  • Their voices sound the same

  • Aww...I miss these days... <3

  • this kid has serious split personality trouble

  • LanceHertford, what on earth are you talking about? This song has nothing to do with the government, it's a song for preschoolers.

  • my name is jew

  • what's with all the ugly kids? wtf..

  • @kingocto yeah i dunno O_o i guess it teaches people not to be shallow is my only guess.

  • @Angelsbaby42 I guess it did a horrible job cause I still feel shallow O.--

  • @kingocto well i agree with you lol i can be shallow at times ;o

  • we all sing so far from this song

  • old school sesame street was the best...this overblown elmo drives me crazy.

  • OMG AT MY SCHOOL I HAVE TO SING THIS SONG :C

  • One World Government Socialist Propaganda

  • Kk mI

  • y'know it's amazing that a song so simple and innocent evokes a sense of unity and harmony this world so desperately needs.

  • I loved this song as a kid and now my baby loves it, too. :-) Thank you Sesame Street for producing quality entertainment that parents know are safe to allow their kids to watch.

  • Joeywormer, if I spelled that wrong sorry, the kid doesn't have two names. The song is about how no matter what the differences are between people are we are all people and we all deserve the same respect. The song talks about how no matter what a person's name is or what country he comes from we all liv on this earth together. I hope that clears things up for you.

  • Wonder what some of these kids are doing nowadays. Probably a couple of CEO's and computer programmers in there.

  • Yo a

  • yes, its from the 80s

  • so when is this song from? the 80's??

  • I loved this song so much as I child. It's one of my best childhood memories. All about different cultures. It sounds perfect as a childrens' song and should be sang at school for them.

  • "My name is Jack and Fred"? How does that kid have two names?

  • @davincent98...or it could be 'i've got one daddy' 'i've got too'??

but...i love this song...i remembered all the words despite watching this over 23 years ago...

  • YES! Back when Playground Equipment Was Normal and Fun!! Back When People were more friendly laid back and not so paranoid about Everything! Back when parents let their kids out to play and get some exercise! Back when there was something called Communities, Families, Well Funded Schools, Love, and discipline for children. Back when our culture and music was still good! Back when kids were still Kids!! Back when etc etc!!! Back when there was TUBE SOCKS!!! :) ha ha!!

  • @Blahbevava yea those old playground equip were awesome! then the safety team came in and took it all away! ;(

  • @Angelsbaby42 yea..I remember when they took them out of my home town at some point in the early 90s. Fortunately you can still find some of these older playgrounds still in use in smaller towns. I played on one with my boy not too long ago and it still has the huge metal sun-burning slides, Swings,..Merry Go Round with no speed limiter!!..and Everything!! :)

  • @Blahbevava even seesaws?? i loved those! now my niece is like 'whats a seesaw?' O_O

  • @Angelsbaby42 Unfortunately No :(...It's my guess that the wood probably rotted out on those at some point. Oh well...

  • OMFG Look at the ginger one and the weird blonde one with parachutes for ears!

  • This is my FAVOURITE Seaseme street song! :) This show brings back SO many memories! Kerri

  • YAY!!!

  • It should be required that students sing this at school everyday. It's just so perfect.

  • :( Oh, to be a kid again

  • At the time it wud've meant your parents divorced and you got a stepfather hence 2 dads. But now we argue over the implications of a gay marriage. LOL.

  • @QSalmissra I doubt it. It means exactly what it is suppose to mean.

  • @QSalmissra lol i know right?! i started to chuckle a little after hearing that. I know its immature but since it was the 80's i wasn't sure if it meant hers were divorced and had a step dad or her dad went gay.

  • all the kids DO have the same voice!

  • I would love to see all these kids now, 30 years later all grown up.

  • MY BABY LOVES THIS SONG!

  • This reminds me of the Smash Mouth, and song from "Bridge to Teribethia," "Why can't we be friends?"

  • ('I have 1 dad & I've got 2') 2 dads - This most likely means that the kid has a biological father & mom remarried - so she has a stepfather!

  • @spanrish And what, exactly, is wrong with it meaning that they have gay fathers? The song is about acceptance...so it should be looked at with that mindset, not one that tries to block out anything that could possibly mean something "offensive" -.-' If it does mean gay fathers, go Sesame Street for letting kids know it's ok to not bully and make fun of the kid who has gay parents.

  • I know! Might have meant one step-father and one biological father but still--Sesame Street has always been so progressive!

