  • This tank is old now . it's out of service and it doesn't better than the new generation of the modern tanks.

  • Designed in 1951 and produced in 1963 truly a great machine

  • У меня на таком дядька служил.

Рассказывал, что не просто танк, а сказка!

  • Awesome. Very few people realize a T-72 is just a cheap Knock off of this tank. And was initially designed to support this tank.

  • I remember seeing the film footage Russia released of those and the T-72's and all their capabilities. I was like, why weren't our American Patton tanks sleek and advanced like those tanks? M-60 at the time were massive! 3 meters tall, while T-64/T-72 were just over 2 meters. That and we were still using the 105mm main cannons (Well, Britain was using their rifles 120mm) But still, Hearing about a possible fight with 125mm guns. Like WWII, 75mm vs 88mm

  • cool is this there modern tank or the old one they used during ww2

  • @halo4019 It was designed in early 60s, and its still in use around the world. In Russia its mostly stored in strategic reserve, with some in use.

  • @halo4019 it was used by 1960s

  • RUSSIAN TANK DESIGNER are kind people. who wants to look at an M1A1 US abram tank? i can stare at a T72 all day or a T-62 all week long and not get tired. the bad guys make good tanks. the tiger, the panther, the jagpanther etc ....do you wanna look at a boring sherman tank for 20 minutes? the germans are generous people. more people would wanna know more about the BISMARCK than your typical US AIRCRAFT CARRIER

  • This tank could have ripped through any tank in the world. If the Soviets were to ever invade Europe, this would have been the time.

  • The T-64 would have been a fearsome tank had the USSR ever invaded europe. No tank in the 70's could really compare to it.

  • Out of curiosity, did this tank ever see combat anywhere?

  • T-64B with 1A33 'Ob' FCS was best MBT in the world in the end of 70's. A few problems with early T-64 models was a result of

    1) manufacturing unreadiness

    2) service unreadiness (which the most)

because T-64 has revolution design for it's time.

  • Its too good to be exported. Sorry guys..

  • If the T-64 did not have problems they would not have made the T-72.

  • @IVANGROZNEY No t-64 is much better, the problem with t-64 is that its a very expensive tank compared with t-62, or t-55, so soviet high command decided to develop a tank that has all battle qualities of t-64 yet cheaper. Ealry versions of t-72 were very bad. T-72 ural and t-72A were given to countries such as iraq and syria and egypt almost for free. T-72B and t-80 are probably better than t-64.

  • Bull$hit. The T64 had many problems. It was ahead of the avalable technology and looked good on paper.

  • @IVANGROZNEY Well, okay name one...

  • The turbine engine was highly un relaible. The comunication and guidance systema to not perform as the were supposed to. The adertised top speed would tear up the track that wre not up to the powere of the motor. The gun could kill at the range specified but it would be a total luck shot because the aiming devices and the accuacy of the gun did not perform as as clamed. The biggest problem was the drive system that was real fast for the time but could not perform for any any kind of duration.

  • The T-64 didn't have a turbine engine. It had an odd 5 cylinder 10 piston engine with dual crankshafts at opposite ends of the cylinders. They got out of sync often, but did give high compression, and a very compact package, at the expense of a very unreliable transmission

  • @IVANGROZNEY

    ...

    stupid comment..

    because of the technological progress..

  • when you are talking about the T-64 you will mostly encounter the word "first".

first composite armor, first autoloader on a tank, first time not just IR searchlights but actual night vision sights, first basic ballistic computers, first time fully stabilised !125mm gun, first time fully stabilised sights...

    all T-64

  • Who USSR? They lost coz they collapsed..

not because their tank divisions are badly trained compared to West.

  • Iraq ,hahahahahaha, their tank crews were dump fucks.

T-64 is a good piece of machine, nicely build.I bet my ridiculous salary that with modern electronic suit and properly trained crew it can go toe to toe with M1A2,L2A6 and any other .

  • How much do you earn? :)

  • enough to keep me happy.

  • @GeneralPaccepa Not much,that's why I bet it ! :D

  • @ludgidia123 T64 is not exported. and exported T62 T55 T72 and other shit, from which the shot sight stabilization system. that's luck for the Yankees, T64 can trample in the mud any tank.

  • @ludgidia123 T64 is not exported. it was a secret tank.

  • @ludgidia123

hahahahahaha, their tank crews were dump fucks

exactly like you M1, L2 lover. Only moron can compares tank desiged in '60 with tank desiged i '80. It's so fucking clever like comparing tits of your mother with tits of your girlfriend.

  • @ludgidia123 The T-64 couldn't (at least, not very well), but it's successor, the T-80 and its variants could.

  • T-64 NEVER were exported to Iraq or to anyone else.

  • i am talking about the whole series...

  • Many of these "T" series tanks were far ahead of Western tanks at the time they came out. Even when they were bested by US and Western Euro designs which had better armor and main guns/ammo, one fact remains, the Soviets had over 50 armor divisions against 9 with the US and Europe. The math is obvious, stopping that much steel would have been impossible on the ground alone. Maybe(and a BIG maybe, air power might have stopped that much. If not, it would/could have gone TAC Nuke.

