@xxmightyonexx I'm not disagreeing with you, and it DOES make the show funny, but 2 wrongs don't make a right. Remember, they INVITED the boy there, only 2 force him into a bad scenario with little in his favor? He's not a 'bad' kid, just occasionally thoughtless; that can be changed via compassion. An in this society, women get MORE in terms of accolades for beauty, decency & celebration. The kid may need an attitude adjustment early on, but did he really do anything 2 deserve being victimized?

@Shenruss I haven't watched enough of the show but there's no real indication that society does favor brains any more than ours. What we know is that there are more men than women in that school, and we saw at least one of those aliens was way stronger than a human. Maybe Doyle just isn't a physical marvel by their standards.

@GadGades Look again, my dude. In episode 1, Ms. McBrain states that Aimee's GRADES earned her the car. Even in a later episode, where Doyle amplifies his brain power via an illegal 'Brain Blaster' , Wendy says to Aimee: "Oh...so when someone starts getting good grades & becomes popular, you think something is wrong?" This implies the worth of intellect. And there are MANY girl's in that school; she's just the only human.

U'r right, tho: human body's there would probably be nothing special

@Shenruss yeah but that was part of her scholarship(apparently). The kid didn't get one but was selected anyway.not that I know the process but they school could have offered them since they went to the same place not knowing how they'd be treated. That aside, when they mentioned why she was popular, the fact that there were 3 times as many boys was mentioned randomly. Also we don't see anyone of the students make a big deal about being smarter or trying all that hard.

@GadGades Which poises the question: WHY was he selected? Sure, standards could be different on earth, but Doyle played football, basketball & pole-vault AT LEAST; such versatile athleticism wold put him in SOME sort of standing, even if he's not much compared to other alien races. The mere fact that they humiliated the boy due 2 his grades shows how highly they value academia. To put Doyle there when he had 'no academic worth' seems rather crude, i.e. his suffering is the source if the comedy

That's assuming they selected him as oppose to earth or that particular school sending their most popular(well liked) student. I don't doubt that school loves her intellect but does the culture? None of the students try to be particularly brainy... I mean most of them act and sound at or lower than Doyle. no doubt that appearances are decieving but the culture just doesn't seem that different to me.

@Shenruss No doubt that episode is correct, I'm just stating the what the show said when the introduced Aimee(which doesn't make sense either). That the boys outnumber the girls. no idea why they felt the need to say it but at the time. There might be more than one reason Aimee adapted better including her intelligence. The school was nicer, girls helped her out, Doyle had a bad attitude and rubbed people the wrong way. I'm just guessing though.

@GadGades Doyle may have been arrogant, but he was polite to Milo & TRIED being nice to others, Beef included. And even if the school 'sent him', Galaxy High could have rejected due to academic standards. I've never heard of a school sending a kid as an academic ambassador to another because he was 'well- liked'; he usually has to be gifted in SOME way. If this culture wasn't 'so different', then Doyle's being used as a 'beating horse' for no reason other than he's earthling, male & not 'bright'

@Shenruss Maybe special allowance was made or maybe their standards aren't that high. Doyle doesn't get treated that badly directly, outside of Beef, He's just having such a rough start and constant bad luck that it piles on. If the choice was given to one school to choose two students, then they might choose him just out of sheer popularity, in the same sense that class presidents can be B students. Doyle might have been just a C-B student.

@GadGades The only other option is this is some kind of 'probation'. You know; GH says we'll take both your best & brightest, for all their promise, and your absolute bottom of the barrel, because [1] we wanna be fair, and [2] being exposed to our advance techniques & outside of your 'normal' school system might tap into his potential, if not force him to be whipped into shape. Either way, Doyle is being SOCIALLY disregarded as well as academically maligned, while Aimee's put on a pedestal.

@Shenruss Well you don't have to all that special for an away program or to study abroad. This seems more like a cultural exchange. The earthlings don't know about this space stuff so I assumed the earth has only recently been opened up. So I think this was done for good relations mainly.

@GadGades That's true, but few schools, let alone countries, leave off compeltely PLANETS, would send just any random-person for a major honor like that.Let's assume Earth sent a best Brain & top Athlete to make an impression & show our scope, but were ignorant of the way 'Brains' are favored. Doyle showed he's capable of being a fine athlete for the school in his match with Beef, but the series still uses him as a whipping horse. To me, while funny, it just goes WAAAY too far at times

I was born in 91 so wasn;t around for the original aring but found this on a tape at a yard sale that was recorded from TV when I was around 6.

Professor Ice-enstein has to keep his classroom cold all the time or he'll melt. So all students have to bundle up to go to his classes. Whenever, Ice-enstein is outside of his classroom he has to have a big block of ice tied to his head.

possibly they had poor ratings or because the 80's were dominated by cartoons with toyline tie ins like G.I.Joe or Transformers. Because the sure thing for a show to succeed was the sell the toys back then.
