  • HI, it looks very nice. Is it also possible to start with small twists?

  • @lisaninus Yes you can

  • Her locs are very nice. I only have 1 comment hope you don't mind. When u use product in or on the locs it will eventully create a build up within the locs over a period of time. Loc product does not ALL wash out and it sets in the core of the loc and cause weight to the roots. Hv u ever seen some1 with locs & they have thinned @ the edges and @ the top? PRODUCT and improper tightening. I only use water on my locs, no product & my hair is healthy & loc'd. Mine r palm rolled w/no product..

  • are these extensions wit her natural hair

  • @XhijahG2 No it is all her hair. Her locs were started with small braids and the new growth is maintained with the latchhook.

  • One ? Dose it hurt cause it seem like it would

  • @MrJrocc09 It doesn't hurt. If they are done too tightly then yes they could.

  • Looks nice. I have a question though. With this method is it possible to take out the locs somewhere down the line if she starts to miss her loose hair?

  • @mizchif01 The locs could be combed out if she really wanted them to but it would still be pretty difficult.

  • They look damn good lol. Shoot, you say your not a pro, but they look better than mine.

  • hello i love your daughters hair! I have a question I'm considering giving my daughters locs did your daughter ask for them or did you start her really young?

  • @oteliahawkins She asked for them for about a year and I finally decided she was ready for them. I was scared at first because kids are so indecisive so I waited and when she continued to ask I decided she meant it.

  • Thanks so much for your video... trying to convince my 7yo that this is an awesome style option (easy for mommy) but at least she has stated she will "never get one of those perm things" so that's a start. I am 6 years relaxer free, but new to locs and even newer to latching. You make it look easy!! Great job!!

  • forget them rude ass comments . they look goood !

  • @floetry15 Thank you

  • Your daughter is so beautiful. And I loooooove her hair! Just looooove it! Keep up the good work! ;-)

  • My daughter is 5 do you think thats to young for braidlocs?

  • oh thanks..duh! I don't know why that didn't click with me. However her hair is nice and neat.

  • very nce but they look like braids not locs

  • @niasiac Because they were started with small box braids which is why they are called braidlocs. The new growth is then tightened with a latch hook. Eventually the braid pattern disappears and blends in with the rest of the latched new growth. Thanks for watching!

  • Your daughter is so pretty:)

  • they look soo gorgous...is that braids on the end?

  • They look beautiful! She wears them well :-)

  • Absolutey beautiful!! Are you growing her out naturally doing this? I love it!!!

  • Beautiful! I think you did a great job! So her locks started out as braids? I recently decided to l let my daughter get locks...I hope I'm able to keep hers as neat! Thumbs up to you!

  • Lovely... i really want to see how your beautiful daughter's hair is growing. I'm interested to know why in the first video you conditioned her hair? was this to make it softer. How's her hair doing now?

    Many thanks

  • I've been thinking about this look it facinates me.How do you unlock them?or you have to go bald to restart?

  • @123lovedance456 No you don't have to shave your hair off....however it is a long process ( a few days) to undo locks that have completely formed....but I've seen it done!

  • I think her hair looks awesome. They kinda remind me of sisterlocks but they do look good. I love them!

  • Your daughters hair looks great girl. Never mind all the haters, they're just jealous.

    Good Work!!

  • too small, too tight.

  • @RodaDesiree No their not. Her hair is even stronger than when we first started. They look tight because of the size but they aren't. As for the size they are just fine. I have seen them smaller and maintain locs that are much smaller so believe me, they are not too small. Maybe for you but not in general. Locs maintains with a latching tool can be quite small because there is less tension on the hair. Palm rolled locs cannot be this small because of how they tend to thin with excessive tension.

  • your daughter is so cute

  • all natural god,i wanna dread my hair

  • where can i get that latch hook

  • @5goodlove You can get it from any craft store for $2-$5 (and the $5 are the REALLY nice ergonomically correct ones)

  • I know this is very late, but I just wanted to say, great video! her hair looks absolutely gorgeous.

  • here hair look nice..do u see a diffrece in palming rolling and latch hook?

What is the best method to tighten it?

