I have a question. when I was 14 years old I beat up someone. the family didn't charge me and the police officer said that if i don't touch him again it'll be fine. so does this go into my record? will it prevent me from being a police officer?
i have a question. I have a double lung transplant, i have been convicted of battery while armed as a juvenile, which was droped to a misdeamenor, and I have a restraining order on me for 2 years but the judge has that sealed and i have been drug and alcohol free for over a year. I am 16 years old. When am of age, would I be eligable to become a police officer?
I'm German. My dad is an US citizen living here in Germany. Is there a way to become an US citizen by applying for that job? In Germany I think it's possible to become a citizen when the company wants you to work for them. Is that possible in the US as well?
I like the idea of having police, but in practice they aren't so great. I am sure just about everyone wants the police around if there is a gang violence going on... but most of the time the police it seems like police spend there time harassing the public, breaking the laws, lying to feed their power trips and are just plain adrenaline junkies who want to create incidents where none exist.
Any info on becoming an officer, how does one apply to attend a police academy of any sort?age limitations?states that are hiring/looking for recruits?any info would be appreciated?.
@rrhynes I guess it's easy to stereotype all law enforcement officers as "bad apples", there is no such thing as a degree in Criminal Law, you have to take criminal law as well as constitutional law if your doing a degree in law enforcement amongst other classes, plus u learn it when you go to the academy which is a hole another thing in itself.
Last polygraph question: Are you willing to lie to anyone , anywhere, anytime about the what really happened on duty, if we're ever questioned about it?
@rrhynes Well in that case people should be happy that someone like me wants to be a cop. I am a very compassionate person who wants to enforce the laws that protect people's civil rights so that they can feel safe. It upsets me that so many bad cops give the rest a bad name and because of this I adamantly refuse to fall into that stereotype. I will also double as an EMT and I just think you might like to know that at least there's one person (me) who wants to be a cop for the RIGHT reasons.
@TonicMike Great. Just remember that the status quo doesn't like cops that get other cops in trouble. They can really make it hard on you. If you've never watched Serpico, watch it. It's old , but nothing has changed. Lying is part of the false brotherhood of most cops. Not all , of course, but most. You'll see. Stick your principles and remember that your own safety and well being is NOT the objective of a police officer, despite what you hear on the TV all the time.
Here are the polygraph test questions: 1. Do you want to be a police officer and retire early with phenomenal benefits and pension package? 2. Do you want to be able to violate people's civil rights with virtual impunity from civil or criminal prosecution? 3. Would you like to be able to kill people that are either unarmed or wheelchair bound and threatening you with a ktichen fork? 4. Do you enjoy publicly humiliating and/or beating people in a public forum to get your rocks off?
@Musicalshootings No I am currently finishing up my degree in law enforcement, actually start my internship in a few months, good luck in your future!
Yeah maybe its different where he is from. Here in chicago you need at least a bach. degree or more plus military experience in order to be in a good spot for a job. Even then its highly competitive. And you need to pass a physical idk why he didnt mention it there.
@fizwizx Too bad the psyche tests are such an abysmal failure. Perhaps an ethics test or maybe a dozen of them to weed out the trash that occupies a large portion of the Chicago PD.
@rrhynes psych test is in a way an ethics test, it's to see if you can do the job I agree some slip through the cracks and should not be in law enforcement but I guess you have to understand the job before you can really judge on their behavior it's not an excuse at all but it's really easy to point fingers sometimes which we do all the time
@fizwizx I realize that bad apples are in every bunch. The problems stems for this false brotherhood that protects the worst of them . That part destroy their credibility. It always has and always will. In my opinion, LEO's should have to take lie detector tests every year. There is no excuse for the lengths to which LEO's defend even the worst actions. You can't expect to be respected when you aren't even willing to police yourselves.
@rrhynes Oh ok misunderstood what you said, but sure I wouldn't have a problem with that at all, write to your congressman I am sure they will listen and understand
I am 14 and my dream is to become a police officer i have gotten suspended alot and i have recently had a turning point when i got expelled i hope i qualify someone please respond and tell me i you think i qualify
@Musicalshootings Well by your typing you don't appear to mature, no offense. But school problems like that won't disqualify you, but it won't look pretty when they check you. Not a big problem though.
@TheFirstHeadShot Musicalshootings? Firstheadshot? It begs a terrifying question. Who are they turning away at the tax revenue furnace known as the police academy? In Riv Calif cops spent more on political influence in 2011 then in the previous 10yrs It works! With their union $ they own the state legislature Insuring no honest man hold elected office who wont rob the general fund. Ironic isn't it, the people cops put in jail could never in a life time do as much damage
@Musicalshootings Dont worry about it. As long as you didnt get arrested your good to go. We all make mistakes. Just stay out of trouble. One arrest will disqualify you trust me. I would suggest going to college and getting a degree. Also look into Police Explorer programs at your local department, it will give you a feel for what police work is really like.
Ummm you forgot to mention all the discrimination you do..I took the test 6 times with the last time finally scoring a band 4 wich was a 96 number 13 on the listan n ot to mention I'm a "MINORITY" so what happened no back ground a Constable for yrs and nothing,,also how is it that the Captain or Srgt has all his 3 sons or nephews in there??..Un real be realistic,,,thank you!!..by the way it was your loss not hiring me you need me i don't need you!!
