I have a 86 735i vert, everything is good until I reach about 3800 rpm's then the engine has a power loss and fire. I have checked the fuel pressure regulator, the full throttle switch the mass air flow sensor crankshaft sensor ,coil spark plug, coil wire, distiboters, no luck so far, any ideas on what I should do next....rep me please thxxx
i couldnt imagine this car having enough power to spin the wheels. i have an '84 and its the slowest car ive driven in my entire life-i cant even keep up with trafic when i floor it lol
That thing needs a turbo! I've recently put my '83 528e on the road, it's an old motor I picked up for $700 CDN. I had to repair some rust and fix a whole bunch of dumb shit just to get the motor running acceptably, but it's a reliable old horse and there's lots of torque to build on.
I've got another motor for it in bits that I'm planning on building up to take a smaller turbo, the idea is to build on its natural lower-end punch. It'll probably make some pretty decent power!
@Michael28810 Hey, I have a question.. I'm 17 and have been looking for a "starter" car for not a lot of money. Today I stopped and looked at one of these. It's an 86 and looks to be in decent condition (small bit of rust and some of the paint is peeling off the hood in the middle.. interior is in amazing condition!) Asking price is $1500.00 or best offer.. Should I look into it?
@sgsauer225 - Maybe. Do you see a decent amount of old BMW's in your area? Making sure you can get parts is essential. Otherwise, it'd be a great car to start with.
The 525e/ 528e is not designed for power/ speed but for good mpg and relaxed cruising. Don't treat this car like shit, it's a beauty that should be respected yeh!
i wouldnt say with a little work. but its definitely possible. back in the 70's, bmw took the m10 and destroked it to 1.5 liters and then turbo'd it and it was like 800 or 900 horsepower and it revved up to like 14k.
if you knew anything about bmw's you would know the m20b27 was used for economy. only 4500rpm 120hp and 170lb ft of torque. the 3.3 in the 533i was the fastest saloon back in it's day.
They have power it's just this guy is in a 5 series that weighs more than fat albert. It has too much weight and traction for a good burn out. Now like an e30 325i that has a shit load of torque especially if you add a turbo.
what a damn retard

this is some of the weakest shit I've ever seen. Barely power sliding on damp pavement? And I will gladly stick to my M50.
chad174670 2 years ago
i never said anything about the power. theyre great engines that will run forever. so is the M50. I'm an M10 guy though.
ilikepretzels2 2 years ago
I was reading some magazine and they were talking about making M10's do 10,0000 rpm with a little work, is that for real?
