I read somewhere that she did a lot of radio back in the 30s and she was one of the cast in the 1938 Orson Wells 'War Of The Worlds' broadcast which panicked so many people? Does anyone know if this is true?
@MegaWolfgang Yes, she was a part of that. I think she did some of the screams. If I listen really closely, I think I can hear her. She also did a lot of radio in the 40's-50's. You should check out Suspense with her. She was wonderful on that program.
I always LOVED Agnes Moorhead!!! I've never seen these photos of her so thanks for posting, minus that horrible song. It was well known she was a lesbian but if that is not true how and why did this rumor start???
@fuhoney Sorry you don't care for the song :-P The photos come mostly from duelingheads.tribe.net/ aggiespicturepalace.blogspot.com. As for the matter of her sexuality, I do not remember how that rumor started. Nor do I really care to be quite honest. I believe that a persons sexuality is between them and their lover. So, it's not really something I'm too hung up on.
Agnes had an element of mystery in her acting that kept you glued to her. I think this also kept her from getting type cast. To play Endora was a plateau in her career where she proved that she really could do it all. I always thought she looked kind of hot when she smiles. Or maybe it was the blue eye shadow??
Now that I stop to actual see this tribute, I feel very bad for Agnes. She had so much heartbreak in her life. She was twice married and twice divorced and her only son ran away. Maybe that was why she was so terribly private. Everytime she let another man into her life they broke her heart .
agnes was a beatiful woman and excellente actress. her favorite colour was lyla.. her set in betwitched was painted that colour. she was so good as endora..RIP
I agree ammccoy. There are better things to dicuss about her. I am surprised about all that too. She was just very talented in any medium she worked in. I only try to respond to the actual evidence given rather than rumours without basis.
i dont stop watching betwitched agnes was absolutly brilliant.. beatiful woman, died from cancer.. what amazed me even when she plays endora.. no wrinkles at all.. maybe she was a witch endeed.
Charles Transberg's book on her sheds better light on it. All major evidence is she was not. Her own open gay road manager of 12 years, Quint Benedetti, maintained she was neither lesbian or bisexual. He knew her personally and drove her all across the country for her one woman show where she talked on personal topics to him and he perceived her to be very devout in her faith. I believe he would be the better source of information than speculation.
Quint Benedetti just had a book titled "The Lavendar Lady, My travels with Agnes Moorehead" (more Bewitching than Endora) published my Xlibris. It is a must read for Agnes fans.
Bellfire05 Last I read she told him to leave after finding a gun in his room and he had drug and alcohol issues (hippy life type). He turned up in Switzerland living off Paulette Goddard's "good graces" but that is the last info on him. A huge mystery.
Thank you, it was fun seeing new photos of her :D Yay!!!

Hey,
Does anyone know what ever happened to her adoptive son? It says he ran away but never mentions why or where.