police are the shit of society. They don't stop crime they just fuck peoples lives up after its already happend. Society doesn't need police to function just look at ancient civilizations in mesoamerica they had some of the most productive societies in history and the order was upheld by every citizen- not tyrannical assholes that go out of their way to cite people for smoking weed and call it "justice".
I am about to initiate the exam processes starting with the written exam. This video did not touch on the physical or agility exams (which I know they differ from department to department) but does anyone know what encompasses an agility test? Just curious, thanks.
To be considered for employment in most parts of the US for a law enforcement job you have to be at least 21 years old, have a clean criminal background, possess a hs diploma or ged, and have already completed a basic law enforcement training program. Also to get hired you must have good credit, pass a polygraph exam, pass a psychological exam, pass an extensive background investigation, and also pass an oral board interview.
The requirements said in the video are just to send an application. To have a chance at being hired...You must have good credit. You must have either (a. military experience or b. a bachelor's degree). You must have a successful career ALREADY, it doesn't matter in what field.
@GladiatorGT I know a lot of guys in law enforcement that don't have military experience or a college degree. Sure neither one of those will hurt your chances but just because you possess one or both of those things aforementioned doesn't necessarily make you a shoe in for a job in law enforcement. At the end of the day being of good moral character and an honest, upstanding citizen of the community with a desire to serve is far more important.
@FreemasonsAreAwesome When were they hired? I doubt it was within the last 3 years. And I never said having a degree or military experience will make a person better fit for the job-- it's just an unofficial requirement departments use since 2009.
@GladiatorGT Actually quite a few of the guys I know have been hired in the last several years. You are right that it definitely doesn't hurt. Hell in this day in age we live in and with the economy the way it is it doesn't hurt to have as many things going for you as possible.
If you don't have respect for the police you probably have no idea how much they do for you. The police are responsible for a lot in the US that people take for granted. If you lived in a country where the police are corrupt and have to be bribed just to get them to protect your family from being abused by dangerous gangs you'd keep a civil tongue in your head and mind your manners.
@Kiddeth So if a loved one got kidnapped you would not think to call 911? Do you not realize that detectives work around the clock to gather leads and solve crimes such as this? My brother got into heroine hardcore and he had become a danger to himself and my family. He was arrested by the police and is now in court-ordered rehab. Getting arrested got him the help that he was too arrogant and screwed up to accept. Police take thousands of dangerous drivers off the street every day.
@Kiddeth The truth is that we owe a lot of the relative safety of the US to the active police force in this country. A lot of cops give the police a bad reputation but the work of well-meaning and courageous police officers is a big part of conveniences which many people take for granted. I know there are unsafe parts of the US and there is still a lot of crime in areas but in my opinion the crime rate would be significantly higher if there was no justice system in place to provide consequences.
@TonicMike you really think crime would be higher with out the legal system, ( it is a legal system not a justice system, rarely is justice done ) that's debatable. Our legal system is one of the most flawed aspects of American society, rarely are real criminals held accountable while people rot in jail for the most minor of transgressions. Police are nothing more than bullies with government backing. sure their are some that are there to help, but you'll not catch me asking for help from them.
@TonicMike Thanks ToxicMike for displaying the standard police tone:Shut your mouth & know there are consequences for speaking out against the cops. Good point In 2011 Riv cops spent more on political influence then they had in the previous 10yrs It works! Union money has locked the state legislature in their favor They have rid Calif of Democracy making our vote useless. Ironic isn't it, the people they put in jail could never in a life time do as much damage to our once great state.
@TonicMike In those countries, they don't have generous benefits, retirement and make over $100k a year. Oh yeah, I forgot Union support for ANY reason you get in trouble while you're on or off duty.
@TonicMike Sorry buddy but the po' po' is overrated. I don't need the police to protect me, I do my own protecting since I'm proficient with firearms and have more combat experience than most of these civilian-turned-cops could ever dream. The only reason I would have to interact with them would be in cases of investigation...for example if my car gets stolen, etc...I would have to go down to the station to make a report.
"When seconds count, the police are only minutes away..."
@TonicMike No. We're a nation of laws, not a police state. We have the fairest criminal justice sytem around(theoretically) and the police are supposed to abide by our laws as welll. We have civil rights and the bill of rights. We expect and demand police observe those rigths while conducting their business. Unfortunately, LEO's often fail to realize what they're job really is and abuse us. This is because they are ignorant , moronic thugs.
I love how people say, "Fuck the police." When they probably are on drugs or do some crime related activities regularly. You might want to re-evaluate your judgement. They're just doing their jobs.
My cities police department requires at least a 2 year degree in police science and you need to be physically and mentally fit no exceptions, I guess that's why we have one of the U.S's lowest crime rates!