  • T-64 was the first tank with composite armour, so you can bet your ass that it's RHe thickness was greater.

  • I have read many tank books and they all said the frontal armour is 200mm thick. If there was a real battle you could get in your obsolete soviet tank and better yet i would get in a nashorn tank destroyer with the same 88mm gun but with only 30mm of armour plating and probably still win so check your facts before you comment.

  • You're obviously not making a difference between physical thickness and RHe thickness. RHe thickness is a stat given for composite armour and represents the thickness of the tank's armour if it was made of rolled homogenous steel used for construction of tanks to the end of 1950's.

  • T-64s RHe thickness is 400mm on the turret and 335mm on the front hull against KE penetrators. Against HEAT thickness is 500mm and 420mm respectively.

So were talking about a tank that has 42 tonnes compared to Tiger's 57 tonnes, and has more than twice the protection of the Tiger.

  • Those estimates are towards the high end of the scale I have seen. the real details are unknown, but there were several variants of T-64.

Very advanced tank for it's day, but as also unreliable.

Either way it seems likely that all but early T-64s had an advantage over the T-72 and T-72A in armor. The T-72B however, and the T-80U outclassed it however.

  • No tank has equal thickness on armour on all sides as well as not having equal thickness on all parts of those sides.

And you are right, T-64 was better than T-72, until T-72B came out when armour is concerned. But T-64 had an autoloader that was more prone to malfunction then the autoloader on T-72. That and the way the propelant charges were stored inside the autoloader were one of the reasons why T-90 was chosen as the main MBT of Russian Army.

  • nothing better than russian military equipment

  • t-64 exists, it was never exported to other countries, it was also called a revolutionary tank, you could say that t-80 and t-72 are its children. They all somewhat look the same.

  • Lolololo... What an idiot

  • There is T-64

  • first its t-64 t-72 look like t-64 but its not t-72 t-64 was the 60s best tank because of it autoloader... first tank with autoloader..

  • when you are talking about the T-64 you will mostly encounter the word "first".

first composite armor, first autoloader on a tank, new ("first") generation of engine design (more compact than the V type), first reactive armor on a tank, new ("first") generation of ammunitions, first tank with a 125mm gun, first time fully NBC protected. all T-64

  • Well, isn't that exactly what "Communist Brother" means? I mean, Egypt has the latest model Abrams tank (M1A2), and plenty of them. But you think we consider them our brothers? Do you think they consider US their brothers? Not in a thousand years. They sure aren't our Capitalist Brothers.

"Communist brother" is just political lingo for the same cooperative measure, like "freedom" and "liberating". Just words, nothing else.

  • Egypt??? M1A2

dude, I doubt Americans would sell away A2, maybe you're talking about M1?

  • Sooo right. the M1A2 is the latest in American tank enginering

  • lolz, no matter how well a tank is built, it will be easily destroyed by a jet. haha, true facts

  • Pretty much (and true for all tanks). 'Course, tanks are a lot cheaper (a LOT cheaper) and they can just sit there and do their job (unlike planes). Hence, why they're more popular worldwide.

  • LOL fail dude, your ur telling lies.........

i can tell you a true fact, the Leopard 2A 6m is protected by the newest and most modern AMAP-ADS (APS - Active Protection System) this system kills all incoming missiles and projectiles/warheads with directed energy beam (Laser). it can also defeat multi-attacks to the short reaction time of less than 1 millisecond.. what people don't get is, the german tanks are like from other planets, they ARE NOT THAT CRAPPY LIKE THE OLD OUTDATED RUSSIANB ONES!

  • Do you happen to have any military experience or maybe worked in a tech laboratory?

  • You probably could have worded your argument a little bit better.

But I wouldn't disagree in that the Leopard 2A is a perfectly good tank.

  • @gunmetalxXx ok there you obviously have no understanding of directed energy. quit throwing arounf techy terms to make yourself seem smart. you babbling moron.

  • Same sequences looped over and over. Do you have any with WWI tanks?

  • T-64 first tank in the world featuring composite armour and autoloading system

  • What made it famous was its Turbine engine....

  • Original T-64 was not equipped with turbine engine. It's T-80 - first tank with GDE 1100 HP, initially it's been installed on T-64 but undercarriage of T-64 couldn't comply with additional HP, so the chassi had to be completely replaced, thus the T-80 MBT has been introduced.

  • Comment removed

  • @IgoRAZ12345 composite armor was first used on German tanks

  • @IgoRAZ12345 Only the front was composite. The rest was steel.

  • You don't get it at all. The whole "communist brother" BS was just a front- certain countries were closer allies, and under more direct control, while others, like Iraq, are unpredictable and questionable middleastern countries. As such, some countries could be trusted with better tech, while others couldn't. It wasn't like the Iraquis weren't told they were getting the export version.