  • Has anyone noticed how not a single kid in this video is obese? Fast forward 20 years and 3/4 of the kids in the States couldn't fit down those slides!

  • I totally remember this! Brings back childhood memories.

  • This song is truly beautiful.

  • from 1981

  • @peace1996ny Are you sure? I was in kindergarten in 1979 and i remember my teacher playing this song in class. You might be right, but i could swear it was from 79

  • @bigcheese1973 I found this information at Muppetwiki.

  • @bigcheese1973 1979? wow didnt realize it was that old

  • "I've got one daddy, I've got Two?" I never noticed that line as a child in the 1980s.

  • @davincent98 I think it was aimed at kids with a dad and a stepdad (remember, this was when divorce was becoming VERY common and was a BIG issue for a lot of families -- and teachers, childcare providers, etc.), but then again, Sesame Street was always pretty forward-thinking for its time.

  • @Redforkhippie Right, divorce would have been more controversial years ago. And here's Sesame Street including it as just another kind of family. It would have been very forward thinking for the time. :)

  • @NeverDoubt1

I think it was controversial, but i think sesame street put it in the song because regardless of whether the parents made mistakes or not, the children caught in the middle shouldn't be blamed. just my opinion of what they mean.

  • Comment removed

  • @davincent98 me either...that's some trash

  • @davincent98 that makes two no pun intended

  • @davincent98 Gay people never existed in the 1980s. ;) What a great song!!!

  • @goonmoonsoon they did but they didn't make a BIG deal out of it like today, and people said that F word like it was nothing. Now you get in big trouble.. i.e. Kobe Bryant

  • 49 people are really really bitter.

  • Sesame was inclusive of gender and race before it became such a hot topic...kudos to them! I grew up in a primarily Caucasian two but Sesame taught me what it is to be accepting of others and I never even realized I was learning it! At least not until I got older and saw how some narrow minded and bigoted people can be...thanks Sesame Street!!!

  • THIS SHOULD BE PATRIMONY OF HUMANITY

  • "I have one daddy i have 2" Doesn't refer to gay men, it referes to a divorced family. Step fathers and mothers.

  • @MissJLynn23 I think it could refer to both. I honestly thought it referred to gay men. But divorced familes and stepparents makes sense too.

  • @Spongefreak89 Even though I'm gay, I totally agree with your comment, Sponge. =)

  • @MissJLynn23 I always thought that too.

  • been a part of my family since i knew myself!!! hailing from the bahamas! they dont make stuff like this no more!!!

  • Sometimes I feel down about the human race, sometimes the extremists take up all the space... For a while there in the 70s and 80s, under Jim Henson's generous and warm vision of humanity, we were often the best versions of ourselves.

  • @hsmeeks very deep comment.DEEP! hailing from the bahamas........the best version or stage of ourselves...........makes yuo stop and think where did we go wrong? still hurting one another, and have not learned from history...............only that it repeats itself inevitably

  • @originalcynn Thanks! You're very sweet!

  • lmao@ 0:50....homeboy FLEW off of that slide

  • @LindsayMichelle87 seeing your comment made me rewind back to that part so many times!!! lol!! hailing from the bahamas! LOLOLOLOL

  • this video scares me a little

  • This most definitely brings back memories

  • I remember this song and video!

  • This is the unity I remember as a kid man. R.I.P 90's, truly missed.

  • the weird thing is that the voice fits all the kids perfectly

  • WAIIIITTT!!!.......... did that kid at 1:18 say she has two daddies ????..... interesting

  • @MrRanjv1 I think at the time this was originally made, it was supposed to represent divorced parents that remarry, but you're right, it is interesting listening to that line now.

  • @MrRanjv1 get your mind out of the gutter

  • Hey! My name *is* Amanda Sue!!

  • Hey, does anybody know when this was filmed? It looked old when I saw it as a kid and I'm in my 30's now so these kids must be in their 40's by now =)

  • @KatCassidyJr fuh real real right they probly have kids who watch sesame street

  • @KatCassidyJr it was filimed in 1987.

  • @Nightmastercool97 Nah, it was before then, I first saw it around '84 (I'm sure) - and I was "on delay" as I was in Australia so things played here two or three years after the American screening - unless I have a VERY bad memory - lol - possible

  • @Nightmastercool97 It first appeared in November of 1982.

  • jesus christ i remember this from my very first days of kindergarten... and now i am finishing my last days of school this week. it feels like yesterday - it's amazing how memories and feelings can be stirred by a simple tune.

