Well thanks to whoever took the time and effort to put this together, so we can see Don playing the fiddle at the same time we hear him. He had such a four-square way of playing ANYTHING: Always perfect. I love this straight-ahead rendition of OJS...it's really perfect, including the synchopation and follow-on beats that are missing in many other renditions. Also Don's use of the light reverb making the sound so evocative of the distant train...just perfect, as usual.
I could listen to Don all day. Well, I guess I kinda do that anyway. I never get tired of hearing him sing and play. Wow what a talented man. I was reading the insert on his Anthology album and it says he was married and they had 2 children. I sure wish they would post something.
Beautifully done! :D Makes me want to holler! :D Note to cameraman: Don't close in on the fiddler! We can't see his other hand, rather a key part of fiddling.
He may not have cared for the fiddle, but he was a virtuoso at it and had been playing since a very young age. People who doubt that it is Don playing are wrong.
The audio is definitely Don Rich and the Buckaroos. The video was edited in from the video of Don Rich and the Buckaroos playing Cajun Fiddle. Look up Cajun Fiddle on YouTube and you'll see what I mean.
This performance is from Buck Owens ranch show that is available from Buck Owens web site at Buck Owens. There are three DVD'S you can buy with many great performances by Buck and Don and the Buckaroo's and special guest stars such as Wynn Stewart and others. I got to see Buck and the Buckaroos back in Minot ND in 1967 to a sellout crowd and he played for over two hours and the crowd was wild and did not want him to leave. Also went to see Buck at his Crystal Palace in Bakersfield. Vern from ND
I was a country music performer for over 50 years before retiring my group (Country Tradition) in 2004. Don Rich was one of the most talented musicians I've ever known. His talent was inborn. The whole Rich family was musically gifted. And yes, that was him playing Orange Blossom Special; and he could play anything else on the fiddle that was ever written. What a loss when he was taken from us at such an early age. RIP, my dear friend Don Rich.
@buryinman1 Yes you are so right I remeber him with Buck and yes I've watched him play every kind of instrument on the show and he was very talented and I think he was killed in a motorcyle accident. And I think while on the Hee Haw Show, maybe ...
Nice fiddlin' Don Rich!........This is the first COUNTRY band I've ever seen feature the instruments. In country, it's only about the singin'. I can't believe a country band actually doing an instrumental ! I guess they have some brains afterall!
I was in the Navy and in Viet Nam when Buck was really getting big in the 60's. I remember chipping paint on the weather decks when suddenly we would stop the hammers and start singing some of his songs. But not as good as Buck and Don !! LOL
If ever I need to put a smile on my face, this song will definitely be my first choice. I loved it as a child and still hold it dear to my heart - what an energetic, uplifting jingle.....
I met Buck and his Buckaroos about two weeks before Don died from Buck to his son to all the band members they were sweet, nice, and funny. Down to earth
Awesome! Yes it is footage of Don playing the Cajun Fiddle song set to Don's recording of the OBS, but good editing job. I love Don's facial expressions in the video. Two thumbs up!
Buck was never the same after Don died in the motorcycle accident, he took it hard.
That is definitely Don, albeit a studio recording matched to an a scene from the show where he is playing "Cajun Fiddle". Nice job and thanks, its nice to see the picture; you captured Don at his finest.
This is wonderful and superb fiddle playing and a absolutely fantastic rendition of the "Orange Blossom Special". It doesn't get much better than this!
Tres bon musicien dans orange blossum tres bon rythme bien soutenu par son orchestre excellent bien connue par les amateurs pour sa vitesse d'execution
@capitalismforever Bullshit! He played this regularly.. You obviously don't know much about the Buckaroo's. Don played this one regularly live. He kicked ass on the fiddle just as much as he did on the Fender Telecaster.
@rcflybry Hold up there partner such languish on here,,, you maybe don't remember that small children get on here and read and maybe you might wanna hold back alittle on the dirty talk my good friend. Thanx awhole bunch.....
The one and only Don Rich with the original Buckaroos. I saw them live in 1968 in Toronto. I thought I had died and went to Heaven. He always had that smile, he must have loved what he was doing.
Nudie also made suits for the Flying Burrito Brothers, Gram Parsons was iconic with cactuses and weed images. Sneaky Pete Kleinow' s had a pterodactyl on it.
This has been my favorite fiddle tune for many years and this is by far the best I've ever heard it done. Don Rich was a very talented guy, and a very nice looking guy, it's a shame he got killed. Thanks for posting!
