I am always impressed to see Subarus in action with its Symmetric All-Wheel Drive Technology. Although this one became stuck very briefly, I am quite sure its ground clearance had a lot to do with it. I am pleased to know that Subaru increased the ground clearance of the 2010 and 2011 Outback from 8.5 to 8.7 inches which might not seem like much but it actually is for a wagon with its already above average capabilities.
im wondering does that Diesel version has LSD in rear as Gasoline ones have? I know there no low gear compared to gas variant but i guess its not much needed since diesel has alot lower 1st gear compared to gas variant. I myself driving 2004 2,5i manual and i live in north europe. havent got stuck yet and been in much worse conditions :) just when wheels start to roll let of the pedal and reverse a bit like you did and its all good again =)
To be honest - I'm not sure for LSD, I'll know in 10-15 days when I lift my car up. I was reading internet forums and this version should have it (so called winter pack) but I'm not 100%. Low range gearbox: well, I'd like to have it especially for descending ;)
Ok so I live in Georgia and we get very little snow but we do get a couple inches in winter. I noticed the You/he turned the VDC off. Is that recommended in the snow?
I can't say that VDC off is recommended but with VDC off computer does not cut off power to the spinning wheel. In slippery conditions (mud or snow) this is the best way not to get stuck.
do the head lights turn when you turn the steering wheel? i have a land rover lr3 and i am trying to get an outback but i need to know on a scale of one to ten how much do you like the car? also do you have to have snow/ winter tires for it to go through 1 foot of snow?

много боишься по неопытности, можно ехать гораздо быстрей по такой дороге =) а в остальном субару лучшая !!!

What would have been REALLY funny is if @ 3;29 a great big Yeti ran out from the trees and pushed you out . . .

BTW: I measured our snow layer today - 17 inches :))

@thebigpoopyguy
No, head lights are HID xenon but they do not turn while steering (I cannot say I miss this functionality at all).
Winter tires help a lot and I in my opinion M+S tires are MUST HAVE in winter conditions (snow+ice+low temp)... of course snow chains are useful :)
I'm really not an average subaru driver... I'm a subaru fan so if you ask me - 10 is the only choice :))) Not helpful, I know :)

What does it have for tires? I am using "Uniroyal Tiger Paw Ice & Snow" studded P205/65R16 (instead of P225/60R16 stock) on my 2000 Subaru Outback.

Yes, it is a diesel.
Well, I shifted into 2nd when I felt I have enough torque and when I felt the surface allows higher speeds :)
Cvitamin 2 years ago
Wait... is this a diesel? It sounds like you're shifting at 2000rpm.
Soob4ME 2 years ago
You shift into 2nd WAY too much. Stay in first and tear out of there. Otherwise awesome snow action.
