  • I have a sick feeling in my stomach. My eyes are heavy. This story is the single most terrible thing i have ever known to happen to a child. Disgusting.

May you rest in peace lil soldier. In heaven you are free <3

  • OH,MAMMIE...May you find your son in Heaven as should be...and may the lightnings of this meeting bless our lives here on Earth forever...

She found him...i felt, and wrote here...and my heart is like the wind

    I love you,mom and son

    after 47 years,8 months and 25 days(more or less)you are together again,Thank You for that...thank you...Thank You

  • Man, all those horrible things they did to him just for doing one little thing:

Whistling at a white girl, and what happens?

They not only murder him but doggone it they tear him apart!

Man his mom sure did want the whole world to know about what

happened to her son. Only 14? Dang those cruel men -_-

  • sad story

  • This story is so sad and powerful, even though Emmett Till's murder occurred 55 years ago. Emmett Till would have been 69 years old now if he were still living. The two alleged killers are now dead (and in HELL, I hope!) and Carolyn Bryant is living in seclusion in Mississippi. I hope Ms. Bryant 'sees the light' and shows regret and remorse for her part in the horrible murder and mutilation of a 14-year-old boy before she passes on or else she may also wind up in HELL!

  • hope that lady die something real bad

  • we just learned about this in school and it broke my heart </3 people can be so evil and cruel.

  • I am going to be honest, I had just watching the autobiography of Malcolm X then clicking on related videos where I came across a story if Emmett Till which I knew nothing of until I heard this song, & honestly as a none American, the US History has made me even more not wanting to ever travel to some parts of its states such as Mississippi, Alabama, Texas etc, I've heard that racism still exist in those prts of the US & as a non american black female it disgust me & tremendously disappointed.

  • This isnt bob.

  • yeah. its a cover. that means its a remake by someone else.

  • it isnt its someone else

it has to be does bob sound like that

  • This wakes up the hostility in Me Damm racists

  • such a terrible story.

  • The filmmaker's heart is in the right place, but some of the images in this film have no relation to the story. Why a picture of a prisoner at Abu Ghraib to illustrate a line about Emmett Till's torture? Why the chalk outline on a sidewalk when Emmett Till's body was pulled from the river? And why the string around the finger picture that looks like a Hallmark card? The Emmett Till story is very powerful; these images detract.

  • Of course you're right with that. I don't spend much time with the videos and I couldn't find more pictures which are related to his story.

So I put some pictures related to violence in general to the video.

The string around the finger is just a funny picture which belongs to the line "This song is just a reminder".

Of course a professional director can do this much better.

  • @ediedoty who cares about the video its about how it makes u feel

  • Stories like this are all too common in our history. The worst thing about it today is that our kids are being taught that these things are history, the truth is that while the actions are not as prevalant the feelings are still there. We must address it head on and be not afraid to come face to face with the beast in order to kill it once and for all. Please, educate your children on the feelings that lead to this kind of hate, then we can put a dent in our racist society.

  • Thanks for NOT writing another stupid comment ;-)

  • R.I.P EMMETT TILL DEATH TO KKK

  • forgive them Lord, for they know not what they've done.

  • I remember this from a Malcolm X speech. "As long as they have been doing it, they know what they are doing". It's not hate when you protect yourself from evil. But they always make the victim look like the criminal and the criminal the victim. Don't get sucked into ignorance.

  • FORGIVE THEM Lord, for they know not what they've done.

  • 3 stars

  • 3 stars for me? 3 stars for Emmett? 3 stars for the killers? Or 3 stars for your life?

  • correct and the jurry was white

  • aparently, the two ppl that killed emmett went to court and were found not guilty. well the law said that once you were found not guilty for something you did you could never go to court again for it, well the two ppl sold the story after to magazines saying that they killed him and since they couldnt go back to court, the could do it freely.

  • I look at Emmett's pitifully mutilated body, and I search the faces of the two guilty brothers. I'm not sure what I was looking for. Repentence? Don't think so because they showed that they weren't capable of that, but I looked at those men's faces and I could come up with only one word; WHY!?

  • That's the worst thing in that. They don't even know what they are doing. They just did what other people told them to do.

  • And that's why I hold the people who taught those men to hate even more responsible than them. They were merely doing what they'd been taught all their lives. But I still hold them responsible for what they did. And though they may have gotten away with it on this side of life, I'm afraid of what they now have to face before the Judge of the whole universe. And it's here that no prisoners will be taken and no clever lawyers will be able to appeal.

  • sad sick pricks they will pay for it

  • great choice my friend

  • fucking redneaks and kkk's

  • Oh, and nice job on the vid

  • man... fuck bryant and milam bitches... i mean come on.. beating a little boy up for what whistling at a women maybe?... pretty low... really low

  • To Mike52Larry and Bob2000system, how can you post something so ignorant and racist? it really makes one sad to be on this planet knowing there are people like you on earth who are heartless, cruel, and cold. shame on you..how do you sleep at night? it's time to think about how you would feel if you were emmett till, killed for something YOU probably would've done as a FOURTEEN YEAR OLD BOY? For Shame racist pigs

  • Sorry, I didn't see that. I removed the stupid comments.

  • im with ya budella every time i see his body i cry so hard it makes my blodd chill till im frozen.

  • Very good!

  • Bob Dylan is an amazing singer

  • It's not a song; it's a lesson. Thanks JB.

  • love this relatively obscure dylan song.man you play it well.

  • Thank you for posting.

  • this is so sad

  • Great cover of this song Johnny. What a sad moment in American history

    Rocket

  • Johnny,

    Great cover.

You are surley a hard core Dylan fan.

    I am.

I have the version where a 20 year old Bob sang the tune in a radio station in NYC.

    Cheers!

  • Tanks eleot. I got my version from the internet some years ago. Has to be very old, too. Maybe it's the original outtake from the Freewheelin album.

His old live recordings in radio stations and TV shows are great, yes. Some of them you may find here.

  • This is such a hard song to find. I like the way you performed it. I read that Bob Dylan was around the same age as Emmett Till, and so as a young boy the death affected him profoundly. The really sad part is that people aren't aware of this story and how it played a key part in the civil rights movement. Thanks so much for posting. Well done.

  • Thank you. I wonder that the song never made it to an official record. It's one his best songs for me, but not many people know the song today. His way of telling a story and to sing the story is great.

  • Always hurts my heart

  • Thank you for your comment.

Yes, it's a sad song and Dylan does it in his own special way. For me the song is still actual, because the senceless killing will never stop. Therefore we alway need those song, anytime.

  • thank you for this song

  • yarr, that poor young boy from chicago town we shoul remember well ...

  • Good singing, excellent sound, nice video with interesting pictures - pretty good work on this one, Johnny!

    Kris

  • Thank you Kris. This is a song from the outtakes of the "Freewheelin'" album. I like the song very much because Dylan can tell the story of Emmett so well with his lyrics. Just look for the lyrics, it's very interesting.

    Johnny
