Great idea, I want one! Are you sure about the third of Rast though? 14 cents just makes it a just intonation major third . . . I thought it was lower. I more familiar with Arabic music, where it is definitely lower, but I've never heard anyone suggest that the Rast third in Turkish music was just a JI major third.
Oh, and rmorteg, the idea of "off notes" may be nothing new, but did you notice the content of this video at all? The guitar's frets? This is not a video describing how micro-tonal notes are new. He clearly stated that this music was centuries old. It's about the GUITAR DESIGN. Now you can CHOOSE to play a micro-tone without detuning the whole string all the way up and down the fretboard.
Most technicians lack playing skill, due to spending all their time in tech world. This guy has both traits, and it's the best case, because he can find real-world guitar-playing concerns and use them to develop meaningful solutions. Too bad western culture doesn't understand the idea of "off-pitch" notes in music, except as "occasionally-forgivable mistakes".
Yeah. Its called the thirteenth sound or something julian carrillo named it. Microtones are nothing new. Anyone who bends or slides notes can hear the "microtones. " Seems like a lot of ta-da over old news.
This is not a guitar anymore...and what he plays is not music. Ricardo Moyano captured Turkish folk spirit much better without any microtones. But this...even if it had 1000 microtones it would not work. This guy did not get the point.
OK so this is cool and innovative and awesome, but wouldn't no frets be easier? I'm not trying to rain on anybodys parade here but, I just don't get it
How much would a guitar like that cost? How can i get a guitar such as yours. Do you have more information about microtonal music or microtonal harmony. Thank you very much! Loved your work!
wow...i'm breathless...spechless..i've never heard a beautiful music like yours...you're really a master!!! i would like to play guitar like you! bye from italy!!
Your innovation is brilliant, and your playing is very engaging! I am very interested in investigating these sliding frets, and I have a couple questions:
When the frets wear down, how do you replace them? Do you take them to a luthier to be re-crowned?

@Astrochronic microtones are not out of tune.