this is good job if you are smart, calm , and strong physically and mentally and i am hoping to become one after i graduate high school screw college even though ill have to go ..there till i turn 21.
@Thesoulreplay Well actually you have it backwards...you have to be exactly the opposite of all those characteristics you mentioned. Go to college and get smart, oh thats right you said screw college...you'll make a great police officer.
I was a police officer at age 18. I was born in Dec. 1963. I finished high school in June of 1982 and joined the dept. on April 17,1982. This was a small town in VA and my father was the chief of police. I was on the job for 10 years.
You may well need to be 21 now but I know back then you didn't have to be.
This was a small country town, kinda like Mayberry.
@rrhynes Of course not. It was a great job at the time. The police dept and the people got along just fine. Don't even know why you would ask something like that.
@rrhynes Thats about how my father was. This at the time was a small town of about 3,000 where everybody knew eachother. When I go home to visit today people still talk to me about my father. I have been told they have not had a good dept. since he left.It was just not the job for me. Times were a lot different then to.
In Canada the minimum age I believe is 25 and you require more schooling then just high school. The idea is that in college or university you're opened up to alot more perspectives and your stereotypes are reduced or eliminated. Lastly, you don't actually fully mature until mid to late 20's. Becoming a police is more and more about brains then brawn.
Poly-graph test are pseudo-science, there is no debate, NASA even posted several articles demonstrating how polygraphs are junk science. Why do police departments use poly-graph test? Is it just a slick way to interrogate?
@lauk05 - Depends on the PD, but most of them will require you to complete training in their Police Academies since the laws vary from state to state and from country to country.
@ilovemesomechicken Just letting you know, you can't just join the Army for 2 years. It's a 4 year active duty and 4 years of inactive unless you're reserve/national guard then most likely would be 6 years and 2 after. its better to just do reserves and take the exam to be a police officer. some DP's will put military personnel as priority to get called up but some don't.
@shattori1, actually you can join the Army or Navy or any branch for two years, but you will be required to do six years of inactive ready reservists. Two years is the minimum of actual service. The inactive reserves are just the legal aspects to pull you back active if they need you.
wow that easy.i got those already.my mom keeps telling me to ask my nearest police department if i can join, but i fear most about this job is my life.i guess i have to take risks since so far fining a safe good paying job isnt that easy.id think ill give it a try. i respect cops. their heros to me
I'll be 21 in 2 weeks all i gotta do is get my high school diploma and i should be able to get started because i am a U.S citizen and i have a 100% clean criminal record
Most all cops i met are PIGS ANd are corrupt as hell even when i was in class they sold drugs. Now that dude is the chief in a town in Iowa! In Florida they ran a coke organization called the oke---- 12 and were caught ,but the medeia didnt expose them as if citizen would have done the same. They make me sick. After realizing how corrupt and power hungry they were because many of them are hillbilly racists i decided on another career that paid double of whata cop earns.
these same hobo towns force physical fitness to fast through the years with intense programs to weed the lower level members out, therefore making it nearly impossible to eventually rise to the level of the police as the clock keeps ticking away, creating false perceptions on both sides and eventually possible run ins with the police.
in utah there is more open space peace safety and freedom to train to be a community police officer like building your body up through childhood and adolescence by just taking walks through the country. some of these small hobo towns have cops all over the place watching the kids and watching the adults to keep away from the kids, kinda like Northern Ireland.
@exposer u dont have to be a racist on here if someone says something dumb like that guy is dont even answer him back . your going to Vanderbilt and will be more successful than he is. what did you get a scholarship for football or basketball? i also saw you got a academic scholarship also cant have a low IQ to get one into Vanderbilt
@exposer274 you are black aren't you... that would enplane a lot. no i am not a cop i have friends who's dads are cops and they are some of the bravest, nice, honorable people you would ever meet. you most likely 16 and have a below average IQ.
people like u make me laugh when u talk about someone u dont even know. everyone on here can voice their opinion and if he wants to call a cop a pig thats his choice it doesnt make him dumb. before u call someone dumb take a look at yourself because u dont know how to spell explain so u probaly have a pretty low IQ
whatever u say. I have a better life than u will ever have. your probaly the one who dropped out of high school and probaly 40 living with your mom. I know plenty of educated people who call PIGS PIGS. PIGS are people who couldnt make it anywhere else in life and are scum of the earth like u. your mom should be slapped for having u
actually im a senior in high school and will be attending Vanderbilt University this fall on a full academic and athletic scholarship. so u are wrong and yes its true if u become a PIG u are a loser and could not make it anywhere else in life
@timexruncher who cares if you beleive me or not. there is logic behind my statement. your just a mindless parrot who probaly dreams about becoming a cop
If I dont live in the USA, and I move there, and do the test and become a citizen. How long do I have to actually be a citizen of the US to apply? Do I need to be it for some while or? If so, how long?
I have a question. when I was 14 years old I beat up someone. the family didn't charge me and the police officer said that if i don't touch him again it'll be fine. so does this go into my record? will it prevent me from being a police officer?

