  • This is so clever and beautiful! Respect man!!

  • Great video and musicianship. Thank you very much for taking the time to make this and put it online.

  • opens an entirely different and beautiful world of music for the guitar

    Thank You ! ! !

  • Your work is incredible. To anyone else wishing to purchase MP3s, you can find him by searching "tolgahan fidayda" at Amazon.

  • Wow! You're an expert, sir!

  • muhteşem.

  • This is so awesome, you can play the intervals you want to play without building different guitars!

  • very very nice music!

  • i guess this is pretty cool... except you could just remove the frets from your guitar instead...

or make the frets movable as you play, like on a lute.

a very impractical solution to a problem solved many ages ago.

  • This guy is a genius. I wish I had a guitar like this.

  • Shut up and take my money!

  • Great idea, I want one! Are you sure about the third of Rast though? 14 cents just makes it a just intonation major third . . . I thought it was lower. I more familiar with Arabic music, where it is definitely lower, but I've never heard anyone suggest that the Rast third in Turkish music was just a JI major third.

  • güzel prizler

  • And if you didn't notice there's also 8 strings..

  • this instantly made me feel as if I know nothing of music theory.

  • you can tune a guitar, but you can't tuna fish.

  • seems like a better idea just to get a fretless

  • @fuck668 or to build one

  • @fuck668 very original idea though idea though

  • That's a really neat fretboard design!

  • awesome dude, major props!

  • İnanılmaz bir enstürmanla, inanılmaz bir performans en içten saygılarımı sunuyorum.

  • Perdesiz gitar diye birşey var..Onu çalamayanlar için ideal evet.

  • What impressed me is that it's not a techno-gimmick. He's playing real music that reaches me.

  • Oh, and rmorteg, the idea of "off notes" may be nothing new, but did you notice the content of this video at all? The guitar's frets? This is not a video describing how micro-tonal notes are new. He clearly stated that this music was centuries old. It's about the GUITAR DESIGN. Now you can CHOOSE to play a micro-tone without detuning the whole string all the way up and down the fretboard.

  • Most technicians lack playing skill, due to spending all their time in tech world. This guy has both traits, and it's the best case, because he can find real-world guitar-playing concerns and use them to develop meaningful solutions. Too bad western culture doesn't understand the idea of "off-pitch" notes in music, except as "occasionally-forgivable mistakes".

  • Awesome. Thanks for sharing:)

    Grandma Mary

  • Yeah. Its called the thirteenth sound or something julian carrillo named it. Microtones are nothing new. Anyone who bends or slides notes can hear the "microtones. " Seems like a lot of ta-da over old news.

  • That's fucking awesome, I didn't know this concept even existed. It sounds out of tune and in tune at the same time. Really cool

  • Wow, your playing is soo beautiful and real. I envy you (in the best way possible) . really beautiful..

  • Great work, thanks for develop the music!

  • Is there somewhere I could buy a guitar like this?

  • Lol and I play normal 6 string. This is amazing stuff bro you are talented.

  • Fuck normal guitars, I want this one sooooooo bad

  • that was awesome such interesting sounds

  • wow I never thought that a couple of cents difference would make so much difference in terms of how the scale sounds.....

  • Awesome :D

  • the guitar world desperately needs more new ideas like this. great!

  • Wonderful! Interesting Guitar

  • This is truly incredible!

  • love the part at 4:44 reminds me a lot of Game Of Thrones intro song

  • This is not a guitar anymore...and what he plays is not music. Ricardo Moyano captured Turkish folk spirit much better without any microtones. But this...even if it had 1000 microtones it would not work. This guy did not get the point.

  • @hideare you can see Ricardo gets the microtones by bending the strings less than a half step and the guy is just showing his guitar man, calm down

  • im now turned on and am going to get a conversion done

  • NO MAMES.. PUTO TERRORISTA.. TOCAS BIEN VERGA!

  • @pendehassen

    que lenguaje ...

  • @theopaopa1 hay eso que!! a que eres vieja! we estoy viendo a este master de la lira de oriente y tu cagando el palo por eso XD! HAHAHA CAILE MORRA!

  • @pendehassen Inculto.

  • @FloseHD la puta que te pario!

  • @pendehassen Vacío mental

  • @The000Roy Cause it's an eastern music characteristic.Thats what makes it different from western music.

  • Ingenious design and you deserve praise for your accomplished playing. The microtones are mind and ear-bending. Do you have CDs of your playing?

  • 7:35 guy plays the guitar

  • that's so inspirational! AWESOME!

  • 07:17 GH3 MOST DIFFICULT SONG.... REMEMBER??

  • fantastic

  • you are a genious you knew that !

