  • damn those plastic finger tips!! they make this song extremely hard to imitate! haha

  • NICEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!

  • which in turn he could recieve royalties for these off hand songs. IM the biggest black sabbath fan in the world, my favorite band, i hold no ill grudge for ozzy doing this because in all honesty i dont think it was him....make no bones about it sharon arden(don ardens daughter) is a shark and she will kill and execute with shock and owe to get money, the apple dont far from the tree, if you dont know what i mean look up some of the history of this band and the shit they went through

  • Maybe not this show, but it 100% true... FACT: Tony Iommi holds all rights for the name "Black Sabbath", FACT: Alot of these cuts they have of early songs are sealed away or where as most have been "leaked", whether its a vault or an igloo cooler it does not matter, FACT: With owning the name BLACK SABBATH tony owns everything that bears there names and his personel collection of vinyls and accetates far excedes anything on here FACT: Ozzy did sue Tony to have name rights,

  • @MistyMorning60

FACT: Your original argument (that Tony is the only one who has this recording) was wrong, and I was merely correcting that. The lawsuit has everything to do with owning the name, but as far as old recordings, Ozzy already had rights to release those (one example would be the Sabbath tracks on the compilation album 'The Ozzman Cometh')

Owning the Sabbath name just insures that no one besides Iommi can tour under that name. It has nothing to do with old Sabbath recordings.

  • @blacksabfan

In addition, the lawsuit was also over royalties and merchandise sales related to the 90s Reunion and several Ozzfest tours. Not old demos or anything like that. Nothing in any of the published documents regarding the lawsuit was there anything about royalties regarding old recordings. Nothing.

So don't sit there and scream "FACT" in my face like I don't know what I'm talking about.

  • @MistyMorning60 technacly sharon sued tony, ozzy isn't "smart" enough too.

  • Its not Ozzy that has any of this material...Tony has it all locked up in a vault, thats why Ozzy was sueing Tony over rights to the name "black sabbath" so that he could then release and market some of there unreleased tunes under the black sabbathh/ozzy name....its really sharon tho, what a money whore

  • @MistyMorning60

That's not true. Sharon actually contacted the person who taped this show and offered an undisclosed sum for the promise that no further copies would be circulated. She may have also, possibly (I'm not certain) acquired the tapes of the show. Their lawsuit had nothing to do with old material locked away in any vault.

  • @MistyMorning60 The lawsuit you are referring to is not Ozzy acquiring the rights for himself, it was for equal distribution of the rights to all four original sabbath members (geezer, ward, iommi, Ozzy). I believe that lawsuit has been settled or is about to be settled with all four in agreement to share the rights equally.

  • Okay... I just compared them and they are the same... Ozzy says the EXACT same things on both boots... They are just mixed a little bit different...

  • No... I have Black Sabbath's first recording... 8/6/1969... If you want it I can send it to you...

  • @mrdeersniper

That is the infamous "Live at Plumpton" bootleg, which is an incorrect date and venue. It is really another rework of the fairly common, 26 Jun 1970 gig at Berlin.

The earliest known Sabbath gig in existence is from the above show, and has been only selectively circulated, and will most likely remain that way.

  • @blacksabfan Oh ok... Thanks for telling me... I will compare them though considering I have both of the shows... can you please send me the whole show via E-mail... We can trade... I can send you a txt. file with all of my bootlegs... Ozzy solo and Black Sabbath...

  • @mrdeersniper

    FUCKING SEND THEM TO ME!

    PLEASE MR DEER SNIPER

  • weren't they called Earth before

  • Ozzy's sharing Robert Plant's 1969 hair.

  • great post, much appreciated. Black Sabbath reached back to the Blues and jumped forward to Heavy Metal, if you see what I mean.

  • some people call this a rehersal track but you can hear the crowd talking on some parts. awesome track

  • yeah they put this on their 1969 demo

  • nothing better than sabbath exellent post

  • fantastic..thanks!

  • Thanks for posting this music....I've been a Black Sabbath (Ozzy as lead singer) fan for many years...and it's great when I hear them play something in blues...I only wish they would come out with an album with all their blues stuff.

