You can be arrested for skating, unlike a bike or feet the skateboard grinding on things slowly wastes away whatever it is grinding it on. Although slowly, this does infact destroy the property. Skaters for some reason always seem to pick private property, which means somebody owns it. It's like destroying someone's home. If it was public property then I'm pretty sure it's okay.