  • Really, great job - one of the best vids ive seen!

  • I have locs; I've been growing them for five years. oh, and your daughter's locs are the bomb...very nice.

  • I'm going to start my braidlocs soon. I wanted to know, did you use the pomade through your daughters hair as you braided? Or only during re-tightening?

  • i know this video is old, but you did a good job! wow i use the same products that you use for your daughter's hair! the only thing i don't have is the vitamins, since they take forever now to ship. i might order it one day and forget about it until i comes! lol what was the deciding factor to do a 3pt rotation instead of 4pt, or did you say two? i got braidlocs now and i got a nappy loc too. i thought about using the latch hook, but i am kinda scared of it!

  • i think u did a wonderful job

  • Wow! Great Job mommy! Such a GREAT alternative to the chemical treatments most resort to and your baby girl is gorge! I'm considering sister-locks for my hair. I have four natural daughters, I need something a little more "simply" on a daily basis for my hair. :-) I love her hair!!!!

  • shes gonna be bald when she grows up. there is no need for it to be that tight

  • @johnnaskutt Oh, I forgot your the expert! She is not going to be bald because they aren't tight! They may look like it because they are small and maintained with a tool unlike palm rolled locks. I've been maintaining locks for almost 8 years so I know what I'm doing. If you look at her updated videos you will see her hair is flourishing and is even healthier than ever before so please keep your negativity to yourself, don't bring it to my page cause I don't need it nor do I want it.

  • @CoilsKinksCurls im rolllllllllllllllllllllllllllin @ JOHntheassbutt

    those are not even tight

u handled those lox COIls !!!!

AWESOME Job it used to take me a couple of days to do my daughters hair as well and they were hellah TIGHT the ones u did arent even tight because u MAINTAIN them on a regular >>>> DER ! oh and BTW ur daughter seemed to appreciate the favor ! now what ASSBUTT?

  • dreadcap.com also go 2 youtube and see dread cap review.

  • Ok, I saw the brand you used (sorry....

  • Hi, what did use as a pomade? What do you put on your hair when you get braid locks? How should I maintain it? Is it better to use the latch method or the twist method when hair needs re tightened? What kind of oils and other thing's do you use on her hair?

    Hair looks nice!

  • Beautiful. You are doing a wonderful job.

  • Hi - I commented on your other video, too. I have a few questions. I am the one w/ a 10 year old girl adopted from Haiti. I do her hair in 2strand twists. We both love the way it looks but it takes forever. Wanting to loc but her parts are kind of muddled & not clearly defined like yours. Should I take it out & re-twist (or better to braid?) & start over? Or do you think it is ok to keep going & keep twisting? Seems like all the videos I see there are very crisp part lines.

  • @twincitians hi I believe it's best, especially with a permanent hair style to do what is best the first time around even though it may be a bit time consuming. After all you will want the best style for your daughter that she will feel good wearing... as you would too if it were your own hair. Also as your daughter is 10 she is old enough to maybe have an opinion, if you educate her on the style options, as to whether or not she wants the permanency of locing vs. twisting. Be blessed :)

  • i wish i could do this to my hair. she is adorable :)

  • nevermind i wud sticK to using a comb...THIS LOOK LIKE IT TAKE FOREVER

  • So beautiful!! I'm a teacher and I see so many little girls with damaged hair due to poor maintenance, whether it be relaxed or natural. You've done a fantastic job. And she's such a lil cutie!!!

Question: Have you noticed that women/girl with natural hair tend to carry themselves with more class/dignity? I'm not trying to be a snob at all. It's just something I noticed/perceived. Wondering if anyone else did also.

  • I amount how many locks does she have?

  • @deanclkclk I couldn't even tell you, LOL I'd be lying if I did. One day I'll sit as I'm retightening and count them all.

  • Whoa, that is some neat work, I wish you could do my hair. My hair always unravel when palm rolling.

  • @luciano9009 Thank you. That was one of the reasons I didn't want to palm roll her hair because she is very active and likes to wash her hair, go swimming etc... so technique allows her to do all those things and it won't unravel.

  • I'm mad ur the one who had to tell her that it didn't hurt instead of her tellin u! LOL!

