Legos might work as a proper building material if the blocks are made of an intrinsically stronger material, Carbon composites maybe, and the pegs are at least twice as long. The blocks will also need to be more like cells in a plant connected at all angles to adjacent blocks.

I figured out why it won't support weight. Its because its being designed by people with macs.  3D CAD apps have only recently been put on the mac and far less robust then on Linux and PC versions.

Why did they get so fixated on beams? If they'd built it using arches it would have been easier, and more suited to the material. Probably would have needed more blocks though, so perhaps that was it.
