  • This is SO not going to work with our canary. As soon as he notices me looking at him, he stops whatever he is doing (singing, jumping around, just hanging around...) and starts breathing real hard. But I love him nonetheless :)

Maybe if I include something to eat...

  • this is not working if i get close to him hell just fly away

    please helppppp

  • hi everybody , i hand tame my canary but some times he bits me.What should i do??

  • *YOUR

  • i have a little canary 10 months old i got him when he was 5 months old he is mostly used to me more then anyone else basically he is terrified of everyone except me and my parents he is not afraid when i bring my face close to him but when i bring me hand close to him slowly he will move a bit and then he will fly away like he thinks im playing a game with him he hops around in his cage waiting for my hand to come towards him and he keeps moving away i don't know what to do any suggestions?

  • ughh do you know how to hand tame a canary IN the cage? whel at least i have a amazon parrot not trained, i saw her on a tree in my grandmothers garden so my dad brought a hose shooting at it, cuz the amazon was on a tall tree . then it fell down to the ground , but luckily it wasint hurt and we brought a big cage for her , and i know that she is a girl cuz every time my uncle comes SHE GOES WACKO but now she gets used to me and i hand tamed her , feed her chillies ( her favorite ) .

  • well just to let you know your bird seemed a little mad every time you lifted it

  • @superpuppyist I've seen a Canary mad before, no he wasn't mad in the video.

  • @zimri19 You're not using capital letters. You're talking about grammar? Hilarious, absolutely hilarious.

  • @ArseTang Ikr?

  • @ArseTang because capital letters are redundant and don't affect the meaning of a word, the difference between you're and your does change the meaning.

  • @zimri19 Still, you shouldn't try to act like a know-it-all when your grammar isn't exactly correct. Gotta love blowhards like you.

  • When the persons stroking it it looks to say piss off. Good movie though

  • @zimri19 Well, I made this when I was 10 years old, and at the time had some trouble with the whole "Your" and "You're" words.

  • you're mean you are. and your is the word you're looking for in most of your sentences. bad grammar.

  • @zimri19 Well, I'm sorry you don't like my grammar. I would appreciate it if you would not comment rude things like that.

  • arent you supposed to keep them in the cage and just get them used to being next to you inside the cage THEN get them used to your hand by sticking your hand in the cage, then let him out and continue building trust? i know thats what you do with parakeets, is it different with finches?

  • @gottaluvbirds Yes, this is also a very good technique. I didn't add that in the video in the first place because I was still somewhat of a novice at teaching birds how to be hand tame.

  • @gottaluvbirds these birds are very territorial so if u try it theyll lose trust for u u have to let them out even though theyll probly fly around like a mofo sometimes its the best.

  • CUTE BIRD

  • @MONKEYBONG22 Thank you. :)

  • how muchdoes a canary cost?

  • @imuzaq1 i think something like $15-$30

  • @imuzaq1 I got my Canary for 60$, it really depends on the place you buy it from.

  • I put a video of mine lol. My bird is like crazy, I always grab him and he starts bitting lol, but to get him on my finger by calling him with a sign or something that still isn't working, so I only put a finger under his chest then he stands on it. By the way, canaries are addicted to mirrors (I think) because they freaking go crazy when they see a reflection of another bird lol, like mine, sometimes he goes light crazy sometimes he goes insane crazy lol.

  • @Tranzorr Yeah...if he's biting you the best thing to do is ignore it. Yes Canaries do actually think there is another Canary next to them when they see mirrors. :)

  • @TheBricksterable lol yeah I just let him, makes me laugh haha.

  • hi, the video is amazing, when i put my finger in the cage, my canary flies to other side. i think he needs a long time to be accustomed to me because i bring him to my house last monday. Am I right ? thanks

  • Will this work with other types of finches, too?

  • i was trying for ages with my canary but it never worked cuz he flew away everytime i came near him. he seemed petrified of me. now he eats outa my hand and land sometimes 10 cm from me but... u know, he still wont trust me as much. i made a mistake after i got him, i grabbed him twice and 3 times i was chasing him around cuz i didnt know ur not supposed to... id say he still remembers that :/ oOops

  • Thank you thank you!!!!! this video is amazing! i am impressed it worked from the very first hour!!! my canary "Lady Pica" now she loves my hand!! i recommend it for everyone!! but it didn't work for my male canary "Cou Cou"! Thanks alot! :D

  • @djramiskos Haha, your welcome. That is very impressing, it usually takes about a month or two to master!

  • @TheBricksterable Well i have not mastered it yet but its fine and today i tamed the other male canary and it also worked.. but i still need some time to master it!

  • @TheBricksterable well you should try scratching it on its chest near its feet!!

  • Is it easier to hand tame it at a younger age, or does any age work?

  • @mafatu32 Any age can work, but not all of the time.

  • hahah hes like a glue in the end

  • Hey,

I'm doing the tips you said, but it is not working. I need help

  • @XaviHernadezFan Well, sometimes Canaries can be untamable. Just keep trying but if he's getting scared, leave him alone.

