelle Hey little lady, this guy was my insperation when I played football in high school and europe. I wasn't allowed to neck tackle, but I played bump and run like nobodies business and I hit like it was personal. Thanks for this posting.
The sad thing about these great football players that made Pro Football, is that they made the game and played for peanuts compaired to the multi-million dollar wimps of today. The games were a lot more interesting back then. Today, they throw a flag up for any reason.
It pisses me off how wimpy these brats in the league are today! "Oh I can't play cause I got a migraine or I got a booboo on my toe :(" SHIT...Daddy Nighttrain played hard & paid for it dearly years later!! Then getting screwed by the NFL like all of the older players...living payday to payday! Sometime selling personal awards & things that meant so much to him just to make ends meet!! :(
I totally agree with you Crinabelle. I love to watch the old NFL films. Night Train is in the Hall of Fame, but other players should also be in it. Two of them are "Mad Dog" Mike Curtis #32 of the Colts and Chris Hanburger #55 of the Redskins. Hanburger perfected the blitz. Butkus is in. Bart Starr said he was more afraid of Mike Curtis than Butkus. I saw a program of former Super Bowl I & II Packer players. One sells shoes, several had to sell their rings, one died homeless, etc. It's a shame.
He used to sit there & talk about how many of his teammates deserved to be in the HOF with him. It broke his heart really. I actually have his HOF jacket in my closet :) I'm saving it to show my son when he's old enough to understand. I have so many of his personal posessions he left me...but I would rather have him back :( I HATE Superbowl weekend now because he passed the same week leading up to SB. We buried him the day before SB on 02-02-02!!
What I meant was that it's funny how the sotires of guys like Michael Oher, and Vince Papale get their own movies, when Night Train has possibly the most interesting backstory of any hall-of-famer, and yet has no movies made about him.
maybe not, with all these bull shit rules to help the offense, DBs cant do shit now, you cant hit him beyond 5 yds, cant hit him to high, to low...when hes not looking u cant hit him, fuck that, if a wr crosses the middle it used to be a free ticket to knock someones head off, not anymore, these rules are killin the game, its almost painful to watch now, every second play there is some flag, and 90% of them are pussy little things that made no difference...LET EM PLAY!!!!!
Jack Tatum was always my favorite DB of All Time but Night Train just took the # 1 Spot on my list and #2 is Tatum...plus Tatum use to look up to Night Train so I have to put the teacher at #1
I loved this player. The greatest DB to ever play the game. Yes better than Neon Deion too. 14 ints in one season is incredible and he made the NFL ban his moves like the clothesline head tackle. Thanks for posting this. 5 stars for NightTrain Lane!
SubZero3000, I hope you're not talking about Night Train. It just wouldn't make sense because he was abandoned as a baby in a dumpster in I want to say Austin, TX. Nice Try though!
I think after Barry its between Doak Walker and Night Train. Both were great at their respective positions but Night Train was definately one of the most dominant DBs ever.
Yea 14 interceptions in just 12 games is insane - in any era. There's a cleaner version of this video on nfl*com/videos, along with MANY other NFL films videos. You should check it out. Many docs on former greats and teams.
Holy shit!!! Are you a Lions fan too? We're a dying breed. Im actually hoping the curse is real, that way we can get into some good seasons Im tired of waiting. I liked the draft this year for the most part, hopefully its the spark of a new era. I wanted Joe Thomas last year and we got CJ, so I was pretty happy that we addressed the OL this time around. Im already excited for football season but like every other year I have my expectations low.
Yea, i'm a Lions fan, native to MI I've been to four Lions games. #1 Oct 30 05, loss to the bears, Turkey Day 06, loss to the Fins, then, another loss to the bears in in late 06, then finally a win over the Cheifs in 07, woulda been at the Turkey day game, but my old man sold our tickets,
Oh, yea. Joe Thomas, I CANNOT Beleive they passed him up. I like that Gosder is a natural RT, cause I think that with support that Dominic Raiola and Jeff Backus could get some decent pass blocking done.
Yeah, Im still scratching my head over why they let so many go so easy. Im curious about Dan Orlovsky too, this is his 4th season (all with the Lions) and he hasnt even thrown 20 passes but they keep bringing him back so he must be doing something right. I just hope they keep Ernie Sims around and build the defense to suit him.
I expect Mike Martz to get a few players away from us as their contracts expire just like he did to the Rams. My main thing is I hope we keep Ernie Sims and

One of the main reasons why it was called the Black and Blue division.
Think about the defenses in that NFC Central. Lombardi's Packers, the Purple People Eaters, Dick Butkus in Chicago, and Night Train and Alex Karras in Detroit.
All 4 teams with hall of fame defenses.

walked on the field and asked for a try out.
