@seg162 I more got the impression that Pride was already weakened and falling apart from forcing Mustang to transmute, and that being attacked by Ed from the outside and distracted by Kimblee from the inside was too much. You can see a similar interplay between Lin and Greed through the series. Usually the souls that power their philosopher stones are quiescent but there are a few who are able to retain their identity and so affect the homunculus from the inside.

During Ep 62, while they're all bombarding Father, they played a piece from the third soundtrack, which hasn't come out yet, but shares the same theme as this piece. After the eyecatch, they play Next Chapter from the first soundtrack. While everyone's cheering Ed on as he fights with Father and Greed is contemplating his happiness, they're playing Main Theme ~The Full Metal Alchemist~ from the first soundtrack.
