hey! ill love to know how you did this, i have a similar project to do for my video editing class. i live in chicago and was planning on doing it here. Was this video done with still photos?
I went to Fairbanks in Aug 08. I stood outside the Westmark hotel and said "I must see this place in winter." This past winter I did just that. It was -30, gorgeous! (Also went to Anchorage and Kotzebue same trip.) Alaska in summer is beautiful, but Alaska in winter is spectacular. I will come back again.... in winter...I watch this video a lot, it calms my soul.
Very Short day in the winter, but very long days in the summer. The Northeast gets longer days in the summer then the southeast, but the Southeast gets longer days in the winter then the northeast.
Hellow. I think that this video is very valuable for many people except near Arctic and Antarctic. I live in Japan. I wonder the blue sky above and the red sky( the sky aglow with the setting sun) below. Now I'm reading a book "The science on light and color". So I understood Rayleigh scattering caused the blue sky and the red sky. In Japan I can see the blue sky in daytime and the red sky in the evening. But I cannot see the red sky in daytime.
ugh...up in Barrow the sun stays out for the entire summer and never sets then in november it finally does set and we dont see again til febuary....its crazy
We get this in the middle of June living in Australia, although we're not far South enough for anything as Goth as this - mid-winter sunrise is at 7.35am, sunset at 5.10 pm and maximum altitude is 29 degrees.
everytime i see such a spectacle i almost cry.. i went from italy to live in sweden because of this...but i feel i'm not north enough..maybe i'm crazy..i feel that north is calling me!!
@palefacealaskan. I did this video for fun! It was a personal project made with my own equipment. I have good notes on how to do this, if you're interested. Definitely not work-related. Thanks for the "georgeous" comment!
This is the simple truth which I have been trying to explain to people for many years but it's something that they just have a problem visualizing. Thank you for this video with it accurate depiction and its graceful visual and complimentary music.
Finally my friends can see what I've been talking about. --- Time to go back home for at least a winter visit.
Excellent. I saw the inverse of this in mid July 2009 when I rode my cycle up to Deadhorse and back - Atigun pass was spectacular with the sun never setting - thanks for a great video!
Thanks Eric, for a trip down memory lane! 25 years in Alaska, 18 of those in Fairbanks, were the best times of my life. I will always return to visit.....maybe to stay. Outstanding video!
nice video!

It looks like one long early morning! Spectacular! In Russia we have short days too, but it gets brighter than this.

Yes. This time-lapse video was made with still images, each shot about 10-seconds apart. Good luck on your own video.