  • what you guys think, is tony playing a strat here, or the single-coil Sg?

  • @originaltbyrd - Gibson SG (I was there that night).....

  • the 1969 demos is mostly sabbath but the song Thomas James is not Sabbath its some jazz fusion band i cant think of the name though

  • yeah I hear the TYA/Alvin Lee comin' thru but still hear Iommis' uniqueness too..I remember all the urban legend guitar duels Alvin Lee was supposed to always get into live...I say Iommi could take him even just with his psycho bends....very cool stuff, thanks for posting it.....seems only the OG generation remembers Sabbath started out as a blues band...again great stuff,Thnx.Rock on "Earth!!"

    .

  • lol my mum was 7 then :L i cant even work out how many years it was before i was even born lmao

  • Ozzy's a bluesman.

  • cool, i'd been alive for 7 months

  • i was negative 10 :)

  • how much would YOU pay for the complete dumfries?

  • much of the best rare stuff belongs to Sabbath

  • hope i don't offend anyone, but this has a great Alvin Lee/TYA vibe to it. If it's not too much trouble, blacksabfan, could you hunt down some old TYA stuff?

  • Glad Sabbath didnt become a blooze band. "The Writ Blues" ? "Sweat Leaf Blues"? Nah.

  • True, but there Heavy sound does owe a lot to the blues.

  • Paranoid Blues, The Iron Man Blues

  • well without her he would have died a long time ago

  • Probably wouldn't of been a bad thing; he wouldn't of destroyed his legacy in the past 10 years if he was dead.

  • true

  • very true

  • @blacksabfan if you can sing better when you're 61, come back and say that again...

  • @ozzyrox666

The destruction of his legacy has nothing to do with his singing ability, although people do use that as a minor point. I'm more disturbed with his wife's lust for money, and the lengths she goes to achieve her means. That's destroying it. Suing Iommi, erasing Daisley and Kerslake's contributions so they don't have to pay them royalties. All this TV bullshit. That's how you destroy a legacy. Not being able to sing is NOT why I have a hard time listening to Ozzy.

  • @blacksabfan ok, i'm just sick of hearing others moaning on, soz. can't deny ur points in any way..

  • @ozzyrox666

So your solution to counter the "moaning" done by others is to "moan" yourself? That's brilliant... Besides, I didn't see much bitching about Ozzy's voice on this upload as I have some of my other ones. The comments here are mostly positive...so I'm not sure why you brought it up to begin with.

  • @blacksabfan aww shadup mr grumpy and enjoy the song =) youtube arguements are a sad thing...

  • @ozzyrox666

What the fuck are you on about? First off, I posted this. I could just take it down and then you wouldn't have the privledge of enjoying it. You should be thanking me, not bitching at me. Second of all, I'm not "arguing", I'm just making the point that your post was quite ironic and hypocritical. Lastly, I'm not the one bitching and moaning about how Ozzy is being mistreated here. That's you...

So please, do everyone a favor and fuck off.

  • Actually been wanting to hear the non-edited version of SOTD. I did read also the the taper of this show sold it to the osbourne's.....bummer.

  • black&blues

  • This is so cool.. Iommi plays like Clapton !

  • Have you guy's read the book 'HOW BLACK WAS OUR SABBATH; An unauthorized view from the crew'.

This period in time is well covered!!

  • wow, i absolutely love how black sabbath was all about the blues. Makes me smile. They where so sick back then, 1970-73 best years for sabbath but 69 is just great but you don't ever hear anything from the 60s from sabbath. It's a shame. I love it though.

  • well they didn't really record in the 60's

  • Sabbath recorded their debut album from August-November 1969. It wasn't released until February 13, 1970.

In fact, at the time of this recording, the debut album was probably close to done.

  • -from what I've always heard the first album was recorded in two consecutive days (two 6 hour sessions), by the way thanks a lot for posting this here -I can actually hear the bass for once and although Ozzys vocals are slightly distorted it works well since at this time his voice was like a third instrument with a nasally almost baritone edge to it.

