  • LOL STEVE VS THE CAMMRA

  • could i build one of these with a rcx

  • That's pretty creative how you envolve robots that were not originally intended for sumo matches in sumo matches.

  • HAHAHA!! That's pretty funny using other robots like alpha rex!

  • the best fight is with the scorpion LOL

  • tribot spanking action in the end, nice XD

  • why didnt u get that orge bot thing on :D to pwn them it would be epic

  • @Bradleyj2k8 Well... there's the fact that this "Tribot sumo" event took place years before I created Ogre :).

  • I could built a rpbot that bwns a tribot in 30 minutes ^^

  • Sure. So could all the people you see in this video (including the 9-year-old boy) - most of the folks there have won LEGO sumo events all around the state of Indiana, and most of those people are currently consultants for LEGO in the MCP program.

The goal was to *have* to start with Tribot, and *have* to use that structure, being otherwise limited only to the parts in a 1.0 kit.

  • I started with a tribot-based structure, and using only parts in one kit, made a 4 wd sumo bot geared 5:1.(so its ridiculously slow) It uses the battery lid as a ramp and is shaped like a flat box. (for a low center of gravity)

is it a good design for a mini sumo competition?

  • 5/5 you are a genius

  • What sensor does the robot with the flipper (at 0:45) use to detect that the robot is on the ramp?

  • That one was actually one of mine. The flipper was triggered when the USE sensor "saw" something closer than 10 cm (if memory serves).

  • ok, and so is the flipper just a beam connected to the tribot's 3rd motor?

  • Yep.

  • spike is awesome

  • Couldn't you build a tank with a rubberband cannon? Would be cool:P

  • I could, but I don't really like rubber band guns - Zamor spheres are much more effective (and much quicker to reload). If you look through my other videos, you might like the "Frangible LEGO" one... ;)

  • yes ruberrbandguns are slower to reload, but they shoot more wide than zamor sphere shoters

  • lol!

  • XD...airstick vs tic tac toe lolol

    5/5...you have to many nxt!!!

i gonna buy one myself..this week

  • lolol that was awesome. when i saw 3:35 i couldnt stop staring at how many robots there were. XD

  • Yeah... we had more than a couple NXTs in the house that day (I think the end count was around 22 or more).

  • i love your videos lucky for you that have any friend that likes lego i have built lego for 13 years and i still dont know any friends that i can built machines with :( im so alone....

  • Well, to get together with my "local friends" I have to drive 2.5 hours one way, so you may have to expand your search horizons a little bit to find folks this dedicated (or crazy).

  • y did u battle the tank against all !! =D?

  • Even the tank couldn't have taken on the Bulldozers - those things are just too big! They do a good job of rolling right over the smaller opposition, and in this event... yes, even that tank (by John Brost) was a "small competitor" :)

  • how do you get money for all of those?

  • What you are seeing is the combined collection of five individuals, as well as some sets donated by LEGO for the actual contest. But yes, that is... a lot of cash sitting in one room :).

  • nice!! looks like so much fun!

  • that scorpion was kick ass

  • That tank was Badass! Is there any more footage or images?

    - Mike

  • The tank was very nicely done, and has been posted as a project on LEGO's NXTlog site (search for the user jbrost76). I have more video of this event, but this is really the interesting stuff... do you really want to watch 10 minutes of unedited home movies every time you visit YouTube :) ?

  • 1:25 to 1:29 they where dancing

  • i have mindstorms

  • i want to come to your house to battle with your robots

  • I wanna come play Mindstorms at your house!

  • Yes, we do have a good time with our toys. As do our kids :)

  • hands down my fav has to be forklift bot the way he took out truck in the second round like nothing was there

  • ya geeks!!! no jk good job on those!

  • HAHA,,, just thought of something, get JennToo or Hours to fight in the nExt matches

  • Don't laugh - JennToo was there that day, and took out a bulldozer :)

  • The tank is just beautiful.

The fork lift is better than I expected - and highly effective.

Thanks for posting this Brian - really enjoyed watching all the creations!

  • You're welcome! the Tank ("L-1 LEGO Battle Tank") is a creation of John Brost, and watching the bogie wheels adjust as it ran over an edge was wonderful. The forklift was great as well, created by Bryan Bonahoom.

  • WOW! that be alot of sets! luckey,,,,,,,,,,,,,,!!!!,,! i would of loved to see DAZLAR in the compation, that would of ben a good match

  • Agreed - Perhaps a Hailstorm-derivative can make it in the nExt event. It probably wouldn't do a lot, but it would be a blast to watch...