  • @Dante121892 LOL I didn't mean to pull it like that, I thought the band would slide right out. My poor baby!

  • beautiful parts

  • I just adopted a beautiful 2 year old and I have been searching for hairstyles for her and I love braidlocs....do you recommend them for a baby girl that young?

  • @ninamsmith You are her mother and you will do what you feel is best for her I am sure. I would not loc her hair at such a young age because her hair is still going through stages. A babies hair will change texture a few times before she is about 4-5 years old. She may gain more hair as she grows and then you'll end up with sparatic locs all over her head because her head and surface of the scalp is going to grow quite a bit before she is an adult.

  • how long did it take you to do her hair?

  • @skinnypinky The installation took me all day and the retightening took 2 days because we split it up into days to save my fingers and her butt from hurting from all that sitting.

  • Great Job

  • So when you started her braids, how many strands of hair did you use?

  • nice, where did u get that tool

  • Wow this looks more effective than the gel and clips method...might have to try this!

  • omg! i wish someone would have started mine like this...but i love my twisted locs..just incase later in life i can comb them out..my hair is soft enough to do so...but i don't ever plan on combing or cutting them! lol thanks for the video..i'm currently doing EVERYONE'S locs in all three of my neighborhoods. thanks babe! :o)

  • She's a cutie and her hair looks great! Mine are bigger but I love my braidlocs.

  • so your locking your baby hair????

  • She is beautiful and I love her hair,

  • her locks are pretty, how many locks does she have?

  • very nice. I have sisterlocks but am trying to learn some ways to maintain it myself. your daughters hair looks great!

  • I like the fact that you use some product during the process to get all the hair together. Makes it look a lot neater than some that I've seen.

  • what does her hair look like now?

  • Beautiful!

  • HI could you spell the name of the product and i didn't see on the side where her site was could you install a link that would really help me alot thanks so much

  • Looks time consuming but awesome job!!!!

  • Her hair looks real good you did a great job on it.

  • I was wondering if you could put a new follow up to the progress of her hair.

  • They look great.. can we get an update on her hair

  • They look great! I started my locks with braids 5 years ago..some advice: try not to tighten them too tight, after awhile I started to see breakage from using the latch, now I try to use it less, also she may have to combine them when they start to mature and get heavier, I have done this every few years now (it's not difficult but just a heads up).

  • Thank you for those of us who have to have things explained sllllloooowly...lol, this was great I have a daughter who is transitioning with box braids(her natural hair)and likes this look...

  • You dont want to over tighten her because it will break off, but a great job

  • Pleaase keep us updated on this process, and the growth. Im going to do this method, but im going to add a few inches via Kinky human hair. I cant wait im going to make a video and Show my journey as well... Thanks

  • that luk lyk it take a long tymm 6ut it workn i c....so which is 6etter? that 9rocess or tha 9all rolling with tha hair cli9 until dry 9rocces?

  • This process is better for people who are active and have to worry about the palm rolling locks unraveling. these don't unravel and can be washed as much as you need.

  • O my God, girl. You have no idea how big a help you have been to me. I have been trying to lock my daughter's hair for about 6 months now and they just have been a hot mess. I keep trying to figure out why they are not locking properly. You just solved the problem for me. Thank you so much.

  • so you started with small box braids?

  • Yes! I will be doing an update soon!

  • That was a very good demonstration. I get it now. I have been wanting to learn how to do this, but watching other folks explain, I just wasn't following. But good!

  • Very good mom, for so one who don't have much experience. I'm just wonder in a few years when she gets older and decides she wants something else, how do you take them down without cutting her hair off? Because my daughter will probly be at that point one day.

  • You Just Helped me out and you don't even know. I am sooooooooo greatful for this video

  • this may sound stupid but what exactly are braid locks??? are they braid that u just let lock up? also which do u think is easier to start?

  • Yup that is just what it is, braid it and let them lock, and the new grwoth can be twisted like regular locks or latched like you see in the vid.

