  • oh and this toootaally isnt a dr.steel rip off ... -.-

  • We were going to do this at my school, but apparently we couldn't buy the rights?

  • Brad DeBiase here, I played the Doc in this version two years ago. I think fondly back on the whole experience and am glad at the discussion and comments that have ensued in this forum. Such is art. But a couple things people may be forgetting:

    1) We put this show up in two weeks & zero budget

    2) Live performances lose a good amount of their integrity when documented on film, something that doesn't translate

    3) Thanks to those of you who have found the positive aspects of what we created

  • I was wondering how you guys got permission rights to perform this. I really want my high school to do a version of Dr. Horrible, but since it will be for a drama competition, we need to have permission.

    Thanks for any help forthcoming!

  • I'm thinking about doing Dr. Horrible at my school, but our stage is a fraction the size of yours. How do you suggest we go about it?

    Great, by the way.

  • Where did you get that freeze ray? o.o

  • Great production! The only thing that bothered me was Dr. Horrible sounding a bit gay (NPH is, not his character!), and Penny sounding too bitchy, but those were just a minor niggle in an awesome show. Loved Moist and the Bad Horsemen!

  • "Just a few weeks away from a real... Oh... Audable connection." XD BEST PART YET! XD

  • Comment removed

  • Awesome! I always wondered how to realise the original on stage and I think you did a perfect job!

  • I think the guy sounds too peppy, which just doesn't work for the character. He sounds like someone who probably does a lot musical theater, and can't be natural, cynical, and funny. I think you did a great job with this, but it would have worked better with regular actors who can sing rather than musical theater people.

  • Best Bad horse cowboys I have seen

  • actor for moist remembered his lines perfectly :)

  • Why is it that everybody has to make Dr. Horrible sound way more happy than he is? He's not that perky...

  • This guy's timing is all off... Was there a strict time limit of like 24.67 seconds? He didn't wait at all between lines, just strung them together. Making it seem rushed

  • way less subtle than neil patrick harris but is to be expected from a live stage performance done very well

  • Blah,,, line delivery is waaaaaaaay too fast. too bad.

  • Blah,,, line delivery is waaaaaaaay too fast. too bad.

  • Sorry, but I think he's too confident...that's NOT the Dr. Horrible we know and love. :(

  • I am so shocked at how well the set and technical aspects look, I am sure I will compliment on every video. So I LOVE the set up for the web-blog. Ingenious.

  • SLOW DOWN GUYS!!!!!! THE TEMPO IS TOO FAST!!!!!

  • I love your TV screen to make it more of a blog, great scenery.

  • Oh My God, realy, the cowboys are better than in the original!! XD

  • This is the best performance of Dr.Horrible's Sing-Along Blog to date.

  • @BeatPeet And to think that we were one of the first to do it. And the first with live music for sure.

  • I am planning on doing something similar. How did you get the rights?

  • Hey, my friend and I are planning on producing Dr. Horrible at our school if getting the rights works out as planned. For the Dr.Horrible costume, where did you find a lab coat that buttons up the side like his? Or did you make it?

  • that was O.K. acting was energetic. singing wasn't great but still not bad.

  • this needs work...not very good but quite entertaining..lol

  • The cow boys are hilarious

  • You need to slow down the beginning, but good overall

  • One of the most successfully staged "Laundry Days" I've seen.

I like the acting. Could use a little work, but its good (people who hate it likely don't know what to expect from stage acting.)

Bad horse chorus was of course excellent!

  • I like this Dr Horrible. He's having fun trying to be a villain. You gotta show find the joy. Good job on making the character your own.

  • this is pretty good, not as good as the orginal but still excellent,

  • They all act pretty good, but the cowboys are just awesome.

  • Bad horses cowboys.. omg, purely epic. sounded perfect and had their choreography pretty much perfect. definitely made me rate this 5 stars.

  • Such...horrible...acting....

  • Does any one have information on how to get the rights?

  • I also like it's not dubbed, which Joss Whedon says a lot of them are.

  • We were the first production that was entirely live.

  • I wanted to say this was the most horrible thing in the world, but then realized I was only NPH biased. I'd say this went a little too fast, but it's incredible.

  • I am a NPH lover to, but i think Brad made the right choice in crating a personal, stage-version of Dr. H.

  • Yes, somewhat mostly true.

  • basically this is incredible

  • Dr Horrible is an very hard thing to do, especially with Neil Patrick Harris epic performance but this is quite good! :'D

Makes me wanna set up an musical of Dr Horrible myself :'3

  • I liked the set! I'm doing a production of this is May, I wanted to get a feel about what our set could look like.

