typical "zetecE" problem IDLE CONTROL VALVE two ways to sort it out get a new one or clean it out WD40 or carb cleaner getting to the ICV is a bit tricky but will take half an hour to an hour depending if you got the right tools to do the job first you want to take off the clean air sensor wires also the inlet pipe to the air box and throttle housing then you will need a 13m socket piece to take the wiring loom and all the plugs off the inlet manifold thats step 1
where do you mean cuz there is no idle control valve on my 98 1.8 zetec it´s done by the ecu and i have problem the car stalling it´s running below 900 rpm 500 rpm now and i have to hold gaspedal
there is an ICV, it's inder the inlet manifold, and is a right buggar to get to, easiest way is from underneath but you can see it from the gearbox side of the engine....just.
Yup thats the idle control valve, Theyre all the same when they get clogged and just rev up randomly on tickover or occasionally just rev their balls off when waiting at lights etc!
there was loads of cars doing this when ford changed the systems over from efi which was as solid as a rock lol god knows why they changed it, anyways the soloution at the time on the now outdated system was to drill a 3mm hole in the throttle butterfly lol great stuff!!
SOLVED. turns out its the icv. (IDLE CONTROL VALVE). take off the air box tube and spray carb cleaner in the little hole to the right. then start it up and it should be fine!
no problem. you may have to spray carb cleaner in the little hole on the right a couple of times a month. its cause the face of the icv gets dirty. any questions just ask.
@cooolcars hey man, im haveing an idle problem with my z.... its a 98 and a 5speed 2l non vct zetec, "junkyard motor with no more than 25000 miles" and i blew my clutch and that took out my crank sensor, got that fixed and now everytime i start it, it will die randomally, itll rev fine, hold revs, and when its idleing it dies, its not the fuel pump or the MAF, and idk if its the icv.... can uhelp cause its pissing me off, i tried EVERYTHING
