uhm You are not answering my question. If you see the footage, the guy from the tower clearly warned them to get out of peruvian territory otherwise they would force to show them down, thats when the Peruvian Air Force airplane came which they did not open fire.
Clearly, CIA is taking accion after what? 9 years......... That's one of a thousand reason why Peru and most countries in the World "Hate America"
The problem here was people made a mistake, didnt follow procedure, and lied about it. It has no relation to policies controlling drug trafficking, terrorism/homeland security, or CIA just wanting to piss all over you.
The remedy is to charge those involved. There is no real solution.
The root problem is humans. You cant fix it. What you need to look at is the cost of ruined lives and families from gang violence, heavy drug use, etc. It isnt the drug that kills most the time. Its people.
I saw the uncut video (1 hr) on PBS some years ago. The person in charge was a commander from the CIA. He gave the order to open fire and he later ratified it. The only person with professionalism at ALL times was the Peruvian pilot who asked at least 4 times to confirm the order to shoot. The informality on the CIA plane was pathetic and the video here shows selective parts to make it look like is a share responsibility, but the person in charge who says twice “OK” was the American commander.
@BillKiernan Obviously you DID NOT see the complete tape as I did. The talk you hear was an internal discussion on the CIA plane and could not be heard by the Peruvian pilot. Also, he FIRST did give the order to shoot which is not seen on this video, then he has misgivings but ultimately he says “OK” and that is what set things in motion. There was another Peruvian you hear in the tape and he is a CIA contractor also on the CIA plane. Also the CIA paid an undisclosed amout in compensation
@tresaq11 and regardless, it's peruvian airspace. it's their call. sorry but the peruvian armed forces are among the most incompetent in the world. pretty much have never won a victory in their history. poorly trained, ancient equipment, etc. they're not professionals. i understand the CIA is partially to blame, but yeah, i'd have to see the full tape, as you say you have.
@BillKiernan : First of all, I am not Peruvian, so save your breath. There are five voices in the video. The Commander, the Pilot and a Peruvian civilian contractor were on the CIA plane. Then there is the Peruvian Air Force Controller and the Fighter Pilot. Most of the conversation is internal to the CIA plane. In spite of his doubts and under pressure from the Peruvian contractor, the Commander ultimately says "OK". He was weak, and he will live the rest of his life regretting it.
@tresaq11 "First of all, I am not Peruvian" didn't say you were. "the Commander ultimately says "OK"." he's not the commander of the operation for one, again, the peruvians are in command as to shoot or not shoot. also, he aborts his suggestion and tells them to stop, and they don't stop. i'm not fan of the CIA, at all. i'm not a "rah rah america fuck yeah" kind of guy, at all. but the title of this video is bullshit, period.
@BillKiernan :I admit that did not pay attention to the title. In trying to be objective, I agree is not accurate, and there was not much of a coverup. I live in DC and the whole tape was broadcast on PBS some years ago. It was priorly announced and I would guess that was part of the settlement between the cia with the Bowers family. The amateurish environment on the cia plane is outrageous. The AF pilot was brought in very early and it took some time to go from Level1 thru Level3 (open fire)
@tresaq11 yes, the whole thing is ridiculous and disgusting, on that we can agree. i mean, CIA operatives working in PERU and NONE of them speak spanish!?!? i mean come on, what a joke. pretty much this is the case of incompetance on a major scale for both the cia and peruvian military.
@BillKiernan Yes, that is why they had the Peruvian liaison on the plane. He was the main instigator in this tragedy, he wanted blood. But, is clear the order to shoot could not be given without consent from the Commander. Initially the three had agreed on Level3, then the AF pilot asks confirmation several times (might had misgivings too). During that period is all this discussion and doubts expressed by the Comm and the CIA pilot. The order to abort comes after the missionaries report shoots.
@BillKiernan Exactly, is an unwinnable war, as much as the prohibition was. Not sure if the uncut tape is somewhere available, but it is absolutely outrageous from beginning to end. When you think how casual they were about deciding on matters of life and death. Yesterday the Peruvian newspaper El Comercio (elcomercio.pe) had an entry on a report by the cia being released under the FOIA and that 16 agents were censured as a result of the incident, and a total of 15 airplanes were shoat down.
@BillKiernan if you think so, show me proves, because i know Peruvian government does not work with the CIA, there are more important things happen in Peru right now than getting friendly with the USA or CIA. The New President of Peru and the ex from 2001 to 2005 doesn't have any relationship USA. other Latin countries and Russia.
Sorry that i expressed myself like that. I was having a hard time trying to get all this and finding reasons.
@metesables it's the peruvian air force, are you saying someone from the air force was not operating under proper orders, and just decided to randomly help the CIA?
Uhh news flash. They told the Peru Air Force not to attack them and they did it anyway. Whether or not they are working with the CIA is not the issue, the fact is, they said not to shoot.
@Spkn07 : Obviously you DID NOT see the complete tape as I did. The talk you hear was an internal discussion on the CIA plane and could not be heard by the Peruvian pilot. nice stats,,,not sure where you got them from,,,crime rate isnt even in the t op ten but shows our police are far superior to any other c ountries,,health care is the best there is in the w orld,,9th in the w orld as far as "fattest" goes,,,most technology in the w orld c omes from america,,but hey you got one thing right a lot of us are arrogant but we s hould be ,,not sure where your from but more power to you
Yeah, the crime rate isn't so bad in the states, especially recently, but they're still throwing more people in jail - so much for "freedom". From my observations, the police in the US are sometimes less than professional. They are also everywhere.
WHO ranks US healthcare at 37th, Japan, at 10. Having used both, I'd say Japan is better overall (as well as 1/3 or less the cost). What makes you think US healthcare is the best? Most expensive doesn't equal "best".
LOL! As I wrote, based on my experience, I can confirm that the WHO stat is accurate.
It's amusing the way Americans think the US system is the best when most have nothing to compare it to (except the propraganda from the insurance and pharma industries).
This isn't the cause of any "american system." The CIA is unconstitutional. The is a problem with the foreign governments that america models their own government off of.
So auspiciously, they were just trying to murder some coke smugglers? Uh, maybe we should have a policy of not trying to take anybody's lives. Couldn't they have just followed the plane to it's landing point and arrested the suspects there? Come on... How many people have to die????
anyone else would be charged with party to the crime,
which was quad murder. this is probably a normal day in other countries where our great patriotic american empire is operating. are you proud of what your flag stands for ?
What's truly sad is that this is just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to the CIA's role in the deaths of innocent people.
With Obama having the right to target americans for assassination with no trial, no ability to contest the allegations, we should be asking whether or not the inteligence network can effectively make these determinations in a fair and just manner, putting aside the moral and legal questions.
Imo, it's 3 strikes against (on moral, legal, and operational grounds).
