But, even if you know that his murders were cruel and horrible, you can't really resist him. He is so brilliant, polite and misterious, so that you want to know more about this dangerous person and Clarice Starling is definitely in love with him. I think she's just sad that he escapes because she doesn't know, where she will meet him again!

I heard this and other movies were all based on the life of Ed Gein. What was disturbing about Ed Gein's life was the close relationship he had with his mother and he lost it when she died. Once she was dead Ed started down a path that looks like the movies Psycho and Silence of the Lambs.

it was shown earlier in the film that the boars were trained to eat screaming people (whenever they were given meat a recording of screams was played for them, so that the boars would associate human screaming with eating)

so that's why they only attacked the screaming people and not Hannibal who wasn't screaming.

In the book, it is explained that: "smelling no fear, the pigs went on to the easier prey". If you notice in the film, the boars move up to Lecter, sniff Dr. Lecter's legs and feet, and then move on to the guys who are already laying on the floor bleeding. The "easier prey".
