Iv been casting EZflo120 for a few months and this is the first time i have seen baby powered used in the mould just before casting.
im working on a project that will involve painting (you can find this on the (EffectsLab) website. "Animatronic Alien Head" Anyway i would like to use this technique of powder coating the mould before casting, but i will also need a "smooth shiny" finish on certain areas. would you recommend just sanding these smoother areas down after casting?
@chahueto I think I answered your question on another video comment thread but here it is again: I have not tried casting EZ Flo 120 into a latex mold so I do not know. I have customers who have done casting like that but I have no idea what release they used.
i'm trying to reproduce a vinyl shifter boot for an automobile, which was originally made in a rotational mold. Do you know the best way to make a metal mold from the original vinyl piece?
You have an excellent speaking voice and keep the explanation moving with the video. Great video I learned something today, thank you.
Oh one more thing, could I make my composter barrel with this method? or do I need a heated rotomolder in an oven?it is on you tube "rotating composter barrel" (the blue one)
Oooo. I get to be first...But I have a question: What is the purpose of this device in terms of the materials that need it? Previously in these demonstration films, we have seen an EZFlo 120 rotational casting - What do any of these methods do for your finished part or effect? It seems like a seriously complex piece of equipment for a monster mask.
Indeed. The swamp thing was just the most handy and interesting mold we had. This is used to make all kinds of hollow castings as the machine creates a very uniform thickness of resin. Multiple molds may also be loaded on to the machine at the same time.
i tell ya, you did right in using Plat-Cure Silicone for the mold. i HATE using tin-cure silicone for molds! TIN-CURE SUCKS!!!

@innerbreed If you want areas to be shiny, don't powder them. The powder will transfer to the cast part for a matte surface.

is the finished product hollow? if so about how thick is the shell? how sturdy is it? can you use some sort of vinyl instead of resin?
sparksmemphis 1 year ago
EZ 120 is a tough, impact resistant resin. This part was about 1/4" thick and very strong.

Metal mold? No. Silicone mold? Yes. We have several videos dealing with silicone moldmaking.
