I'm from Surinam. The biggest problem in the US is not speaking Spanish it is Hispanic kids are not becoming fluent in English. They have high dropout rates and are condemed to poverty. I have nothing against Hispanics but in the US poor people speak Spanish. My parents spoke to me in Crole and my English is poor and that has hurt my whole life here in the US. You'll never know what hell is like until you try getting a good job with horrible accent. Study English and speak it without an accent

I am in the same boat as you. I am puerto rican and we call is spanglish. My parents didn't even try to teach me Spanish. I was also turned down for jobs the same reason. They would see my last name and assume I spoke was fluent in Spanish. I am still interested in learning. Goodluck.