  • emena pantws mou 8umizei malama!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • with that guitar I could play oriental things without learn the harmonic minor scale

  • you could make some freaking sweet doom metal with an electric version of this XD

  • @tmayne220 jesus fuck, that's the last thing I expected to read here, but I totally agree with you.

  • türkiye seninle gurur duyuyor. hemen patentini al yoksa calarlar fikrini.

  • WOW!!

  • Or we could all train our ears to play microtonal music by simply bending the string. Awesome guitar and musician tho.

  • çok başarılı tebrik ederim. tavsiye olarak 6 telli hatta 4 telli versiyonları olursa kullanım talebini arttırır diye düşünüyorum. tekrar tebrikler.

  • oh my lantis.......i never knew of this mircotonal music makes perfect sense though why should we only entitled too whole tone music

  • dostum güzel çalıosun tekniğin güzel fakat ingilizceyi sana öğreten hocanın ;:D:D:D

  • u are a crazy man! :) good music

  • Can you tell me the name of the first piece you are playing ? Thank you .

  • I found this fascinating to listen to and watch, wow I love your customised guitar, thank you for uploading!

  • Por fin oigo música

  • OK so this is cool and innovative and awesome, but wouldn't no frets be easier? I'm not trying to rain on anybodys parade here but, I just don't get it

  • @j0sh1888 It is not quite the same. Since the microtones are already set, you can concentrate on other aspects of your performance

  • Wait!!! that's hey Sexy Lady by Shaggy @ 4:42...hahahaha!!!!

  • playing this guitar = 0 chics

  • Hello,

do you have any recordings of the pieces in this video, so that i can buy them?

    yours sincerely

  • How much would a guitar like that cost? How can i get a guitar such as yours. Do you have more information about microtonal music or microtonal harmony. Thank you very much! Loved your work!

  • que gran talento!

    muy buena la guitarra

  • Great design, great sound!

  • great playing , my guitar is also microtonal i just hawe to bend

  • @MrHaakon386 but it would sound differently, and how many strings can you bend at the same time? To get exactly the microtones you want?

  • ellerine sağlık

  • amazing! greetings to my turkish brothers/sisters from greece. i wish our music was as good as yours. peace...

  • FILL ALL THE CHANNELS

  • Someone give this to Pierre Bensusan, ASAP.

  • My classical guitar sounds just like that, when the strings are 2 years old and the frets have been worn down almost to the fingerboard!

  • i really like the lowered 7th. at 09:45 it doesn't sound that sharp

  • wow...i'm breathless...spechless..i've never heard a beautiful music like yours...you're really a master!!! i would like to play guitar like you! bye from italy!!

  • His technique kind of reminds me about technical death metal.

  • @Gandalf930 As well it should!

  • amazing

  • do you have "black earth" here en youtube?

  • MUSIC IS A SCIENCE...

  • Amazing

Your recording would sound better with the removal of some lower frequencys

    on my set up anyway.

  • @gbtayc I was listening in headphones

It sounds great on my stereo speakers

  • A fabulous instrument, and wonderful playing - bravo! This should set the new standard for guitar making and playing.

  • Dude I have trouble with the intonation of 6 strings.... this stuff just blows my mind...1:50 thru 2:05 goodness WHY?!? musically we don't need this

  • Beautiful music and playing, awesome design! well done. =D

  • Whats the name of the song played in the beginning? Thanks!

  • I'm at a loss for words. I've never quite heard anything like this before.

  • Microtones discovery was all thanks to Julian Carrillo Mexican composer, when he played fydaida I started head banging that was awesome!

  • I could tell pretty fast that this guy is a lot smarter than me

  • You're great, guy ;) That's an invention really smart!

  • The more I listen to microtonal music, the more boring the traditional western half-tones sound to me...

  • @ONeirda You should listen to Byzantine and Persian music, there you can see THE microtones.Copy paste this

it is a good video ΒΥΖΑΝΤΙΝΟ ΗΧΟΩΡΩΜΑ or this Greek Music Byzantine Echohroma

  • Your innovation is brilliant, and your playing is very engaging! I am very interested in investigating these sliding frets, and I have a couple questions:

When the frets wear down, how do you replace them? Do you take them to a luthier to be re-crowned?

    Are similar guitars commercially available?

    Thank you in advance!

  • amaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaazing

  • gitar ve sanatta bana yeni bir ufuk açtınız.teşekkür ederim

  • excellent work! For once someone who has done some serious thinking about microtones, thanks!!

  • You are a genius my friend!

  • why don't you invest in an echo chamber? it might help. There is not enough echo in the audio.

  • super calmissin muhtesem olmus devamini bekleriz

  • Good idea but it had already been invented in mexico by Julian Carrillo in the early 20th.. check him out

  • @akatoxkatl He does not claim to have invented it.

  • gitar tamam birazda ingilizceyi geliştir kralsın.

