I've been playing organ since age 15....now 73. I left the manuals alone for 3 months and totally concentrated on pedals and the heel/toe method concentrating on making the pedals as smooth as a scale by hand on the keyboard. The only time pedals should be emphasized is to move the hymn/song faster for singing. It is used to lead the singing when some congregations aren't with you. But your pedals sure need concentration for awhile until you get the hand and foot techniques in synch.
@RAOJazz1 Thank you for your opinion. I have continued working on pedals and articulation since the posting of this video 2 years ago. I had only been playing a bit over a year when this was made. I had never touched an organ before that time although I've played piano since a child. The organist job fell in my lap very suddenly and I had only 6 weeks to "get with it" before I was playing most Sundays. I am currently working toward AGO certification with the help of an organ master.
Not to be critical, cause I think you have a lovely technique it is very baroque , however you could use a lot less motion in your pedaling if you would use the HEEL / TOE technique. With the heel/toe method you simply rock your foot back and forth between the sharps/flats and naturals. The right and left swing of the legs are then in a nearly straight line instead of back and forth. This allows much more precision pedaling and also allows pedal chords ( one foot two pedals).
@jdkeyes2000 I know you're right. I began playing 3 years ago and I am still taking lessons (off and on). My organ teacher has told me the same thing. I'm still working on it though and maybe can post another video in a few months that will hopefully show some improvement. Thanks for your comment.
I believe that wearing organ shoes should be entirely up to the organist. I have played with sock and shoes for years! I don't see the difference at all. Actually, I find that wearing shoes improved my playing and I have played for 21 years. I think you are doing a great job on the organ! It sounds like such a nice instrument! A little out of tune, but tis the season!

I really like that big pedal reed. It adds immeasurably to the final verse and its alternate harmonization.