  • @TheBricksterable Thanks, but how do we know if the canary is male or female?

  • do canaries bite hard?

  • @xXbudgielvrXx Depends on the Canary.

  • Hi, I got an untamed canary, he will eat from my hand, I let him fly around my house he does have a comfortable spot where he relaxes and all , i can slightly approach him but when i get my hand near his chest he flies away, pls help me i really would appreciate it, also he does not have clipped wings, pls help i really need your help! but also when his in his cage i can sit next to it and put my hand near it!!

P.S you are a great tamer and your canarys adorable!! >_<

  • if u are taming canarys u better do it before they are adults

  • but is it posibull that i cane tame my canary or is he to territorial?

(I'am sorry for my bad english)

  • My canary is 8 months and he is very hyper he like to play with his toys but when i have some pice apple in my fingers he eats but when my apple in my fingers goes in the cage he fly around in the cage like a freak what cane i do to tame my sweet bird but i'am to afraid to let fly him in the hous ( sorry for my bad english i'am dutchs pleas give my tips)

  • @dimma1997 He's just perhaps, a very territorial bird. Birds sometimes don't like it when you enter their cage. Much like how you wouldn't like it if a giant hand came into your house without any reason why!

  • @dimma1997 Well, it depends how long you've had him, if he's had any injuries, if he's still a baby...many various possibilities.

  • when i try to do this with my canary, he just flyes away!!!!!!!!

  • do you think canaries are moody birds?

mine once jumped onto my hand to reach her treat...

but nowadays she hesitates more and becomes anxious when i put my hand inside her cage...

oh god what did i do wrong??? T_T

  • @9raymondo9 Actually they do change over time. How old is your Canary? If it's over 8 years old, this is common. As birds get older their personalty changes because they are more frail and afraid of just about everything. If this is a young bird, you may have done something that made it hesitate. It could be that you haven't had close contact with it in a while too.

  • @TheBricksterable actually she's still young...

currently she's about 6 weeks old now. and i got her eversince she's 1 month old.

i guess i just have to start over huh?

  • @TheBricksterable actually she's still a kid.

still 6 weeks old currently. i got her from 1 month old.

the first 2 weeks went well, but now she's freaked out...

i guess i have to start over eh?

  • My canary never lets me come that close, please help :(

  • @nitnatish Sorry, but Canaries cannot be "toilet" trained. There is no way to control their blatter, birds have to deficate or "poop" every 5-10 minutes.

  • That did not work on my canaries.

  • this made me lol XD. i liked it, though

  • hey mate nice bird there when my canary is on my hand for about 3 seconds it fly's away? why is thta

p.s there is no cats or dogs in my house

  • @fujies69 Well, it's still learning probably. It will take time, just keep doing so.

  • hey mate nice bird there

my canery when my canary is on my hand for about 3 seconds it fly's away?

p.s there is no cats or dogs in my house

  • what do you do if your cansry is too scared?

can you still train it to come on your hand?

  • @zubairbawa If the Canary is too scared, try weeks later. If it still doesn't seem to be working, just stop.

  • thanks for giving me the advice, i really need it.

  • if its possible for the canary to NEVER learn to be tamed, why bother to try?

    p.s. FYI=FOR UR INFORMATION

  • @marebear113098 Stupid questions are not allowed here.

  • if i am a canary?

  • @bryeinsteinmc2 THEN GET OUTTA HERE

  • i´ve had my canary for about 6 months now and i think he was about 2 months old when i got him and yet i cant even come near him, the closest i´ve come to him is probably 5cm or 2inches

  • @Mackaveli7 Well, give him time, he seems kinda young to be given to you.

  • @TheBricksterable perhaps but i take good care of him

  • whats FYI mean ?

  • Thanks, this helped me very much

  • for me it took around 2-3 weeks to tame him xD I have fistly practiced with him in the cage where my zebra finches are when they were out of the cage he learned to sit on my finger in the cage and, I can grab him now without any problem because he learned that when I grab him nothing happens :P btw.. his name is Soren I have found him outside in the cold :[

  • my canary is 6 weeks old :D

it already stands on my hand.

i believe its better to tame them when their young because, while they are young they learn fast.

  • @HELLBURNZZ Great, but sometimes young Canaries may have a panic attack from being too scared.

  • @TheBricksterable they get used to u

the scariest stem for them is the first time =]

  • I hope this works for parakeets too! I just got a new one

  • @Miagirl33 It should, Parakeets are much like Canaries.