  • Absolutely fantastic and wonderful playing. I bow to you genius.

  • жульбан

  • Love it! Just fantastic! Very elegant design. Wonderful to hear Maqam available to a guitarist :-) (I really like `oud)

This is a super idea. I really hope you can gain market traction with it. Did you patent the fretboard features?

  • that's exactly what I need a movable frets guitar

  • @ 8:20 .. Damn Sexy Playing...wow...

  • What's amazing is that you've found a way to harmonize makams and it sounds very natural.

  • I would be lost on this fretboard without a GPS.

  • my crazy and clever friend !

    all the best, ever

    :)

  • Microtones add so much more colour to music. Great solid playing by the way.

  • Great!! Thank you for this great insight into microtones and an incredible invention for us all. Your playing is beautiful by the way!!

    Brilliant!

  • Can I buy one!

  • Rather brilliant solution. Like it a lot.

  • love how you throw duff notes in now and again. Things being in tune is so yesterday.

  • Fidaydayı napmışsın hocam ya:) Ellerine sağlık. Bayıldım...

  • oh my, this is amazing.. O.o

  • Hello Tolgahan, Very interesting guitar and wonderful music !!! thanks for sharing :)

  • That is quite badass.

  • yemin ederim, aklima gelmisti! :) aferin gencadam! :)

  • çok iyi bir sistem olmuş başarılar türk müziği ilerliyor

  • Abi sen naptın ya :s

  • Fantastic concept, amazing playing and beautiful music! Thanks Mr. Cogulu!

  • kutlarım

  • cool innovation, not sure what purpose it has as far as microtonality goes, why would anyone want to listen to music intentionally out of tune? Microtones are just out of tune. Maybe I am missing something?

  • @Astrochronic you have to listen for a while, i think :) microtonal music is not something just understandable easily. but this is not a "microtonal music or eastern music is greater than other" staff. both have their own spirit and both can make me cry :D

  • @Astrochronic microtones are not out of tune. It's just that western music is so simplified that when westerners hear microtones they think, "that's out of tune", when in reality, microtonal music, such as most eastern music, just has many more notes to work with, therefore many more musical possibilities.

  • @Astrochronic haha, you're completely missing the point. All music is just "musical noise", as you put it

  • @Astrochronic What part was "musical noise"?

  • @Astrochronic what is "tune" by the way ?

  • @worstofthebeast there are a couple of them. most anatolian folk songs; quite old ones.

  • @SokSa kardeşim türksen ingilizce yazmam saçma ama öyle devam etmekte yarar var gibi. - i mean, music is a concept that existed consistenly; either before the tune or after the tune . nature has a music itself, if you create a high detailed note chart, you can even tune the natural sounds. tune is an abstract fact, like geometry. . and after i read your comment once more, the answer you gave is also irrelevant with the exact meaning of quesiton.

  • @Astrochronic 12 tone equal tempered (reglur music) music is generated by products of frequencies by 2^(1/12). It is the end result of a century or so of mean tone tunings, which were approximations of scales and chords usin small number ratios like 3/2, 4/3, 8/5, and so on. We're just so used to 12 tone equal temperament that we don't understand the meanin of smaller or different intervals.

  • @Astrochronic It is definetely not out of tune. Check baglama, saz, oud, kanun. All are the insturments that has more than 12 notes in an octave... indian, chinese, egypt, turkish, iranian etc. countries have that so called "microtones" in their music... Think about fretless guitars... You have a chance to use those microtones on fretless guitars. But the thing is, you just don't. But they're there ;)

  • @Astrochronic Now I've just noticed another comment. Think about blues.. When you do the bending, till you catch the correct pitch, you basically play the microtones. Sometimes you just can't bend enough to the correct pitch, but that doesn't bothers you much.

  • great work mate . really advanced

  • that's pretty neat - i've never seen a guitar like that before

  • This is one of the best videos I've seen on YouTube. You're inventive, skillful, interesting and informative. Oh, and the video is in HD!

What more could you ask for?

  • Thanks for the email, Mr. Cogulu. I loved hearing about this. I often have wondered what a good way to play microtones might be on the guitar, usually resorting to string bending or pushing the string flat/pulling it sharp. Love that concept design guitar!

  • VERY interesting concept!

  • Just one asshole gave this amazing vid. thumbs down..i whish i could track that jerk down so that I can put my thumbs down his or hers ass and make them play this well.

    LOL

  • Araştıran geliştiren ve ortaya güzel bir sonuç koyan Tolga Bey i kutlarım.Harika bir çalışma..

  • azım açık izledim mest oldum valla hatta aklım şaştı gerçekten hellal olsun tebrikler

  • gurur duydum.

  • I want that guitar ! that's amazing ! wonderful playing too!