    Have a great day

  • If you havn't already, check out the rare Mythology videos posted. It is the earliest roots of Black Sabbath you can find which featured Iommi and Ward. Definitely heavy blues.

  • You do know their debut was record in 69, right?

  • Nice find! At 1:20, 1:40 and even more times Tony uses a trick he pulled out of his hat for "Fairies Wear Boots"...just goes to show the depth of the performers. Many songwriters and musicians use things they've come up with years prior in the most interesting places. Fairies Wear Boots wasn't even thought of at this time, yet a memorable guitar lick that eneded up there is also here. Absolutely amaging...you can hear the blues in later matierla because it's in songs like THIS!

  • Anyone know where I can find the original version of the top pic on the boot cover

  • Yup. Polka tulk Jazz and blues Band were their first name ;)

  • dude! I think Black Sabbath STARTED as a Blues band...

  • You're right!...they were originally called EARTH..but there was another band of the same name and club promoters kept mistaking ozzy and co. for the other EARTH therefore changing the name to BLACK SABBATH..That's why there's alot of blues influence in Tony's playing..that's what they grew up on

  • almost rite. they went from earth, to blues band earth, then to black sabbath.

  • no EARTH started as a bues band

BLACK SABBATH name was formed when they turned heavy metal

  • It's not quite that simple. Bands don't just change their name and go "Ok guys, we are going to completely change our sound now, too." The song Black Sabbath was first played when the band was still known as Earth, and Black Sabbath (the band) was still playing blues covers (such as this song, Blue Blooded Man, and etc). The band recorded "The Wizard" when they were still Earth, but still played "Blue Suede Shoes" when they were Black sabbath. See my point? Bands evolve.

  • @Shadowrikky your right i saw a documentary on youtube and he'd said he started playing blues but didn't like it.

  • @Shadowrikky no duh,"POLKA TULK BLUES BAND" kind of hints that -_-

  • i can't found this song

    i want to buy it!!

  • I love everybody on this page for loving black sabbath good to know there is still a bunch of fans out there. im only 20 and sabbath is what ive listen to since i can rember in my life. and thats crazy that someone as young as me knows what its all about LONG LIVE SABBATH> and finally we get to here this and the rebel and stuff FUCKIN AWESOME. !!!!

  • @caligaris27 Totally agree! I was 14 when I first heard "We Sold our Souls for Rock and Roll"... hooked from that day forth! That was 12 years ago... shame it wasn't 4O odd years ago.

  • @pjeball you're alive now enjoy yourself!

  • Thanks for posting this song. I have never, ever even heard of this song. Outstanding!!

  • auntie also went to this gig :O:O she did ave a recording tho but broke . fucking sux cause really is class!

  • born and lived in dumfries all my life.. the gig was at the lorbourne hall just up the town .. walked past it last night n worshiped it for like a hour lmao .. but theirs like ONLY a few people with casette recording of the gig n they've been offered thousands for it .

oh yeh n earth formed/played in carlisle bout 30 miles from where i am ( dumfries )

  • Listening to this you really begin to see what talented musicians Tony, Geezer, Bill and Oz really are. TOO talented to be boxed into the blues genre forever; you canhear them breaking out of the "blues box" as they play. It's almost sad to me though because they could have been a much more progressive band with that kind of talent than to just going extremely hard rock. And even though they invented the genre now dubbed "metal" and it's exciting and all, one wonders what truly could have been!

  • Comment removed

  • I would kill for this entire show.

God, was I ever born at the wrong time.. Maybe I'll still be alive by the time Time Machines are invented...

  • do u have the rest of this show?

  • No. I wish I did.

  • One more magical moment of my favorit band...

  • DUDE!!! I do not know how the hell you come up with these rare songs, but hats off to you for finding this. This is white gold!!! This is some rare shit. I downloaded this for myself. Thanks for finding im subscribing to you.

The Bluesy riffs are flawless, there is no mistaking Tonys unique style. And of course, yknow thats Ozzys bluesy early vocal style from his first 3 albums.