  • I just emailed this to our school's guidance counselor....it would be great viewing for our little guys!

  • Where's the "love" button?

  • 45 ppl must be singing justin beiber or sumfin

  • Wow, these kids were active (skating, skateboarding, on the swings, playing ball...) Not like today (Xbox, PS3, Blackberry, Wii...)

  • @DutchKalhoun I agree! It's nice to see! I teach K/1 and when the kids tell us their weekend plans, it's always Legos or video games. The teacher I work with once asked, "And what will you do OUTside?" The kids just shrugged. *sigh*

  • I know where ya coming from, Peach561980. When I was a kid, adults practically had to beg us to come INSIDE. Now you have to practically beg these kids to go OUTSIDE. SMH.. The 80's was a great time to be a kid. I miss it :(

  • Cute song. This video should be compulsory viewing in schools. Maybe if it had been I wouldn't have got bullied so much for being autistic.

  • @verkaforever honestly no1 cares anymore i have 2 special need brothers n i get teased all tht time n my whole familys disabled :(

  • @nicksgirl545 You're right. Now I think about it, the kids were spoken to loads of times at both my schools. I actually gave a presentation on it myself for an English assignment, but it didn't do any good.

  • @verkaforever ik i actually did a small project o it 4 my school and i got rlly far i ended up meeting the mayor and getting an award just sayin i didnt think it was gonig anywhere but i got a letter in hte mail saying ive been one of the 9 ppl 2 win a national youth violence provention week of 2011 my whole family was proud every1 i tld n the ppl who say hte plaque tht iu got was in tears i still have the display case that i put together last year in my school n i was a freshman i wanted

  • @verkaforever 2 do something diffrent for high school i was always quiet in middle school i wanted to make a diffrence but when i found out tht kids were comming up 2 me n saying u rlly changed me im like WOAH!!!!

  • 45 people don't sing the same song

  • i remember hoping that when I went to the park or beach all the kids would start singing this song and we all would be friends! =)

  • Awesome song! It came out when I was born but remember sitting in front of the tv in the mornings watching sesame street and now my 3 yr old daughter loves this song!! Good Times! : p

  • Human Race Forever

  • That's my childhood right there. My mom recorded an episode with this song for me and I would watch it all time rewinding and singing. Damn it made me tear up now lol.

  • 2:28 sheldon cooper?!?!

  • Those were the days when you wish you were a child forever..... Sweet good old memories!!!

  • Back when kids acted like kids and wasn't in a hurry to grow up.

  • I loved this song when I was a kid. I now write for an online magazine about the love and acceptance of all people, regardless of our differences. Thank you Sesame Street for teaching me such a valuable lesson as a kid :) My kids will watch this one day as well!!!

  • This debuted in 1982, I answered my own question :)

  • What year did this video debut on Sesame Street, and why do I still know the lyrics by heart? lol

  • I don't see kids show these days teaching these kinds of values!

  • I still remember this song and its been 25 years since i last heard it.

  • what i liked seasme street was it used multi nationalties and diffrently abled people

  • anyone can help me with the lyrics ? thanks

  • *wipes tear*

  • What a masterpiece. Gorgeous cinematography. Brilliant editing. The playground setting offers so much vibrance. Just a pitty about the saccharine ending. Classic Sesame Street.

  • 0:12 elijah wood xD

  • @12yearoldgrungeboy I was thinking more like Anne Frank.

  • I remember this from my childhood. I love the message and the playground setting.

  • If they sing the same song in the same voice... they're singing in unison, not harmony... aren't they?

  • @Joydawn actually they said "AND we sing in harmony" so they already implied the unison part sweetheart! im just sayin though, ;)

  • dis was Sesame Street in dah day dah best

  • yes ive been looking for this for years

  • I remember this song as a kid. Thanks for posting . Actually Joe Raposo was one of my distant relatives. Had he been living today I would have taken the time to get to know him as I love his music. I just found out about the relationship about a year ago.

  • I remember being four years old and thinking the boy at 0:27 was cute :)

  • I've seen some conservatives cite this clip as an example of how Sesame Street is "brainwashing" our kids into a socialist agenda. Go figure.

  • @jhillst Funny since those same conservatives probably watched this same clip as kids.

  • @YellowjacketAsian: Yeah. They also say Looney Tunes is too violent when they watch it also. It's sad, really.