  • @CoilsKinksCurls: Myu hair is kinda soft. Last time I tried locking it, it was ALMOST locked at 6 months. I had to take it down for an internship : ( but now that the internship is almost over I was looking for ways to lock my natural hair back up. Do my braids need to be secured at the ends...like with a bit of string? I also would like my locs to be the width of your daughter's (BEAUTIFUL!) Also can I retwist them instead of the latch method? Don't have anyone who knows how to do that THANKS!

  • ITS BEST TO START FROM AN AFRO

  • This is the best demonstration ive seen on here! Thanks for the post. Ive been growin my hair for over a year now and it really makes me confident about doin it now.

  • Your daughter locks are gorgeous.

  • Your daughters hair is beautiful. Will braidlocs work on relaxed hair if i micro braid it then just let the new growth keep getting retwisted? I really want locks but i dont want to cut off my relaxed hair to start them, so i just wanted to ask if this style of starting locks would work on my permed hair?? thanks =)

  • Yes you can have permed hair and start locks, the only thing is it will take longer for them to lock since you are not starting with natural/chemical free hair, and you already have length, but with patience and using the latching technique you can form locks.

  • @hehheh4 you will eventually have to cut off the permso do it now and get it over with...the permed hair will never loc

  • I never cut my daughter's relaxed hair - I let it grow out and it loc'd on its own in only a couple months after the relaxer grew out.

  • Yes this will work.

  • beautiful!

  • Her hair is BEAUTIFUL! :D

  • My name is Leon i want this style for my child can you please give me a call anytime. 419-310-7304

  • Hi Leon, I don't think it was the best thing to do, putting your phone number on here in public view. I will send you a PM!

  • lol Your right that wasnt the best idea. Did you start her locs?

  • You are sooo lucky! my daughter hates me touching her hair and yet it would be soo pretty on her! How did you convince yours to let you do it? More advice needed please!!!

  • These are so nice!!!My daughter has also asked to do locs. Did you start these with extensions? I so what kind of hair did you use?

  • that little girl is GORGEOUS!!! the locs really look nice , makes me want to try;)

  • Wow. I am beyond glad I found this video. I can't see it too well, but it's really hard to find a video actually showing braidloc maintenance. thank you for making this!!!

  • check mi video out and see if u mi twist to small and gone break off

  • GREAT GREAT JOB YOU'VE DONE!!......i luvd the demonstration..keep it up

  • OMG...how lovely is this??? I read another comment, but I tell you, her scalp doesn't look like it's being pulled tight like with micros. That baby would be CRYING! I'm GROWN and I CRIED!!

    She is beautiful.

  • Thank you so much! Yeah I know she is ok and that I am not tightening them too much! Yeah when I gt micros I was crying to, lol this is not even close. Thanks so much!!

  • her hair looks good u did a good job... but wat if she doesn want locs... its jus my opinion, that sum1 should chose to hav locs..well girls anyway..because boys(children) can simply cut them off n b done w them..no disrespect or anythn at all.. i think her hair looks great n if i had locs i would want them that size...

  • She does want the, I have a few videos up about my daughter asking for them, I finally decided to do them for her. I don't force any type of hair style on my daughters and I waited a year before I decided to install them. I made sure she was sure, and I was ok with it. She loves them!! Thanks so much for caring though!

  • I hear from people (that have relaxers) telling me that I should not have loc'd my 7 year old daughter's hair!! I explained to her many times what she was getting into, and like you - took time (2yrs) for both of us to consider the pros & cons of locing. I am so very glad we made the choice to do it! She has had hers since Aug 19, 2009. We are VERY excited about this journey...

  • I hate when people tell me to "perm" my daughters hair. Her hair is healthy and strong. Its just insanity.

  • omg shes so cute! great video! Im inspired!

  • How do you take them out???

  • she's cute :-) her hair is beautiful

  • Looks beautiful! Very lovely

  • in the long run you mite have to double those locks up because my mama did my sister hair like dat and the roots of them wer so small they broke off so you mite have to double them

  • I may have to, you are right, but palm rolled locks are the ones that thin out more than the ones maintained with a latch hook, requiring them to be doubled but if that does occur then I guess I'll have some extra work to do huh? LOL Thanks so much for your concern.

