Wow...Did you see how Arlene and Dorothy were drooling over him when he was saying goodbye to the panel?!? What was it about him that made all these women (including the hottest of them all--Marilyn) so wet whenever he was around them???
@DavidKalafatis Lucky you! He was the handsomest, most charismatic man that ever lived. There will never be another ball player like Joe, nor anyone who could draw a crowd like him. God, how I miss him! XOXO from Texas
Joe was a great player, but he could be a very cold person. He insisted that he always be announced as "The Greatest Living Player" at all NY Yankees old timers games.
oops I didn't know that Joe DiMaggio didn't graduate from Alhambra High School in Martinez, where he's from. Martinez still has a small town atmosphere and they have a tradition. Every Homecoming, they close down Main street and have a big parade; I asked someone when the tradition started and they said after WW2. I don't know, but i think Di Maggio 'may 'have started it. I ve heard of other small towns that don't have this tradition
It's unfortunate when the panel doesn't even pretend to not know who it is. They are notorious for knowing who would be on the show or at least in town.
Mystery Guest says it all ..No one in the world , really knew him ...His kids said "they never knew him ..Great talent ...who playing baseball today has 1/10th his class ?..but strange man
It's still quite amazing that his 56-game hitting streak from the 1941 season still stands as a record to this day. It will likely stand for many more years to come.
Ted Williams is better than any hitter today. Joe DiMaggio, not necessarily. And I'm a Yankees fan. But I do believe a few players are better than Joltin Joe right now.
Not one "ya know" came out of this man. Gracious and elegant. Probably the greatest all-round baseball player ever. His father wanted him to be a fisherman and the Chicago Cubs passed on him as being too injured to play. Kramer saw him at Dinky Donuts. RIP Joe
Although the marriage was a disaster, it turned out he was a better as friendly guardian of Marilyn Monroe. He did a lot of interviews on TV, but not once did I ever hear him talk about her.
Wow! I'd always thought Joe D. was the coldest fish in the world. Yet here he is, talking in goofy voices and making jokes. Amazing. Thanks for posting this.
Yes. But this was quite normal these days and I was taught by my grandma the same way. So I find it quite irritating these days to see ladies gettin´up when men want to shake their hands....
I am a die-hard Red Sox fan, but wouldn't it be great if we could have just one athlete nowadays with the class of Joe DiMaggio. Wish I'd been around to see him play.
I'm 17 i kinda look like marilyn and this guy I like resembles joe dimaggio. He's a handsome man! I can see why Marilyn loved him! I wished they would have remarried. I hope I'll have my own Joe Dimaggio soon!
The contention that DiMaggio had very few friends is ridiculous. He was extremely personable and quite well liked by an enormous number of people. Just ask anyone who ever encountered him in San Francisco after his retirement from baseball.
Marilyn and Dimaggio relationship was complicated, he beated her up for jealousy, but he stand by her side all her life, even after the divorce, always helping her whenever she was in danger. After her death he cultivated hate for Frank Sinatra and the Kenedy family and blamed then for her tragic death. He never maried anyone else, his last words were "I'll finally see Marilyn again". He was a great man, had class. Everyone makes mistakes when they love too much.
joe came to chicago back in the 80s and was the grand marshall for the columbus day parade he came out to ohare and was boarding a flt sfo what a great gentlemen he was we talked about our sicillian heritage and about baseball he especially liked bill skowron from the yankees he told me he was his kinda ball player it is so sad that joes son had died so soon after him
DiMaggio, class on the field and off. Whats funny is how well spoken athletes of older generations were. DiMaggio never finished high school. Compare him to some of the nit wits athletes of today who attended college and have trouble speaking in complete sentences. And Fred Allen was a gem.
I feel that attending college will not guarantee that a student will become a good speaker. You can't judge someone's intelligence, by the way they speak, or write.
I agree that simply attending college will not improve a students ability to speak. However, how someone speaks and more importantly writes IS OFTEN a reflection of how they think.
I somewhat disagree with you again. Because you may have an individual who is a sharp thinker, but have a difficult time in expressing their views. Your going to always have exceptions in very category of life, so its wise to keep an open mind about a person intelligence, and their behavior.
Facinating video clip because Di-M liked nothing more than to put his feet up in front of the t.v. with a beer EVEN WHEN he was married to Marilyn Monroe.
Wow. Don't really know much about DiMaggio, really, but he impressed me here--very well spoken, dapper, charming, and displayed a nice sense of humor. You just TRY finding a major sports star on television with half that amount of class.
@tjbnyc76 So true, people nowadays just want to act cool and use slang that rap artist's use. I guess we are having major identity crisis its a shame people cant be themselves
I second that emotion! I've never been much of a sports fan...but have always loved how well dressed & dapper Joe was! And what a great voice! Though usually a very private man of few words, he was a CLASS act all the way! :)
@mariejeanfrancis thats because that era had more rules less freedoms women had class then too.today technology and freedom and the media corrupts some girls today won't even allow a guy to open a door for them because they feel as they are seen as weak and unable to do so.Then you could be a gentlemen and expect a positive reaction today you can be an asshole and get the girl and the guy who is nice be alone.
