Why is it so hard to get in contact with a recruiter!!/?? :/ I call call call, and email email email!! And it's not like I can drive by the recruiting office either, I live four and a half hours away!
@Meatre26 Ohhhhh, gotchya. Thats what we did at first, but by the end we had to be able to do a timed 3 mile. Idk what ther requiremnt was for males, but females is 3 miles in under 31 min. What are your requirements for after bootcamp? Do you have a yearly PFT?
@sparklerbombg No, but there is divine hours between 0800 and 1300 on sundays to get your rack and uniforms squared away, read and write letters, and shine boots and you can sort of take it easy. Just don't get caught shootin' the shit with your buddies in the head hahaha!
I want to join the USCG. I really do. Can anyone answer me this, do you (once you are actually fully in it and out of BT) do you actually do stuff? I have heard in the Navy you sit around and do nothing most of the time. On a daily basis, will I be doing work every day?
No question, you're always doing something at your job. But it's fun because your shipmates make the most out of it and you will more than likely find a job you like because we do EVERYTHING. No joke. USCG is the way to go.
@fightinirish1112 alright, thank you man. Did you serve personally in the guard yourself? What was your average day like if you did? What did YOU do in the guard?
Yeah I'm a member. I'm still early on in the game but one day you could be scrubbin' the deck and the next you could be helping on a search and rescue case. It's a day to day thing but you get a lot of responsibility, something most of the other branches don't do.
@fightinirish1112 Alright. That is exactly what I am looking for. I just don't want to sit around on me and ass and do nothing all day. Just curious where are you stationed?
@butchMB09 Learning how to wait and read your helmsman lol. I honestly don't remember too much, but the majority of it was definitely spent waiting and sitting as tall and straight and quietly and staying awake as possible.
i want to join the coast guard and the main thing i want to do is be a rescue swimmer, only question is is whats the difference between being a coast guard rescue swimmer and a navy rescue swimmer? is the navy training more harder? or which branch is more active on the field? which has more benefits?
i want to join the coast guard and the main thing i want to do is be a rescue swimmer, only question is is whats the difference between being a coast guard rescue swimmer and a navy rescue swimmer? is the navy training more harder? or which branch is more active on the field? which has more benefits?
I'm trying to decide between joining the Coast Guard and the Navy. I'm not sure which to do, but I know with the coast guard I have more of a chance to have the career I want
@SFTBLLLVR3 Join the Navy! Hooya! It has been the BEST decision that I have ever made. I love every minute of it and I DON'T regret anything. The Navy is where its at! You ultimatly have to do whats best for you. I had some friends who ultimatly chose Navy over coast guard and they said the main reason is bc the coast guard doesn't guarentee your job. I don't know if thats true or not. Either way your serving the world's greatest nation. I wish you the best of luck on your decision. Hooya!
@SFTBLLLVR3 research and find a job that you really want after that work up to it, each branch is going to shit on one another, its what you want its not what everybody else wants.
I got a cross tattoo is less than 1/4 inch width but is kinda long down 1/8 will i qualify and i got a tattoo on the forearm but doesnt reach the wrist bone like by 2 inches will i quaify?
ok...im thinking about joining the coast guard but have a question...what is the difference in going in as a maritime enforcement specialists compared to being a boatswain mate then doing advanced training of law enforcement?
@jaymsthemajestic when you do boatswain mate your really not doin that much law enforcement, even after training. boatswain mate you'll be doin alot of actual boat work, painting and maintenance and such
@jaymsthemajestic wouldn't recomend trying to go me, bm is the way to go.... besides the me rate is all locked up right now you cant even get on the list to go to school for it
@jaymsthemajestic: It all comes down to what your main job would be. As a BM, your main job would be serving as a coxswain so to speak and as an ME, your main job would be law enforcement. They didn't have ME when I was in. I wish they did.
@obie309 I do that in my civilian job. It is not a fun task and I don't take pride in doing that. If that is a reason for you wanting to join the Coast Guard, then you have some MAJOR issues.
@obie309 Being in the Coast Guard myself, I have dealt with this specific thing you just mentioned a couple times. It was the hardest thing I have had to deal with my entire life. That is among other things we have to go through, burned people, people run over by boats, floaters that have been in the water a couple weeks. I will never forget that smell, they smell the same every time. Oh whoops I just typed way more than I meant to. That one save, makes it all worth it when you see there faces.
@mpkabooty i think the navy and air force are the same. in the army we only ran 1/2 mile more than that so its not like all that bad at any basic training. Marines only needs 3 miles in minimum 28minutes which is a steady slow job. the graduate pft tests are not what make...its the things you had to do during. those tests are just to make sure 2x a year that your still keeping in military shape. i ran 2 miles at army BCT but i can tell you i never ran that low during AIT or in my unit.
@pinkjapanwolf I suspect it is like any other fear. Constant exposure to build your confidence. Which means do a lot of swimming in deep water. No shame in being scared as long as you control your emotion and learn to overcome your fear. Your fear is rational, in that you could drown, but through training you can control that fear. Good luck.
@pinkjapanwolf I am the same way at times. To get over fear of depth you just gotta jump in and swim. Theres no other way to get over it other than just practicing
@Hannibal730 thats not standards for the other services. army is almost double that to graduate. we needed a 50% to graduate BCT and a 60% to graduate AIT which varies depending on your MOS
someone explain to me how swimming is hard? what is the point of a 5ft platform? You jump off then what? Christ, if anyone has ever been to a lake before then I guess they pass? Enlighten me
its hard bc you swim for a very long time and they make you tred water as well factor in your physically tired from all the training as well. yeah its not easy.
Recruits have to get up very early, swim 1 and 1/2 times around an olympic size pool without touching the walls or the ground in under 5 minutes. Then they tread deep water. If you fail, they wake you up a 4 am to swim again. In extreme cold weather, and after weeks of intense training, the recruits are sleep deprived, their skin hurts and many of them are ill. Yet they have to pass or be reverted.
@CorruptNwa i guess it depends on who is there, its the same with the marines but i would suppose that people expect to be worked harder, maybe ther dont expect it in the coast guard
this is awesomeee like dude i love this... where do i sign up....