  • @jhillst

Odd, I always thought it was a more peaceful, "let's understand that we're different, so we can get along" sort of thing.

  • @Nidonemo A conservative will find a way to twist anything into something negative. Glenn Beck took Barack Obama's use of the word empathy and tried to tie it to Nazism.

  • roller skates.

    classic :-)

  • Aww, I had this on VHS for the longest time. Still relevant to this day..maybe moreso now

  • please tell me the name of the person who sings this song also i want to no who sings reach your hand up high on the episode wing in a sling

  • I still can't believe that they pulled this in 1987 for that one line about two daddies. That line could imply ANYTHING.

  • @wendyokoopa2343 I would have assumed that it meant that her parents divorced and her mom remarried so she had a dad and a stepdad. However, it may have been a reference to being adopted by gay parents. A lot of people are homophobic, and sadly can't see the hypocrisy of discriminating against somebody for their sexuality being just as wrong as discriminating against them for their skin color, religion, nationality, gender, etc.

  • @wendyokoopa2343 I didn't know that! It's ridiculous!!!!!!

  • i remember this song! I did it when i was in second and first grade. How cute:)

  • OMG I remember this song!

  • Ahh... cute kids not doing rap! I LOVE IT! :3

  • I love the progressive idealism of this song, and all the kids are so cute and 70s looking!

  • wow 38 people disliked this video? heartless bastards.

  • @DJM442 There's 45 heartless people now.

  • @DJM442 Heartless? Time to get my keyblade out of the closet!!!

  • @TinyRoseTamer yes.... INCREDIBLY heartless.

  • @DJM442 My guess is that those are the fine folks who don't think the line "I have one daddy, I have two" is an acceptable line.

  • @qhloejill They didnt grow up in 80's... with Old School Sesame. I'm 30- still don't think mich of it

  • @DJM442 38 people secretly *wish* they had two dads.

  • classic

  • THAT ANGRY LOOKING ASIAN KID ALWAYS CRACKS ME UP!

  • i wish all my freinds and i had the exact same voice for singing...o_0

  • Awwww wow..when I was little I liked the little curly head girl pushing the swing..

  • My brother named Jacob sang this song at a Cristmas consert

  • I think they should play this song at the beginning of each session of Congress. Love this song, still makes me smile after 20+ years.

  • I think they should play this song at the beginning of each session of Congress. Love this song, still makes me smile after 20+ years.

  • i LOVE THiS SONGG. i SANGG iT WiTH MYY PRESCHOOLERz. :)

  • I taught elementary school for 17 years, grades 3-8. I even showed this to my middle school kids, who also loved it. In those days I had to use the VHS tape. Timeless in song, spirit, message...

  • 1.after the kid in the glasses you could see that girl say part of yellow

    2. i live in the mountians on the beach yeah right

3 we all do not sing with the same voice

  • @Nintendowii555 I think they smushed it together

  • So what even IF that girl is being cared for by a gay couple? It's OK. I love this song, it's so sweet and teaches kids to honor diversity! =)

  • @astridkitty1212 Yeah exactly.

but it could also mean that her parents are divorced and her mom's remarried

  • @astridkitty1212: Exactly. Even if the former CTW changed positions and did make Bert and Ernie gay, would it matter that countless generations loved them for what they taught? Case in point.

  • @astridkitty1212 I agree!

  • песни Карелина karelin-pesni.ru

  • I haven't heard this song since I was little, and hearing it again just brought tears to my eyes, because I remember, this was my favorite Sesame Street song EVER!!! It's so nice to see it now whenever I like! Thank you for posting!

  • I thoughT that was a New York Cosmos jersey at 2:22.

Have a great day, a great night, a great week, a great month, a great Advent, a Happy Haunnakkah and a Merry Christmas! Puerto Rican Love from New York City!

  • Whatever happened to these ideals? (sigh)

  • my baby bro loves this and makin him see till hes 5 cause this is calm and nondemanding no racicm or weird things young kids dont understand

  • I love this song! When I was in elemntary school we sang this in choir and I had the solo "when im by myself at night i hold my teddy tight until the morning light.." ohh the memories! Now I'm watching it with my son and he thinks it is pretty catchy too! I What a great clip/song. I love the classic seasme street from when I was a young girl.

  • I saw this song as as a child. Its pretty old. I still like it every so often

  • omg 90s!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @biebergurl144 This is clearly either early 80s or late 70s

  • @ribenariver sorry i wouldnt know i wasnt alive then lol