  • Show the evidence, please: a pic of a destroyed T-64 in Iraq would do. Otherwise, we have no reason to believe you vs. a bunch of experts.

  • Is the T-64 still in service with the Russian Army?

  • They are currently stockpiled by the russian army, reserves.

  • @GeneralPaccepa

Older equipment such as T-55 and even T-34/85 are still in reserve stockpile as well, is that correct?

  • @alongthebluff T-34/85s only ceased production in 1993. There are still some in the reserve inventories of many countries and there is even a modernization kit available. With better optics and a new engine and applique armor thee tank will make a very good light tank for small countries. The gun is still considered an excellent weapon for its size. There are many T-55s around the world and in Russia they're used for training and in anti terrorist activities.

  • @GeneralPaccepa Это основной боевой танк украинской армии,

так как Харьковский завод после распада СССР остался в Украине!

  • @ihaveissues20 with upgraded accessories, yes.

  • Look at 00:30. He is burning.

  • The tanks in this video are early ones, with coincidence rangefinder, and some with "gill" armour protecting the sides.

  • It was also the first main battle tank to fire a guided missile through the gun.

    It wasn't exported because:

    1. It was the high-technology breakthrough tank which replaced heavy tanks, reserved for its superiority. Even the rank-and-file T-72 was only exported to non-Warsaw Pact countries in an inferior "monkey model" version.

    2. It had long-term teething problems with the autoloader, gun, and engine, and kept top secret to save embarrassment. Hard to confirm, of course, due to secrecy.

  • I am not convinced of this "monkey model" story any more. I remember it circulated in the 1970's, but wouldn't it be more reasonable to believe nowadays that the top tank was T-64, and T-72 was itself what the Soviet tankers meant when they referred to a "monkey model"? Of course, there was a range of models of T-72 around, but exactly what would have been the "downgradings"?

  • You don't have to "believe stories", smart one. If you look at the Nizhny Tagil Ural Vagon Zavod factory records and specs, you see that there are special T-72 modifications for export, and they do not carry the same electronics and equipment as the russian tanks. Their guns are of older models and don't fire the same range of ammo. Some can't fire missiles. They aren't truly downgradings-just stuff like laser rangefinders, IR targeting, ERA, were mounted only on domestic models. Thats a fact.

  • Maybe the ones built in Romania were only a little worse(no offense). But the ones built in Iraq and Iran and North Korea were just pure shit with weakened armor worse electronics, and far less reliable engines.

  • This tank is great but the T-72 is also a remarkable tank. And i mean the real T-72 built in Nizhny Tagil Uralvaginzavod. Not a cheap copy built in Romania or Iraq. The T-64 was better protected then the T-72 and it had a higher speed and range. They were the same in terms of firepower, and the T-72 was more reliable it also had better offroad quality and it was cheaper to build. But nonetheless they are bought remarkable tanks.

  • You think that a T-72 tank built in Romania is not good enough as one built in the Urals?

  • The mighty and mythological T64. I call it mythological, because in the west it was believed to be a myth and confused with the T72. This tank far out classed all tanks it the world when it came out! It was very fast (75km/h) very manuarable, powerful and well armored! It made any western tank obsolete, and it was superior then the T72, except for the T72mb.

  • The T-64 was the first in the world to feature an automatic loader enabling the crew to be cut from four to three - commander, gunner and driver. Other advanced features included a sophisticated multi-layer protection, NBC protection system, new layout of the power pack compartment, etc.

  • This Tank was actually way ahead of it's time, and according to my readings, it out classed it's western rivals when it came out!!! There is a game called RED ALERT 2, and it involves the Soviets vs the the allies. The main soviet tank is called the "Rhino" and it's very good. My friend works used to work for Westwood and he told me they got the Idea for the Rhino from the T64.

  • This was and still is an amazing tank! I didn't know about it until a decade ago. Nobody really knew about because it was never exported and kept only for the Soviet Forces...not even to Warza Pact countries! In fact this tank was far superior then the newer T72! The T64 is actually the predecessor of the mighty T80! Allthough studies were made and the T80 is not that far better then the T64!

  • One of my all-time favorites, one of the most beautiful tanks ever designed.

  • Nope its not rare, but it was designed to be used in soviet forces only. The WP countries never got to use this tank. About 13000 were made.

  • Well, it was never exported beacuse in fact it was a state of the art vehicle, being superior to the T72 in many ways, without sharing its lot of bugs. It is considered as dangerous as the T80.

  • Dont known, but the only resoan why I think is couse it was a new achviemt with the auto and its better than T-72

  • Footage is rare due to the T-64 never being exported.

  • Why has it never been exported?

  • It was too good... the russians kept them for them selves and exported the inferior t-72

  • WHy are the footages repeating?

  • soviet style, to create the ilusion of many many tanks

  • there is not much film of the the T-64 Tank shame. good tank for its time

  • Sweet. Footage of the T-64 seem very rare, and this is among the first Ive seen.