  • FYI it do hurt when you pull it lol my head has become so sensitive after locing. I love latch hooking but it feels like I just got micros when I get it done. Your daughter is beautiful! You are doing a beautiful job with your daughters hair!

  • Yes, after her hair was completely done I asked if her head was sore and she said yes so from now on I will make sure I am extra gentle on her little head.

  • You don't need to latch your new growth ALL THE WAY to the scalp. This can cause breakage and obviously, sore scalp.

  • I am not latching tight to the scalp, just close enough where he new growth is latched, believe me, it isn't as tight as you think it is.

  • Hi! I have braid locs, started in April. I want to start latching my new growth but Im not sure about the rotations. Where do I start latching?

  • I do a 3 point rotation so I start at 3 o'clock, then 6 o'clock, then end up at 9 o'clock. The 4 point rotation would be 12, 3, 6, then 9. You can start at whatever point you want but try and make sure you end up where you started on the last rotation. That is how I do it. I am going to make a more detailed video showing how to use the latch hook so you can better see, very soon.

  • Did you start her hair off with individual braids? The only way to take this out is to cut it since it is knotted, I assume?

  • Yes I started her locs with braids. With any type of locs, the hair gets knotted so just like any other type of locs they aren't easy to take down but it is doable if you have alot of time on your hands, LOL These will just be more controlled knots instead of the palm rolled one. I am not looking to remove them any time soon but if she does I will do it for her.

  • I love it, I cant wait to loc my daughters hair

  • they look great... i swear ppl who start with braids have alot of patience! they seem to take forever to lock!!!

  • lol yeah they do take s while but she has all the time in the world because she is so young. she has nothing but time, lol

  • beautiful :)

  • I use the same hook! I will have to start incorporating the 3-point routine

  • If you have a loose wave pattern instead of a tight coil then you should use the 4 point rotation instead because it will ensure that they don't loosen as time goes on. The tighter your curl pattern the less rotations you may need. There are other things that determine it but that is part of it.

  • wo this is sooo kool lol (not to sound corny) but ive been looking for a way to lock my hair without having to go thru long process with the unraveling and waiting to lock. this is soooo prefect, and my husband wants to lock his hair too. so how you start it is to just braid it first then start to hook it? and how do you know when to start using the hook? thanks! the vid was great!

  • This is one of the reaons I did it this way with my daughters hair because it is low maintenance. Thay are basic box braids and when left in they will lock on their own. When the new growth comes in I just use the hook to latch the new growth.!/2 inch of growth is good to start latching but it is your preference. I retighten every 2 months.

  • Her braidlocz are perfect! I love the size and look of them and i'm even more excited to see her so happy to embrace her napps. Your works is outstanding and I wanted to say Kudos mom!

  • Thank you so much!! I did them small enough where she could still do the little girly styles she likes so much like pig tails and curling the ends with rollers. Her friends love her hair and even inspired her grandmother to loc her hair as well!! Crazy!!

  • her hair looks really pretty. but are those braids tha your lettin turn into dreds?

  • Yes they are, they are called braid locs. They will lock just like any other lock and basically look like sister locks once they are matured. This is a very easy way yo start your locs because they don't unravel and you can wash them as often as you need to without having to retwist. Very low maintenance, especially since she is a child this works well cause we all know kids can be hard on their hair.

  • Amazing Job! Her locks are beautiful

  • U did a great job. I'm locing my boyfriends hair and he won't let me get close to his hair with a hook. :(

  • LOL aww, tell him that if you use this method that he'll be able to wash his hair when ever he wants without having to retwist each time because these don't unravel. That usually sells it to them especially if they work out or go to the gym a lot and need to wash often.

  • how often do you re-tighten your daughters hair & how lfar along is her locks?

  • About every 2 months, she is still in the begining stages of her locs. Only a few months along. Check out the first video of when her baby locs were installed.

  • My gosh, that's a lot of maintenance for a lock!! Lawd....I'll leave that to a professional, which is you. LOL

  • LOL

  • You've got skills!

  • Her hair (and your daughter) are adorable! You did such a wonderful job on her hair (as if you wouldn't, you absolutely ROCK!)

    Great vid!

  • WOW!!! You make that look so easy!!

  • Beautiful job!
