  • What song is this?

  • @chinchou9 D's Diner it sais it in the discription!

  • what song is this?

  • a dj helps him make sounds for him to I've seen it all

  • There is no doubt that Entwistle is a good bass player but is very limited by the Who's music. I guess the question would be, can Entwistle play using the various styles and techniques that Claypool can? I doubt it...but I do know for a fact that Les can play, as one person so eloquently put on here "Entwistle's songs with his dick". There are rock musicians and there are innovators.

  • i cant believe what i just saw, it was sooo fucking amazing i dont think it even happened

  • thats disgusting

  • @freznar1 i agree. some types of bass can actually be pretty beast, but stuff like this is unlistenable

  • @jakoson7 i meant it as a good thing i love that guy

  • MORE, MORE, MORE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • not impressed

  • going to see him in june.. cant wait!

  • Les is a god, I'm convinced. I went to his concert and I tried to record him playing but after the first note he struck my phone tweaked out (new phone, pristine working condition) and wouldn't let me take video or pictures. But after the concert it was fine. Do not doubt his power

  • haha thats hillarious.

  • Comment removed

  • Us mortals are not worthy. = )

  • @Paintplayer1 dude are you fucking serious?

  • WHO WANTS TO GO TO D'S DINER???

  • I DO!

  • WHO WANTS TO GO DOWN TO D'S??

  • MEEEEEEEEEEE!!!

  • Jesus christ, Les Claypool never fails to amaze me but for some reason I don't feel influenced by him, I think it's because he's too damn good maybe or he doesn't give off something that makes me attracted to him :S still he's far above the level of bass god.

  • IT IS UNGODLY

  • the only thing what is the same about entwisle and claypool is that they're both amezing

  • what song is this???

    : )

  • ds diner

  • D's Diner

  • I think that was better than this recording made it sound. Clearly the cell phone or whatever didn't have much low-range sensitivity.

  • I'm not even a big Primus/Les fan but there is no doubt.. dude is the most dexterous pair of hands on the planet... jesus christ he could play John Entwistle's parts with his fucking dick!

    cheers!

  • Maybe not, have you seen his 5:15 solos, they are pretty good, but no doubt most of John's stuff Claypool could accomplish with his eyes closed.

  • John Entwistle was voted by other professional bass players as the, "BASSIST OF THE MILLENIUM", ENOUGH SAID.

  • entwistle was good. but you cant compare him to claypool, two completely different styles

  • Guitar Magazine and Bass Player Magazine made no distinction of styles. Everyone was eligible to be nominated and voted on by other musicians. Entwistle was crowned, Bassist Of The Millenium. Sorry the votes were cast and all artists were compared, cheers.

  • it doesnt really matter what a magazine says man.

  • Your correct it doesnt matter what a magazine says but it does matter what the contents of the magazine say and that is the professional musicians voted John Entwistle BASSIST OF THE MILLENIUM. Those are other professional musicians that voted not the magazine, cheers.

  • why the fuck do you keep on saying cheers man.

    fucken mook

  • what is fucken mook? cheers

  • Yea, but Saying he's "bassist of the millenium" is just saying he's the largest bass player of the millenium. It takes into account a lot of stuff, like fame and that Entwistle was inspirational for a long time. Unfortunately, Les wasn't very famous or a mainstream figure for very long, so obviously he wont win it, even though in many peoples opinions he is a better bassist

If it's "best bassist" your talking, no doubt Les Claypool is up on top... Cheers

(My bad for the really long comment)

  • Point well taken, thanks and cheers

  • this jam is so smooth i lost ma pants

  • That's quick! He's on a six string to the guy below me.

  • GOD of the four strings

  • he so fast he cause used he ALL of his friggin fingers

  • Primus Sucks! If your a true fan you would say so to! (ITS THERE SLOGAN DIPSHITS!)

  • Y'know what's wierd, I go on KMFDM vids and say that and people get it! Why don't people get it on Primus vids?