  • took my new canary a week :3

  • how do i get it out of its cage by itself? and back in? its like impossible to me!!! plus my canary poops everywhere lol

  • thank you for the advice our canary was very afraid she Came out of a retirement home and we think that perhaps people were not kind to her

  • I trained my canary by offering it sweet fruits squeezing it in between the bars on its cage and left it there. Then i used my hand to hold the fruit outside the bars so the bird seems my hand by the fruit but isn't to afraid to approach it cuz im still outside the cage. Then i let it out of its cage and it didn't want to go too far n once it got comfy sumwhere i kept offering it the fruit until it felt comfy feeding in my hand and eventually would fly to my hand to eat it. =)

  • Where did u buy that canary. It is so beautiful.

  • CONFIDENTIAL.

  • @TheBricksterable I think canarys ar a girft from heaven but I think budgies are better since they actually like humans a lot

  • @sammymunir Both types of animals are very pleasurable. I would suggest you re-think that statement, Canaries are more scared than Budgies are.

  • What a great advice: tame you bird by stroking it's neck. I don't know if you've seen birds that are NOT tame, but they will usually fly away if you approach them way before you would have chance of even thinking about catching them. Or if they are in a cage they will fly around in panic as soon as you insert your hand. They may temporarily settle in the most remote corner of the cage, but as soon as you move your hand again the panic continues. This should be step 10 on how to tame a canary.

  • wow thanks! I'm gonna tell my dad to practice this. He's crazy about his canaries. I just hope the birds will feel comfortable.

  • The song was ideal for the footage and the timing was perfect.

  • we have a canary here and have had him almost two years. My fourteen year old daughter hand tamed him from the first week we had him. He comes out of his cage a few times every day. He has a bird tower in the nearby window and loves to watch the garden birds. He will sit on your shoulder, give kisses and eats from your hand. When he's tired he goes back into his cage on his own...

  • what age must the canary so its ok for me to try these methods?

  • @Zulfi37 At least a year old.

  • im dutch and my english is very bad but when i do my hand in the cage than my canary fly around he is than crazy and what i cane do that he stay on his stick when my hand is going in the cage pleas help my and if you cane dutch pleas see it in dutch but english is already oke.

    ThX for help.

  • @damienk1b This is probably because your putting your hand in the cage, what you should do, is take him to a dim lighted small area such as a bathroom, and lift off the top of his cage to let him out.

  • @TheBricksterable

but im scared that he dont get back in his cage.

how cane i take him out of his cage his cage is very big and he fly from stick to stick how i cane take him out of his cage.

  • @TheBricksterable but im scared that he dont get back in his cage

  • @TheBricksterable but what cane i do if he dont get back is his cage there im scared for.

  • are you sure that he get back in his cage what i cane do when he dont get back in his cage.

  • @TheBricksterable are you sure that he get back in his cage what cane i do when he dont get back in his cage.

  • @damienk1b Then I would not try this.

  • My canary flies to the back of the cage right when I get close to him.... He does know I am his friend and all (He actually eats when I do, drinks when I do) and if his food is out he will tell me... but when I change the food he knows that I will do no harm to him, he still flies to the back of the cage.

When I get him out of the cage he flies around like he's gone insane... and it is usually hard to get him back in the cage, he always seems to fly at the window though... Why can't I do this :(

  • Its ok, your bird is probably very frightened of the outside world, probably not you, but there are a few questions I need to ask,

    1. What space are you in when letting him out, how big is it?

    2. How long have you has him?

    3. Are you approaching slowly?

    4. have you tried hand feeding him? IN THE CAGE?

    5. Do you have any other pets such as dogs or cats?

  • No other pets;.. I have been letting him out in my own room, and I keep all dangerous places covered up - Under the bed, closet, etc; I have had him for 4 years now (he was 6 months old when we got him); I always approach him slowly; I have tried to hand feed him in the cage - he just doesn't like my hand in the cage and tries to get as far away as possible, I tried to hide my hand and my self when handfeeding, but it still doesn't work... He does sing with me though - when he is in the mood :)

  • He sings to loud noises like a vacuum (As most canaries do), He sings to people clapping on the television; He lives in the kitchen (the fumes don't bother him)

He seems to be very curious of the birds right outside of the kitchen window - tried to call out for them since he can see and hear them singing and flying around...

  • Good, nothing wrong with that, but I warn you, the reason he sings to the vacuum or television is because he is irritated.

  • Good, good...

  • The only thing that happened that is bad in his life is that 3 years ago he most likely broke his finger on one of his legs when we were moving - he got stuck in his own nest and hung upside down for a few seconds before we rescued him. We did not bring him to a vet; he stopped singing for a while, but he became OK with it (though he can hardly bend that finger now)

It happened because his nails were too long, and we haven't cut them until a year after the incident...

  • There's your problem, that probably has caused major trauma, I recommend waiting a few years before trying this video out.

  • When I was young I had a canary that was tame like this.

It even fell asleep on top of my head while I was watching tv.

  • Yeah, Canaries can be very loyal if you treat them with respect.

  • My canary!!! he well never in his LIFE...well even try to cut his feather for me to touch it!!!

  • this song is called funky town xD

  • thanks that was quite useful i'll try it with my birdies

  • whats the name of this song?

my canary seems to like it LOL