  • The set was left over from the previous production in this black box. I was given two choices, either use the existing set, or a plain black box. So I used it. I think the idea of having a "Dr. Horrible's lab" part of the set established is important, and it was cool to let the rest of the stage become other things.

  • bravo! that was great!

  • As opposed to what others are saying, Dr. Horrible is actually okay-- but the direction is genius. And I love the set, as most others do.

  • dr. horrible's over-acting... such a shame

  • I did love the Bad Horse singers, though! They were great.

  • true

  • Double true.

  • the sets are really good, but dr. horrible is not very good.

  • I agree. Totally jealous of the set, but I totally don't buy Dr. Horrible.

I would LOVE to do this at my college, but I doubt I could get enough people behind me.

  • me neither... if dr. horrible were actually horrible then he'd be perfect

  • why isn't he very good? his singing isn't great, but his acting is fine. Just because he doesn't act exactly like NPH dosn't mean he is a bad actor. And Stage acting is different than FIlm and Television. I think he did wonderfully.

  • I think people don't like it because he's too loud and whiny, not the shy, quiet type that Dr. Horrible should be.

  • Unfortunately, shy and quiet in a stage musical translates to boring and bad acting.

  • Well...I don't understand why, really. If someone's good at acting, I think they should be able to convey that same message of shy and quiet.

  • @bsnarski

Maybe if you're a bad actor... It all depends on the performer, the director's vision, whathaveyou. I agree that it definitely CAN translate that way. This kid is alright, just doesn't seem very organic. Far be it for me to judge, but think about how NPH did it. Not to say he should be a copy cat, but it's very fast and jittery. Fun enough to watch though :)

  • @bsnarski this is true, but you gotta show different personalities.

  • @bsnarski No offense it was very good but you should have started out shy and develop the character the audience would have loved it alot more than just someone screaming at them. I think because most of the people who are watching this have seen the original hundreds of time it just seems.. different. But i really really love the special effects.

  • @bsnarski I must disagree. I've had to do that on stage, and did it well. That's according to all the people who watched. And the fact that I was doing better than our lead... hmmm. Not saying that when you do it badly, then it's boring, but if you do it right... good things happen.

  • Being able to do this at my school would be my largest dream come true [/jealous]

  • Gosh, this looks like so much fun. How I wish I could do something like this at my school.

You guys pulled it off brilliantly!

  • so I'm not the only one to come up with the idea to have a live feed of him recording his webcam. :D

  • he talks so quickly...

  • Definitely LOVE the bad horse cowboys! Wow!

  • How much were royalties for this?! I would love to do this at my college!

  • The licensing fee is $150 for the whole run for schools (I'm doing this at MIT). All you need to do is use the web form to contact the webmaster of the Dr. Horrible Official Fan Site. They'll put you in touch with the Project Manager, Rachel Rhee, who will get you the licensing agreement. :-)

  • He needs to slow down. Take his time. I'm not one to talk as I speed when nervous, but yeah. He could be funnier if he took his time with it.

  • comedy is all about timing.

  • That guy dances way too rhythmically to be straight. = P

  • The bad horse cowboys were AMAZING!

  • AHAHAHA!!! They were arguably better than the cowboys in the original. :-D

  • The cowboys have so much potential. I came within an inch of adding an extra verse of the Letter song so they could just dance more.

  • Im hoping to put this show on in the fall with a small group of students. student led for free. how did u get the rights? or how would i go about getting the permission you got to put on an adaptation

  • This is overwhelming, I feel so exposed! But yeah, the thing about this show was that so much of it was left up to chance (props, timing, costumes, etc.) because it was mounted in a mere 3 weeks. But in any event, I'm glad many of you like it. Sorry if I missed the mark for some of you out there...

And just a side note: recorded productions rarely do a live performance justice. Much of the energy is simply lost. But it's cool to have it documented in any event

    Peace...but not literally

    Dr. H

  • we love you brad.

  • This is amazing!

I would LOVE to do this with my University!

    It would be so awesome!

    Great job!

  • Cool :D

  • points for the set but the casting of Dr Horrible? He has bad timing.

  • Ditto.

  • But I think he should get points for not trying to copy Neil Patrick Harris like everyone else does.

  • There's room for variation, but a lot of the humor is in specific reactions.

  • I think he has good timing, especially allowing for a live audience to take time to laugh

  • Very much agreed....part of the greatness of Dr. Horrible is the timing.

  • great job!

  • Nice converses man!

  • I love the way he delivered, "There's...kids...in that park."

  • Sweetness.