  • You probably learned that by looking them up on wikipedia or something...

  • i can't get it, your a primus fan, but you say it sucks, how the hell it can be? lol

  • It's their slogan. They shout it out.

  • PRiMus suCKs Is TheIr SlogAN Blablabla...please from now on fans of primus shut the fuck up cause we all know it was their slogan and its not anymore and everytime i see the same argument on almost every single vid now shut up......... primus fukin ROCKS

  • I think its dumb that I accidently hit thum,bs down, adn cant make it null and void. Srry. I give u a thumbs up... even tho its down.

  • Les hates it as Primus' slogan, thats why he wanted to drop it, why do people continue to say it... If the frontman of the band doesnt want it to be his bands slogan i dont know why you say it.

  • i love how he just screams then starts

    haha its classic

  • omg,amazing fast,,,

  • PRIMUS SUCK!!!!!

    LES FTW

  • whoever thumbed down this is retarted because if they were a true primus fan they would know that saying "Primus sucks" means that youre a fan! Anyone that didn't know that is not a fan of Primus.

  • It's not anymore their slogan.

  • Les Claypool is in human he is so damn good

  • the rainbow bass if soooo fuckin sweet

  • it's pretty heavy!

  • thats what she said

  • HAH!

  • it was like thunder

  • Les claypool es el Jimmy hendrix del bajo!

  • @viciostereo Ese es Geddy lee

  • that's fucking amazing! les claypool is my idol!

  • Finally a good 6 string bass. And people don't believe me when I say good people use 6 strings. Les Claypool is damn good.

  • Depends on what you want to do. You don't use 6 strings when you really want to be funky. As you can see here Les does Jazz notes.

  • prove it

  • You're a fucking idiot. The number of strings on a bass does not dictate whether you can be "funky" or not. A perfect example of this is with Les Claypool. Not many people are going to try to argue when someone says he's a funky bassist with his 6 string. Now search for some songs played by him on his whamola (one string fretless bass) and tell me it isn't funky.

You obviously don't play an instrument.

  • amen, i think les can be funky w a bucket and a stick lol

  • Jaco Pastorius, Marcus Miller, Vic Wooten, Stanley Clarke.. many other players.. all of them 4-string.. your opinion is pointless

  • You obviously misunderstood my statement (it wasn't an opinion). I was saying that I always tell people that there are some good bassists who use 6 string basses, but everyone says no.

  • aah.. ok

  • One intense mini solo.

  • les claypool is a god

  • Its six strings

  • 8 strings?

  • lol no, its a 6 string, named "the rainbow bass". fucking godlike bass with the best player there is for it :)

  • no doubt. wats that beautiful 4 string he plays?

  • That is the original rainbow bass. It was rebuilt because it had weight distiburtion issues. HE has sawed down on of the horns on it to balance the weight

  • No, the Rainbow bass had the weight issues. Carl cut the horn off right before the Jerry video was recorded; and rebuilt it after.

  • Ok cool then the site i read the info from wasn't clear about which one was rebuilt. But the 4 string is a rainbow

  • No... the rainbow bass is the fretless 4 strings. The other ones do not have names.

  • The Rainbow bass is the fretless 6 string, as seen in this video.

  • no the rainbow bass is a 6 string fretless, the four string has no official name, u can tell aside from the fact the rainbow has 6 strings, because the four string has a kahler tremolo bridge.

The 4 stringbass does look alot like the rainbow bass, but as said above does not have a name.

dont bother argueing, look on carl thompson's website for gods sake.

  • yea how much does it cost? $15,000?

  • Its one of a kind, and Carl refuses to make copies of basses he has already done.

But judging by his prices, I would say somewhere between $10,000 and $12,000

  • judging by how much wood is on the Rainbow, i guess Carl's made only 10

  • The Rainbow gives me wood too.

  • The Rainbow, takes me to a happy place

  • How could it not?

  • I don't know.

  • Rainbow Bass costed 10.000 it's on Carl website. Great bass by the way.

