Well, has anyone really studied the biological functions of a vampire's body? I'm guessing they use all that they ingest since they don't actually have any waste substances in their body, so if they drink blood they probably have some sort of storing mechanism. Like when you don't eat for a while, your body goes into starve-mode, enabling you to cope. So according to that he DOES have blood in his body... just varying amounts.
