That is a mistake many Christians and atheist alike make. the basic premise is the story of the beginning on the world. the history of men and specifically the the descendants of Abraham and what they did. there is wisdom and morality but it really addresses the decedents of Abraham. I already disbelieve the bible. Using it as a reference isn't going to convinve me. The moment you make sentient life, you lose rights to control it. For example, Satan forbid, you have a kid. Kid grows up. Do you own that adult? Do you have the right to chose who they should be with, what they should eat, etc.. And I view slavery etc, as wrong, because it IS hurting others, emotionaly and phisicaly. So therefore, I find it hypocritical for a god who advocates these to give me moral lessons.

Yes, Monty could have other reasons for not debating me, but it seems likely to me that fear is the number one reason. I can't really blame him, as he would likely be embarrassed in such a debate. He may assume his knowledge of scripture is superior to mine; however, he just might be wrong about this.

Is that really your answer to my question? Muslims can claim that Allah makes them accept the Qur'an as self evidently true. If this is your best answer, then you have failed. And 2nd, if God exists, and there is no proof he does not, wouldn't an omnipotent Being be able to reveal OR conceal Himself from anyone He chose to? Could He not cause one to believe the Bible? Now are you going to use circular reasoning and assume God does NOT exist in your answer? You seem awfully certain that He doesn't. You seem certain of MANY things.

Given your epistomological view, you cannot tell a true propostion from a false one. How can you be certain of anything? You seem rather certain that a Christian can't know he is truly one of the elect. At least this is what you tell me. You seem certain the Bible has contradictions as well. For you, certainty is a requirement for knowledge and truth. So, if you cannot be certain of the proposition, then you are deducing from probability, which must really suck for you :-)

Atheism does not have to justify anything. All it is is a lack of belief in the claims of religion. It does not have to justify knowledge just as the theory of evolution would not have to justify gravity. You see, they deal with entirely separate subject matter.

@ WarrantedFaith That is exactly right! Another way of saying that atheistic materialism cannot justify knowledge would be to say cannot account for it or make it possible. After all knowledge is believing the truth. If thoughts are just brain activity how would one possibly distinguish between true thoughts and false ones? Knowledge would be impossible. God bless you.

Not all atheists are strict materialists. Some elephants are gray, but not all gray things are elephants. You could say all of this about a materialistic point of view, but again I say it has nothing, necessarily, to do with atheism itself.

It is not that complicated.
If there is reproduction, variance and selection then there will be evolution. It is a fact.
Consciousness and knowledge evolved because it is an incredible tool for survival.