Ironic isn't it, the people they put in jail could never in a life time do as much damage to our once great state.
mperhaps 2 months ago
@TonicMike In those countries, they don't have generous benefits, retirement and make over $100k a year. Oh yeah, I forgot Union support for ANY reason you get in trouble while you're on or off duty.
rrhynes 1 month ago
@TonicMike Sorry buddy but the po' po' is overrated. I don't need the police to protect me, I do my own protecting since I'm proficient with firearms and have more combat experience than most of these civilian-turned-cops could ever dream. The only reason I would have to interact with them would be in cases of investigation...for example if my car gets stolen, etc...I would have to go down to the station to make a report.

@TonicMike that is police in the U.S.
GTILOUD 1 month ago

Requirements to become a police officer.
1.) BE extremely stupid.
2.) Be an egomaniac.
3.) Make sure you don't know about freedoms.
4.) Beat and kill people.

TheJer1963 1 year ago
@TheJer1963 Did you routinely violate people's rights and run the town like you owned it?
rrhynes 1 month ago
@rrhynes Of course not. It was a great job at the time. The police dept and the people got along just fine. Don't even know why you would ask something like that.
TheJer1963 1 month ago
@TheJer1963 I'm glad to hear that. We all would like an Andy Taylor for Sheriff.
rrhynes 1 month ago
@rrhynes Thats about how my father was. This at the time was a small town of about 3,000 where everybody knew eachother. When I go home to visit today people still talk to me about my father. I have been told they have not had a good dept. since he left.It was just not the job for me. Times were a lot different then to.
TheJer1963 1 month ago
@TheJer1963 I asked it because the worst offenders, where LEO agencies are concerned, are the small towns and the big cities.

Moorsie900 1 year ago
In Canada the minimum age I believe is 25 and you require more schooling then just high school. The idea is that in college or university you're opened up to alot more perspectives and your stereotypes are reduced or eliminated. Lastly, you don't actually fully mature until mid to late 20's. Becoming a police is more and more about brains then brawn.
Moorsie900 1 year ago

ilovemesomechicken 1 year ago
@ilovemesomechicken It depends on the department. Some need a college degree, but most dont.
HrapovikPlush 1 year ago
@ilovemesomechicken Just letting you know, you can't just join the Army for 2 years. It's a 4 year active duty and 4 years of inactive unless you're reserve/national guard then most likely would be 6 years and 2 after. its better to just do reserves and take the exam to be a police officer. some DP's will put military personnel as priority to get called up but some don't.
shattori1 1 year ago
@shattori1, actually you can join the Army or Navy or any branch for two years, but you will be required to do six years of inactive ready reservists. Two years is the minimum of actual service. The inactive reserves are just the legal aspects to pull you back active if they need you.

PULGACOYOTE 1 year ago
these same hobo towns force physical fitness to fast through the years with intense programs to weed the lower level members out, therefore making it nearly impossible to eventually rise to the level of the police as the clock keeps ticking away, creating false perceptions on both sides and eventually possible run ins with the police.
EMOTIONALLOGICABLE 1 year ago
in utah there is more open space peace safety and freedom to train to be a community police officer like building your body up through childhood and adolescence by just taking walks through the country. some of these small hobo towns have cops all over the place watching the kids and watching the adults to keep away from the kids, kinda like Northern Ireland.