  • Get The fancy bands dvd, its sooo good

  • You spelt legend wrong, but yes your right.

  • Im sorry but this is Les Claypool and his Fancy band .He has not played with Frog Brigade in a long while now.

  • what is this song????

    please....

  • d's diner by the frog brigade. as stated in the description of the video and as sung during it..

  • i LOVE that fucking pose at 0:05.

  • Yeah, it pretty much screams "I kick ass at bass, and you better recognize."

  • the effect is called an Envelope Filter

  • what the fuck effect is that... that cannot be wah.

  • larry graham is the king of slap bass funk not claypool, dont forget louis johnson and stanley clark

  • well, Les Claypool can tap and using three finger technique, but ya, Larry Graham is crazy slapper ,he invented it afterall

  • Yeah, Larry Graham is the father of the ol' thump and pluck, and one of my biggest influences... But if he's the father, then Les Claypool is the prodigal son!!!

  • i love how they go from the growling funk sound right to the jazz. its so perfect

  • Holy fucking shit that man is a machine.

  • for fucks sake Les is an alien.

  • he never really stays in one band. its a buch of side groups really. he's mainly known for primus, although he's also in les claypools fearless flying frog brigade, colonal claypools bucket of bernie brains, and hes also done solo work as well

  • lets not forget Sausage!! Riddles are abound tonight is my personal favorite calypool album.

  • the band he's playing with is

colonnel claypool and his flying frog brigade

  • no its his fancy band, frog brigade hasnt toured in a few years

  • i saw the frog brigade a couple of years ago in boston!

  • what band is he in?

  • i think hes primus im not totally sure

  • yup he is

  • he is in primus but this is a flying frog brigade video, hes in several bands

  • Actually, it's not quite the Frog Brigade. He (or I should say the fans) call it the Fancy Band.

  • The Fancy Band and the Frog Brigade are two seperate bands all together actually. People mix them up together cause both bands play in a similar way.

  • primus is his most famus and talented bands in my opineun

  • he is good, i will say that. Alot better than me.

  • wait claypool = guns n rosees band right?

  • No.

  • halfcup of joe, ya i see wooten as a clean individual. but claypool?from what i hear, a shitload of lsd and mescaline. lol

  • I think the only difference between Wooten and Claypool is drugs. How much of what kind.

  • Different bassists are admired for different things,

Flea has alot of energy, his recorded basslines are pretty generic and weak I'd think, but he's definately a very talented bassist, his freestyle is great, I dont think anyone will ever match up to Claypool's creativity though, that said he's still not the best bassist, with all these different ears, wanting to hear different things its impossible to say theres a "best bassist"

    ...my favourite is claypool though!

  • I agree with with you, about most things you said only my favourite would have to be Victor Wooten. Les Claypool and The Flea are close behind though!!!

  • Flea played trumpet in school. His bass lines are actually trumpet parts if you pay attention. No disrespect to flea, but as far as technique, he is a little lacking.

  • Claypool has style.

  • les tore up summer camp

  • G3 is something i call overrating... they play good, not good, but i dislike it... they're just overrated, there are 100 other musicians better then them. Claypool is my hero!

  • dude he should be in G3

  • Neither Flea or Les is that great. There are a lot of talented bassists out there. Trevor Dunn has to be my favourite.

  • Trevor is in fact amazing, I love his work.

But I you have to give Les some credit man, he has to be the most creative bassist out there, he's definitely better than Flea, but I think he's in the same calibre as Dunn.

  • best bass on earth

  • yeah, rainbow is beautiful!

  • any chance the uploader is sharing their videos on the web? i'd like to be able to watch this on my ipod, claypool is the man

  • i noticed that about les when he plays in his band. the sound they give off comes mainly from les and barely from any of the other players which makes me wonder why theres even a guitar and drummer? and the chili peppers are far from a pop band. they created their own sound and stay true to themselves to this day. they are the last great band left who are so original.

