  • Just seen this at the Thaxted Patronal Procession under a midsummer night sky in front of the church - absolutely haunting and beautiful despite the aircraft noise. We can't afford to lose wonderful traditions like this.

  • I love this. Watch it every year. Just been this year and watched it from the Guildhall. Amazing. The most beautiful haunting music. <3 I wish this type of music and dancing would appeal to more young people. we spend so much time accomidating other cultures and customs (not saying it's bad) that we begin to forget our own

  • What a lovely version. Much prefer this to the Scottish polkas and jigs played by the original lot. Is this the tune Robert Buckley collected from the original dance in the 1800's?

  • watch it every year in thaxted, luv morris weekend.were english and not scared by political correctness to show it!

  • Eerie with all that airplane noise above

  • I'm in the US, and I decided to check out videos on Thaxted, because some of my ancestors are from there. I think the morris dancing is cool, but I really wish the planes would fly elsewhere!

  • I'm sure Stansted Airport wasn't this busy when I saw this about 15 years ago, or I might have just been mesmerised by the spectacle!

  • where is this???

    abbots bromley is the best!!

  • By the fact that the title has "at Thaxted" I think you can work it out.

  • What's this bickering? Thaxted is Thaxted, Abbots Bromley is Abbots Bromley. They are both unique so take them for what they are and just enjoy.

  • I'm a new "tuber" but found this quite lovely.

  • We first saw this in the 1950's and I believe Thaxted Morris Men had received special permission from Abbots Bromley to do the dance, and in fact had their own antlers. Quite nostalgic now.

  • Hahahaha - i was in that crowd somewhere!!!

  • Love the planes flying over!

  • I love it.........who was playing the fiddle?Beautiful.

  • mystical - bah. As the Abbots Bromley people here have said, go and see the real thing. This is faked-up, pretendy nonsense. Though not as funny as the various American versions.

  • What is the real thing? I should like to see it.

  • That's funny, because the original version is just goofy as all hell.

  • You have to be there to catch the mystical atmosphere. Must be about 14 yrs since I saw it there but this is a good reminder. Shame about the aircraft!!!

    Thanks

  • How can you say this is the Abbots Bromley horn dancers. What a cheek. The dance is always held on the first monday after the first sunday after the 4th of september so this year, come along and see us on the 10th of september, and see the real horn dance.

  • I didn't say it was the Abbots Bromley Horn Dancers.

I'm afraid sharing it here is a by-product of wanting to put it on our blog

    Sorry for the confusion.

It is pretty clear that it's at Thaxted.

  • I've watched this dance several times and it always makes the hair on my neck stand on end. In this vid I miss the firm call "All-together", perhaps the caller has changed, after all I first saw in the 50's.

  • shame it was not the original Abbots Bromley Horn Dancers you can catch the real ones september the 10th 2007 in Abbots Bromley from 7.30 am at the church

  • Haunting, ive been watching this dance since i was a wee lad, and it sends chills down my spine every time i watch this performed here. My grandad is the guy with bow and arrow as well! thanks for posting