  • Nobody has commented on how great Iommi sounds in this blues context. This is why he was and continues to be able to compose such emotional and memorable solos - he has such solid blues roots. Wow, blues with the trademark Iommi trill-like hammer-ons and pull-offs and that weird under bending. He is undeniably a simple player, but I can recognize him in just a couple of notes. That's the sign of greatness. Thanks for putting this up!

  • Hey Blacksabfan, I was wondering if you know what year it is when they played Blue Suede Shoes?

  • rugmans was the building on irish street

  • Would you mind if I converted this into .MP3 format for myself?

  • No. Go for it.

  • BlackSabFan, sir, you're a master.

  • They called at this Time Earth or Sabbath?

  • Black Sabbath, without a doubt.

  • It's a cover of the Elmore James' song. Sabbath a few covers at the Dumfries show, as well as Song for Jim, N.I.B., Wicked World, Black Sabbath, and a few other early songs. A true mix of what had been Earth and the beginning of Black Sabbath.

  • Apparently they used to play in the basement of one of the buildings along Irish Street, or so I was told when I worked in Dumfries

  • Oh god!!!! Why won't Ozzy or Sharon or whoever release these old gems! They'd be amazed by just how many fans would buy it. I know that Iommi in particular does't want any of this stuff to be heard. Let us fans have what we want!

  • I don't understand why they don't want this stuff to be heard.. Are they embarrassed by it or something? Because I know this is definitely nothing to be embarrassed by

  • I guess it is how the artist hears his own work. I know for a fact they wern't to thrilled about that blue suede shoes clip years ago.

  • Sabbath rules!!!

  • AWESOME!!!

  • How Come Sharon's Hogging all that stuff? Like, is she going to DO something with it or what?

  • This is indeed a Gem!

    :-)

  • BlackSabFan, you are a legend!!! A million thanks for yet another fantastic bit of old Sabbath that you've dug up for us, keep it up, man!

  • Awesome! thanks for posting

  • No. I was not one of the "lucky fans".

  • OZZY PLEASE RELEASE ALL THAT FUCKING STUFF!!!

(please copy and paste this everywhere, maybe Ozzy see that!!!)

  • How would he know what "stuff" you're refering to?

  • all those fucking rare and golden songs!!! what else could i refer to???

  • But then we might end up with a '5th time remastered' "Paranoid" CD...probably without these rare tracks that are supposed to be on it...if it actually comes out...

  • Well, how is he supposed to know that? Look, sorry if I offended you in any way. I was just asking you an honest question.

  • Very cool - thanks for sharing. Maybe someday someway we will get the footage to the whole gig...that'll be great.

  • Great song! it seems like old Rock&Roll blues is following me around, i hear it everywhere

  • awesome.

  • Nice!!

  • thanks a ton man, i hadnt heard any of their pre 1970 stuff til now

  • Iommi's blasting out some VERY cool blues chops here. And anyone who thinks that Ozzy can't sing, needs to listen to this, he's got a damn good blues voice. Blacksabfan has found yet another winner!

  • Nice rhythm'n'blues/blues-rock :D

  • Thanks for posting! What the hell is Sharon and Ozzy holding all this stuff back for?!

At any rate, while this recording might have been taken while they were Black Sabbath, this is very likely the kind of material they were playing as Earth.

  • Yep, it was their transition period. Sabbath played songs like "Black Sabbath", an alternate version of "N.I.B", "Warning" and "Wicked World", but also played some covers like "Blue Blooded Man", and other songs like "A Song for Jim", with Iommi playing flute. Some lucky people out there have the whole show, and I'd love to hear it.

  • Knowing Ozzy, he probably thinks it's "fucking crap" (most artists think this of their early work) and Sharon hasn't figured out the right amount to charge for it.

  • Thanks a lot, BlackSabFan, keep these gems coming!!

  • Cool, man

  • Never heard that one, thanks.

  • OMFG this is great!!!

  • Great upload!

  • Fantastic stuff.
