Dam, I remember this commercial. I was hoping it had the one voice that was all over 1980's WPIX. I remember WPIX and WWOR being staples of my childhood but I left the Tri-State are in 97 and then all hell broke lose with those two stations.
Hah, i remember seening the first clips from the movie though and- having grown up with reprint comix from the 60's + 70's, and ESPECIALLY having watched the tv series all my life (taking it totally seriously, of course), i was like "Huh? Wtf? Batman's blue, not black. Everyone knows that. Why is he all grim and stuff? Batman and Robin are fun guys! And where the Hell IS Robin?!."
Of course after the movie came out, that was the only Batman i wanted
Remember when FX first started out, they had Batman, 6 million Dollar man, and superman. They had live shows from the Apartment, and it was great Television. Now they just don't do much for me and don't watch them at all. BRING BATMAN ON DVD!!!
@mavivirgie I keep seeing comments about Batman not being on DVD, but I think it is according to the google search I just made. Just go to tvdvdtown dotcom, and you should see them listed
The movie that came after the first season is available on DVD, because Warner hold the rights, but a different studio (Paramount, I think) owns the rights to the actual show.
More of that boring, impenetrable legal shit that keeps us from good shows! Sort yr shit out WBs!
this was around the time that the Burton movie had been out for a few months.... and ToyBiz had those Super Powers knock offs on store shelves.....and there was also the Batman cereal in supermarkets.....
When wpix took batman off...I was upset (my dad is a huge batman fan) and he told me 'they would put it on again" lol What do they have on now? A lot of comedy thats speaks about sex (give me the 80s any day)
@kawaiiangelbabe In the late 80's they had it on channel 5 (WNEW 5) and when I was at my night school courses I always had it turned on in the college breakroom.
At that time, I had really long hair and a cycle jacket, blue jeans and all that, and all the "normal" people tried their best to avoid me because they thought I was too weird or too immature for liking Batman.
Finding friends there was quite a task, but I found a few, mostly girls who thought my hair was cool, lol
Oh yeah, there were a few girls who liked my metal look, because there were a lot of heavy metal chicks in denim and leather and I hooked up with a few here and there.
I used to have this really cool earring of a cros with a skull in the middle that they all asked me where I got it from. As well, band names like Testament, Slayer, Nuclea Assault and the like were thrown around the hallways religiously.
If I recall correctly, WPIX didnt air Batman for long before pulling it off the air. Sigh. I grew up in the 1970s watching syndicated reruns of classic tv shows, which they would air for YEARS on the local channels. But by the mid-80s, little by little they were removed from the free airwaves. A few times they would bring some classic tv shows back on the air, but would yank them off the air within months, even weeks. And after making such a big deal with their promos about airing them again.
I remeber THIS one well, mostly because I was in community college at the time and every 5 PM I had Batman on in the lounge (if noone was watching anything else.)
And I got picked on by some of the more "normal" students, who also had a problem with my cycle jacket and my sleeveless denim with the Slayer logo

WPIX was the station I first watched Batman on as a child. I wasn't born during the original telecast.

Same here, WPIX is the first channel I watched it on, but it was in the very early 70's, around 1970 or '71 when I was around 6 or 7.
I also remember when Land Of The Giants was still an original run show, shortly before it was cancelled.
And as always, WPIX had Chiller Theatre, and WNEW 5 had Creature Features. Truly great days indeed.

they re-aired the batman tv show here in nyc in 1989 with this promo, because they were capitalizing on the batman (michael keaton) movie release.
