  • @ConcreteRiver No one is talking about GORGING oneself. I ate butter, cheese, bacon, etc. to satiation and lost shitload of weight! It's not an absurdity. It is reality.

  • @blokesome you lose weight on an atkins style diet because you are causing yourself to be sick and if you continue on this type of eating, you will suffer the consequences, that is a fact, and you know it. weight loss does not equate to health. this type of eating is very dangerous and obviously NOT condusive to overall human health. Please google Jody Gorran, a man in relatively good shape who took your advice to eat butter and cheese and meat and it nearly killed him. you disgust me

  • @ConcreteRiver My health has never been better. I have not gotten sick in over a year. My skin is spectacular. I no longer have knee and other joint pain. I sleep soundly at night, and I no longer suffer from mild depression. I'm sorry that your deluded, narrow mind prevents you from searching for the truth and that you are satisfied with the false information that you have been spoon-fed your entire life. Good day!

  • @flootisboy65 Atkins(the dead guy) widow Veronica Atkins, has stated in numerous interviews that her husband had advanced athereosclerosis, clogged arteries. He suffered a myocardial infarction(heart attack) shortly before he died.He died as a fat, unhealthy, albeit very rich man. Millions who tried his ANA also developed severe CV problems and woke up to the fact that gorging on cholesterol and fat is not conduisive to human health. Nor is it natural.

  • @flootisboy65 Atkins himself stated, when responding to the lack of peer reviewed study that wasn't funded by Atkins Corp itself, as to the safety and health benefits to his diet, stated that the scientists and medical establishments were already biased against his "work and theories", so there was no need to call for these studies. A commonality shown by all followers of low carb high fat is "you ignore the science. it is there for you to see". Well lets see it. Authentic and peer documented!

  • So let me get this straight. Carbs will kill you?! LOL. That is the dumbest thing I've heard. My diet is 80% carbs 10% fat 10% protein and I'm at optimal energy levels and my weight is down to what I weighed in high school.

    Every single cell in the human body run on glycogen and entering ketosis is not healthy because the body is starved so it relies on other sources for energy.

    If a high animal fat diet is healthy, do some blood work and let's compare.

  • I'm doing fine with bacon and eggs, cream in my coffee, steak, etc. Atkins was right. So was Gary Taubes (google his article "What if all has been a big fat lie". Diabetics should also check out Dr. Richard Bernstein's "The Diabetes Solution." Portion control takes care of it self. The most important thing is to STOP EATING CARBS.

    Your body does it because it feels that it is in constant starvation. You dont give it its primary source of energy, so its forced to burn other things.

    You americans just dont want to understand that you can eat everything, just make sure you to take in less calories than you burn and youll be thin.

  • @YsahsCreativeHobbies In moderation fruits and veggies are healthy, but look at what humans have been eating for 300,000 years. Anthropologists will tell you that physiologically we are nearly identical to pre-agricultural man. Hundreds of thousands of years of natural selection has made us well designed meat eating bio-chemical machines. Lots of meat, berries and nuts in moderation, and occassional fruits and high calcium veggies is the human diet.

    Iv'e read his book a few times and in THIS day and age in THIS Country it's definitely the "processed foods" that have been our down fall including sugar in the form of confection as well as bad carbs (white foods) God bless Dr Atkins R.I.P

  • Yeah it´s processed food and high sugar food that is bad not healthy carbs. I don´t want to eat unhealthy fats and I don´t have acne but I get acne from nuts. I have eaten high carb my whole life and never been fat or gotten overweight from that. I can eat a lot of carbs without gaining fat.

    Simplified ... excess Insulin is overall the bad guy.

    LDL (the bad cholesterol) receptors are INCREASED in fat cells (adipocytes) by .... you guessed it ... insulin!! Not good ... it simply makes u STORE MORE FAT!

    Also, G3P (Glyceraldehyde-3-Phosphate) becomes the glycerol backbone of triglycerides (fat!). and G3P is produced in CARBOHYDRATE metabolism!!! NOT fat metabolism!

