Both my brother David and I are going to Afghanistan in the New Year. Our dad did 2 tours in Northern Ireland with the battalion we're serving in now. We were lucky boys - we got our dad back in one piece and alive - some of our mates lost their fathers.

I am an ex squaddie from the 70's an 80's with 7 active tours of Northern Ireland and involved in some right old riots, trust me some of the best people I have spoken to where in Ireland. I'm an ex-squaddie from the 70's with 7 tours of N/Ireland and I must admit that I met many local Irish people, I would say the majority of them are fantastic people.
Most of them didn't like the troubles in Ireland they just put up with it , the ones that where fighting , fought for what they believed in (They are entitled to), we fought for the Government (We where told to).
