We got out of the slump because Clinton made the wealthy pay their taxes like the rest of us -Obama is doing the same.

Trickle Down only works if the money can only go in 2 directions-up or down. In a global economy the money can go in any number of directions (but mostly out). Therefore, corps take the money & hire people in other countries to do the work much cheaper & then put all of their new earnings in offshore accounts, where they pay no taxes. Therefore it isnt trickle down -it's trickle out & it's always been that way. It's economics 101& every Repub has done this & caused great deficits!!

Because if you are the stimulis will affect positivly-However if you are not one of the above and you are like me, an upper middle class Male, the stimulis will affect you negativily by huge tax increase. I live in a very wealthy county where most are upper & middle classes. Some of the most wealthiest live here. We've been hit hard. The average income was $90,000 & we're losing our jobs -housing is a complete mess. The stimulus will help our county. It will help you as well if your family income is less than $250K. The increase in taxes isn't a new thing & the wealthy remain wealthy. It is the same taxation Clinton used but their free ride is over.

What's not fair is that the middle-class is taxed the same percentage rates as the wealthy while making much less income. The wealthy ships their jobs overseas while still taking the 2 tax cuts. Americans lose their jobs because of cheaper labor outside of the country. If you know economics, then you should know it doesn't work -it never has.

I was personally effected by the mess left by Bush and his administration. The non-profit agency I worked for closed. It had been open 30 years and I worked there the last 18 years.
Unemployment SUCKS! The pay (a whopping $365 per week) isn't enough to pay the bills.
I am optimistic that the stimulus package will be successful. However, it will take time. It took 8 years for the economy to get where it is today.
I am not sitting and waiting for my personal bailout. I took action.

He also promised that public will have 5 days to review any new bill before he signs it. FYI Reagan's legacy is as sad as Bush'. Ford & Carter did a better job cutting government. Reagan tripled the Gross Federal Debt from $900B to $2.7 trillion. Ford and Carter in their combined terms could only double it. It took 31 years to accomplish the first postwar debt tripling, yet Reagan did it in just 8. You are talking about something you have zero clue about which isn't a good excuse to support the corrupt GOP.

The stimulus Bill was posted on the congressional web site - few other places. The Reps are always saying "no" to everything without giving reasons or solutions. As usual they have nothing to add important - no more wasteful spending. Controlling odor & feces is an environmental issue. We have probs here in VA w/chicken farms because using their feces as fertilizer has contaminated our water supply in the Shenandoah & Potomic. I refuse to drink the water here when male fish have eggs!

No -the economy was a mess. In the first 2 yrs of his presidency we experienced the worse recession since the Great Depression. Unemployment was @ 10.8 percent. Rather than take responsibility, Reagan attempted to blame the '82 recession on Carter. Also he started the tax cuts for the wealthy which only increased the debt - it's proven not to work. We got out of the slump because Clinton made the wealthy pay their taxes like the rest of us -Obama is doing the same.

In '00 Bush & a Repub-led Congress reduced income taxes, w/the majority of the tax cuts going to America's wealthiest individuals. Only then did the economy achieve a combination of rapid growth, low unemployment & quiescent inflation. Reagan is without doubt the most overrated man in US history. I'm assuming you're speaking about the CRA -but loans that fulfilled the anti-redlining CRA performed better than the average mortgage. I remember that out of $700B only $3B was CRA. Reagan had destructive economic policies.The so-called Reagan boom was a middling episode of economic growth. Poverty was very high. Large tax cuts targeted @ the rich, a military buildup, & slashing social spending. The tax cuts busted the federal budget which was the largest peacetime deficit in history. Reps continue to turn their back on social spending for the poor in favor of ineffectual tax giveaways for the rich, at same time that it finds unlimited monies for military adventures.

Then there's the S&L scandal (cost Americans billions in bailout), 225 members of Reagan Admin left office due to scandals resulting in firings, indictments & convictions, EPA, Iran Contra Arms Scandal, illegally used Depart of Agriculture Funds intended solely for international disaster relief to help Hussein build a multi-billion dollar military war machine in Iraq during the 1980's Iran-Iraq War, helped fund & build up Al Qaeda during the Mujahideen battle w/the Soviet invasion of Afghan etc

Carter & Ford put together didn't make the mess Reagan did -another fact. I remember watching the Iran-contra fiasco. Oliver North just lives down the road from me. Reagan & Bush should have been put in prison. Now it's Bush II & Cheney that need to be in prison. Geesh -Repubs are the party of irresponsibility & corruption.

have you heard of the trickle down theory?-It's the basis of capitalism where if the wealthy get wealthier, the middle and even lower calsses of society are effected in a good manner. Europe did the opposite and punished success which is why they are tanking VERY quickly.
And as I remember, Carter created that economic mess that Regan fixed.
Then clinton came along and slowly lead poisoned the economy so that Bush would unintentionally wreck our economy. Same position Barack is in now.

Trickle Down only works if the money can only go in 2 directions-up or down. In a global economy the money can go in any number of directions (but mostly out). Therefore, corps take the money & hire people in other countries to do the work much cheaper & then put all of their new earnings in offshore accounts, where they pay no taxes. Therefore it isnt trickle down -it's trickle out & it's always been that way. It's economics 101& every Repub has done this & caused great deficits!!

You should have been worrying about American 8 yrs ago when Bush -the liar, the cheat the corrupt oil whore was put in office but by the Supreme Court. I read the Washington Post but caught them in a lie. They blamed Russia for attacking Georgia while in fact in was Georgia who fired on & killed Russian peacekeepers. I really like "Information clearing house" which can be found on the Internet. They reported what happened in Georgia - they're journalists are all over the world & they're bi-partisan. Repubs have earned the bad reputation. Reporting the news isn't always discontentment but gospel truth. I use to like Dobbs but he's gone insane

Carter inherited a mess from the Nixon/Agnew/Ford years that was beyond hope. Any comment about his try at the presidency that is not tempered with an understanding that no one could succeed after these criminals, is invalid. US was suffering from inflation @ 7% & a beginning recession when Carter took office in Jan 77. Ford had also angered conservatives w/his withdrawal from Vietnam in 75. Carter was a good man who tried to clean up a mess he inherited. He's also the one responsible for creating peace between Egypt & Israel which has proved the most durable. So don't judge him so harshly, especially when you give Reagan a free ride on his corruption, unemployment #s, & a huge deficit. We blame who is responsible. Okay, the fact you think Carter was a good president automatically wins me this debate. And see what I mean? All you do is blame. The unemployment rate went to 16% when Carter was in office. Then as soon as Reagan came in, it dropped down to 4.4% in about eighteen months. So don't even blame Nixon.
So how do you explain that? There's no 'inheriting' or any of that stupid crap. Once a President is in office, it is HIS responisibility, and HE is responisible for putting the economy on its feet

I reminded you that Carter inherited the economic mess created by the Vietnam war & to this day, most Americans blame Carter for what was caused largely by policies under Johnson & Nixon as well as OPEC. Also his foreign relations w/other countries. I try to keep it real. Reagan's 1st 4 yrs successful due to Carter policies. Last 4 yrs Bush I inherited a big economic mess but it was hidden better than the one Obama inherited. Carter had Rep congress who were incompentent -Obama has backing.

Carter didn't inherit any mess, he just screwed things up. And no, Reagan's entirerly changed this country (in a positive way) and it didn't do anything with Carter. Reagan re-did everything on HIS OWN! And guess what he didn't do?
He didn't blame or point fingers, he just got the job done.
And it seems no matter how good a Conservative/Republican president is or how shitty a Liberal/Democrat president is, you'll blame the Conservative president.