  • @tarakym Low on animal products? Humans have been eating animal products for 300,000 years. That's what our bodies are eveolutionarily adapted to eat. Unless you're one of those adam and eve religious nutjobs who don't believe in natural selection driven evolution then I don't see how you can condemn animal products. Our ancestors existed in a near constant state of ketosis.

  • Low-carbers get their energy from their high-fat diet. Low-carbers often report they have more energy then they ever did before on a high-carb diet. High-carb diets make you feel tired and sleepy.

    And the more calories than you burn thing is a myth also. That's not true. Why do fat people not even eat a lot and still can't lose weight. Cause it's the carbohydrates.

  • I don't really believe in the low carb actually. where do those people get their energy from? fat isn't exactly the preffered source of energy right? If I were to go on that diet I would probably become all sleepy and shit.

  • I eat a high-fat/relatively low carb diet (I don't go to Atkins extremes, I eat about 50g of carbs a day; all from fruit and vegetables) and I never have energy problems. I lift heavy weights too.

  • you're right, fat and protein are about twice as difficult for your body to use as energy.

    But being on a low to no-carb diet means your body has to use these. The first week of a low carb diet is hell, as your body screams for carbs, but after that, with soome light excercise to avoid protein usage, your body begins to use fat as its primary fuel source, leading to rapid weight loss, I've been on a low carb diet for 1 month and lost 34 pounds.

I'm actually thinking about going on a low carb diet but 34 pounds in one month sounds a bit much :O. when I work for my definition where I try to drop body fat % I lose about 1-2 pounds per week if even that. Another thing I don't understand is why they call it low carb when you usually eat a lot of vegetables on a low carb diet. vegetables have carbs. can anyone explain this please?

    Not all veg have carbs. Things like broccoli, beans, cauliflower, cabbage and the like have very little carbs but are very rich in vitamins and minerals.

  • Animal fats should still be your main source of calories. That's what I'm getting at. The best diet is one where the majority of calories come from fatty meat. You still need calories, and animal fats are the best source of them.

  • Because, where else are you gonna get your calories from? Carbs? No way! You also want to avoid polyunsaturated oils at all cost. Your two remaining choices are animal fats and nuts. Animal fats are cheaper, already in the meat you're eating, and actually help lower your bad cholesterol, raise your good cholesterol, and lower your triglyceride levels.

    A better question would be, why would you choose other calories over animal fats?

  • I though your calories should consist of lean protein mostly. personally I eat 40 % protein, 30%fats and 30 % carbs. I also try to eat all fats except trans fats, so I don't cut away the fat from my steak and stuff. I tried the atkins diet and became seriously tired. And that's cause my body didn't have any glycogen

  • I agree with you completely. Animal fat is the most natural form of fat out there... and we need fat! It's healthy. I gained weight on low- fat for years.... Now I eat plenty of fat and I have lost 40 pounds.

I can equally as easily appeal to any number of associations that strongly disagree with the AHA and ADA, so that point is invalid. Go to the evidence, and when you do that your opinion becomes much weaker. Billions of dollars invested into testing low fat diets for 50 years now have not yielded the proof that has been looked for. BTW, all of those studies were done b/c the man who originally proposed the...

  • "Low Fat is best" diet (Keyes) was able to chair the original proposals by the AHA. So while the controversy raged around him he was able to get the extremely influential AHA to say low fat is best which silenced the discussion in the popular press but did nothing to stop science from continuously proving it to questionable at best and clearly false in many instances. Go to the evidence, not to the organizations pushing one side of the Theory. Thats like saying "Global Warming is clearly...

  • Of course not. Ya know why? Because all those billions have been spent trying to prove that low fat is the healthiest way to go. When a multi million dollar study doesn't prove that they think the study wasn't good enough so institutions like NIH will simply fund another multi million "Please prove low fat diets best" study, which will fail b/c those diets are NOT best. We need to start studying other diets to determine which is actually healthiest.
