  • Best Way to practice this Kata keep you back to a wall and picture ur enemies surrounding you, no way back only left and right. AMAZING!

  • GrandMaster Ohtsuka Sensei thanks to his amazing videos ive yet to fail a grading. These Videos of the Original Founder practicing Kata are so useful to me that words cant describe it.

  • Old naifanchin actually used a "pidgeon-toed" crane stance with the knees and feet pointed inward in order to protect the groin.

  • I can't help but wonder if this man has any knowledge of the principle behind naifanchin. Leaving your center line and heart channel wide open as he's doing in this video will get u killed...

  • Naihanchi has many versions, taught by various instructors. It is an advanced kata, and if mastered is easily one of the strongest fighting systems.

One reason is, naihanchi does one thing that almost no other Kata truly does.

Can anyone tell what it is? Hint: watch his performance very carefully and pay attention to his posture.

  • i give up,tell me??

  • You never bend your spine. You stay erect, and strong. As soon as a person bends, or leans, they weaken their position by creating an inherent imbalance. Lean towards me, it is easy for me to pull you. Lean back and your balance is such I can push you away with a finger. Positioning yourself to your attacker in a way that minimizes any weakness is very important. Sinking into a strong horse stance makes you extremely stable and solid.

  • I know this comment was four months ago, but I must say, your spot on! The only weakness to a stance like the horse stance or any other Jigotai type stance, is the sacrifice of mobility. BUt I guess in mobile stances you sacrifice stability so it is necessary to know both.

  • This is not necessarily so. Much of true karate has been lost over the last 100 years. Part of that has been the understanding of correct stance and stances. Try to find pictures of Choki Motubo, and carefully note just how wide his horse is. A good horse stance is not so wide that you cannot react and move. Yes, you can sink down further and wider to make yourself even more stable,or to absorb, but you do so at the cost of mobility. However horse itself should not BEGIN with such loss.

  • There were various styles of karate, some, such as Shorin-ryu, had more narrow stances, and others have deeper stances. Generally a deeper stance is more a training method rather than a fighting method. I think what was really lost was the knowledge that just becuase you train with at times exagerated movement, doesnt mean you should fight like that.

  • I find that a dangerous missconception. Proper training is never exaggerated. Kata are not performance art, they are precise fighting systems, and should only be practiced correctly. Fighting with Kata is how true karate always was, and is. True karate is not sparring where you do a kata, then get in the ring and bounce around like a bruce lee video. That is not how true karate operates. Thats SPORT karate. Funakoshi, Motubo, Soken, Miyagi, would cringe at a statement like that.

  • I am no fan of sport karate, and I am definately a firm beleiver in kata, all i'm saying is that different styles of karate practice them differently, and that there are traditional styles that have lower and wider stances.

  • While yes you would learn different uses and degrees of stances, True karate was NEVER taught in any way but how it was to be used, period. You trained with your kata, over and over, till the moves became reflex, and you knew exactly how they could be used. PROPER STRUCTURE brings power that never fades with age.

I think you should check out the "zankwack" channel, here on youtube. I think you would pick up good moves, but also new knowledge and understanding.

  • Karate has strong roots in chinese martial arts and in chinese martial arts, for a training method the stances would be lowered and widened to build healthier, strongewr, and more flexible legs, in certain styles of karate they did the same things. There is more than one way to train with kata, with a kata you can condition your body, and increase flexibility, and gain fighting techniques/skills.But only if you use the kata in different waysotherwise you would only be getting one benefit of kata.

  • @farorin hey you mention Shorin-Ryu, i amlearning shiorin-ryu style karate, their are multiple stances, cat stance, deep stance, and regular stance, i dont have a clue how to spell them, accuratly at least, so i save you all the pleasure. the deep stance has your knee over your foot so your opponent cannot step over your foot, normally a strking blow is aplied during a block in this stance, to break their leg. kata teaches kumite. if you dont know the basics, how would you fight, muscle memory.

  • one of my favorite kata

but hes doing it very tense and different than he does it when no one is looking, haha.

like hes gonna do the real version for the whole world to see.

  • thank you very much... where did you get all that grat material ?
