I should work on my hair. :) Marty have em and slash have em and both are great composers. Surely there are better guitar technicians but the importanst thing for music is the feeling and to put your soul in your music for a tornado of souls^^ And for me are these players the real guitar heroes like dave too and not the 260 bpm but boring shreders.

Lol. Look at how mad you get over me stating the obvious. Metallica are barely thrash anymore. Kirk did some great things in early Metallica, he's ABUSED the pentatonic scale and wah pedal for YEARS.

He's not very fast by today's metal guitar standards. Marty created his own eastern influenced style and still makes releases that infuse metal with other genres (like J-Pop). Marty's a musician and imo that's more respectable than being strictly an (insert genre) guitarist

And on top of that Marty's technical ability has ALWAYS far exceeded Kirk's. Marty's always been a creator that births many different sounding pieces of music and brings so many different influences (along with an open mind) to the table. Kirk's playing has been of the same vein since he started in Metallica.

I'm not denying Kirk isn't a good guitarist. He is. Marty is just in a totally different class than Kirk is.

@cromaticas i remember reading in an interview with satriani, that he only taught kirk hammett guitar techniques for like a day or a week, this was right when he joined metallica. look at the first three albums, and listen to kirk's solos. they are pretty creative and sound unique. every album after that has been wah-wah and pentatonic scales. i respect dave more for not being repetitive and the fact that he's self-taught.