  • actually flea can play the upright bass pretty well. can Les claypool do that? idk u tell me? id say Flea and Les r on the same level. ive seen in concert and in videos Flea play the same rythmic patterns like he is playing except a little faster and half the time not even look at the fretboard and at the same time jumping and rocking the fuck out at his concerts!and not to mention John Frusciante answering to what flea plays back!

  • Yea Les can play upright. check the vid for Mr. Krinkle.

  • sorry, fleas shit, well not shit, but les is better, lfea is only good as a band, but les can be up the all by himself and make it look and sound great

  • i do think he can also make it sound quite repulsive. but thats just my taste :P.

  • ive been to D's diner its awesome.

  • does anyone know if there are videos of Les playing with Belew and Carey. i've been dying to see.

  • UGH i love his rainbow bass so much

  • its a 42 and yeah its teh rainbow what confuses me is that the neck fucks up when u slap on fretless basses

  • Nope it sure doesn't I hve ben slapping on my fretless for 3 years with no sign of wear and I use round wounds

  • I don't like getting into the hole who is a better bass blah blah but Can flea or any other bass player that you can think of get around on a 36 inch scale FRETLESS 6 string Like Les ????

  • what do they say at the beginning?

  • (Band) Who wants to go to D's Diner? (audience) I do!!

(Band) Who wants to go down to D's? (audience) Me!!

  • great bassist, but can he contribute to like 7 platinum records, 8 modern rock hits and be doing it for 20+ years? I don't think so my friends.

  • he has been doing the same thing for over 20 years. Playin bass like god.

The first formation of Primate (early primus) is from 1983. Primus or less didn't get much notice on media. Only when they recorded Sailing The Seas. Tommy The Cat and Jerry Was A Race Car Driver are proofs. Yet, they kept themselves from over exposure, and look at red hot chilli peppers now... it's only another pop band...

  • Claypool rocks it. Check out my band videos they are Claypool like.

  • is it the "rainbow"?

    isn't it fretless??!slapping a fretless bass?

  • yah man, i have a 5 string westone fretless, and thats all i play it slap/pop/strum

  • What a load of bullshit.

    Gimme:

    - Larry Graham

    - Jaco Pastorious

    - Bootsy Collins

    - Louis Johnson

    - Victor Wooten

    That's the real thing.

  • You sir are full of shit

    claypool owns

  • dude claypool is fire, i rock out to all of your aforementioned above, but claypool is fun and weird and out there and has an edge that the jazzers do not

  • you know, i'm stick of you people,

can't admit this guys a greatsong writer and bassist,

    so you know, FUCK YOU!

  • dont forget about flea.

but dont diss les. man that guy has got SKILL

  • hey buddy, FUCK YOU!

  • Pizazz.

  • Snazzy.

  • Can barely hear what he's playing but I guess it's great.

  • Les is without flaw. How do you improve on perfection? You sell your soul to the devil, that's how. No one will ever come close to Les Claypool. It can't be argued so don't try. Les is the chosen.

  • hmm, how about vic wooten, louis johnson, stu hamm...?

  • that was cool as hell

les is my fav bass player

  • was that at the avalon hollywood, because he did the same thing there?

  • Wakarusa.

  • i wish it was longer but that was still awesome, thanks for uploading

  • http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FGv5ONuL-Cc very young talented person. Im so fucking proud - thats my brother.SO big hearth too music.

  • How many times have you posted that sentence intolerance??

  • The rainbow bass is with no doubt the coolest bass ive ever seen

  • If you think that's the coolest, check these out.

    www.ritter-basses.com

  • Ritter basses are sweet, but then you start to cry when you look into the price tag.

  • Jerze Drozd too.

  • Agreed

  • im pretty sure this is les's fancy band. i saw them play in san francisco a cpl weeks ago & it was pretty tyte.

  • D's diner is a Frog Brigade song.

  • i know, but they played a whole bunch of les's other stuff too. they played some frog brigade stuff, some holy mackeral stuff, & some of the stuff from his new album
