I love the norwegian language. So much, that I am even studying the norwegian language and culture at university now and I wish to live in Norway someday. I have loved this song for a long time and finally able to understand it all!
@BennyBryle yep, they did, but it doesn't sound anything like this ;) if you try google on that title, there seem to have many bands covered that song. i guess it's an old norwegian folksong.
@widardd It's not an old folk song. It's Knut Hamsun's poem of the same name. The whole album is based on the poem collection of his, Det Vilde Kor. Knut Hamsun being a rather ingenious Norwegian author from late 1800's to the first half of the 1900's. Nobel Prize in literature and all that. This poem collection was published in 1904, and the lyrics haven't been modernised in any way.

@kanssasi Aldri sett "aldrig" før. Slo opp i ordlistene mine i skapet.
I like this video and the song so much from Lumsk. It is so calm and it is in black and white. Thanks for the upload, Lumsk is one of my favorite folk metal bands. I also admire her singing as well, so beautiful. ^_^
I know the translate meaning of the tittle of the song i just make a word trick with the tittle hoping not to forget this song in hundred years because i'm recording it to my daughter with the hope my daughter will record it to her sons if she will ever has some ^^
I really love this song, but Hamsun was wrong; Over fifty years after his death his name is still tainted, and it will most likely continue to be that way in the next fifty years to come. However, this shouldn't stop us from enjoying his litterary work.
there is a error or 2 so: I am this evening thinking, and conflicted, I think I'm like a capsized Boat, And all I moan and everything what I suffer Then I see me no Council. But if I will be so hard uneasy? In a hundred years everything is forgotten. Then I really rather stop the struggle. And go to sea with my tormented Soul. There the World vill find me sometimes later. So bitterly drowned to death. But if I will end all bad. In a Hundred years everything is forgotten
Hmm, I'm not correcting you because i'm not sure, but are you sure it doesn't mean 'counsel' and 'advice', because 'counsel' is a closer meaning to 'advice'
I agree it is a WONDERFUL song. I love Norway and any type of Scandinavian music. This singer (I forget his name) does remind me of a friend's father who happens to be a shrink. Take it easy!
this is not danish! its norwegian! this is how norwegian was when knut hamsund lived. The norwegian language was affected by danish, but still this is norwegian.
The language they speak on Iceland is old-norwegian. That was the language we got in norway before the dannish union. When the dannish came the language got influenced by the dannish language and that turned into the language we speak today. But the language Lumsk is singing on this song is the old form of the language we speak today. It's not that different from the language today ;)
jo, I got it now :) I misinterpreted what you said first :) but then again, this is old danish as much as old norwegian, just not as old as real old norse :P I think I said it right now, and in the end, we were both right, arguing for nothing :P anyway, the song rocks, and that should be all :)
well, for about 1500 years ago we spoke something called "Norrøn", and thats like a hybrid of icelandic and old-norwegian, and about 200 years ago norway was under danish rulage and wasd forced to write danish-norwegian.
Old Norse is not like a hybrid of modern Icelandic and Old Norwegian, as old Norwegian is an intrinsic part of the Old Norse language. Old Norwegian and Old Icelandic make up the Old West Norse dialect of Old Norse, so to call Old Norse a hybrid between itself and modern Icelandic is somewhat inaccurate. As for Danish rule, we were never forced to write in Danish, or later riksmaal, it was preferred.
I drift in the evening, thinking and struggling, I am like a Boat capsized and though I lament and suffer still I see no Solution. But why should I be so hard betrodden? In hundred Years everything is forgotten. So then I sooner put an end to the Struggle and go to Sea with my paining Soul. The world will find me there sometime later so bitterly drowned to death. But why should my end be so rotten? In hundred years everything is forgotten. Translation of the song.. Am i Right??
I drift in the evening, thinking and struggling, I am like a Boat capsized and though I lament and suffer still I see no Solution. But why should I be so hard betrodden? In hundred Years everything is forgotten. So then I sooner put an end to the Struggle and go to Sea with my paining Soul. The world will find me there sometime later so bitterly drowned to death. But why should my end be so rotten? In hundred year
Life still goes on. The AUTHOR of this poem is , by norwegian law, considered Weak in his mind. Jeg tror han ville likt denne versjonen,,
