What you should do is is mark and area like mabey 20 by 20 and dig it down as far as you can go and make it a square into a square then lay down a frame and build basically a box and then but a roof and cover it back up with dirt. Idk why pole dont do that you really need to brace it so it doesent collapse.

For all the tunnel builders on you tube I'll say this. I love your ingenuity and drive but you are really in great danger of killing yourself in a horrible way. It's very common on construction sites that the sides of trenches give way and kill workers. The first time you exhale the dirt displaces the space your lungs just took up and even if air is available you can't draw it in. 1 square foot of dirt weighs over 120 pounds. Search trench collapse and see if I'm lying.

go look at how tortouises create bunkers, the rim around the hole will keep a lot of water out. I actually have to leave mine open because i dig in hard clay that needs water sometimes to dig! I'm considering using a dredge instead and filling it with water constantly while still being able to dig downward with the dredge nozzle. Dredges are commonly used in gold prospecting. I've been scanning for gold in my tunnel, no luck yet =) sub my channel! I'll post a vid soon
